From WSFA 12 News Montgomery AL - Dec 17, 2007 - A Geneva County family speaks out about daughter's condition and leash laws - Barry and Sylvia Carver says their 9 yr old daughter, Mariah wasn't expected to live. Her major arteries were just a nick away from bleeding out. Nine surgeries later she is still clinging to life.
The Carvers live in Hartford Al and said that their daughter had walked across the street to look for a friend when 5 dogs attacked her. When two teenage boys found her, she was inches from death. It is believed the dogs had been biting her for nearly an hour. She is listed in fair condition now and is still having nightmares about the attack.
According to the Geneva County District Attorney's Office, the county does not currently have a leash law. The Carvers say as soon as Mariah is out of the hospital, they want stop until the law is changed. The Carvers are in good spirits after Mariah has completed her 9th surgery. The surgeons have successfully covered 90% of her wounds and she will soon start the process of physical therapy.
