A Yancey County man faces a felony cruelty to animals charge after shooting and killing his neighbor's pit bull near Burnsville. Ken James is scheduled to appear before a judge Tuesday after a grand jury indictment following the May shooting.
Hillary Hunter says James shot their dog on their property at the end of their driveway after claiming the dog attacked him and his wife. Hunter says the blood trail, photographs and other evidence show something different. She says the animal was a companion to her 2 daughters, who have been traumatized by the killing.
Ken James says the dog attacked him in May. He says it was the 5th attack by the nearly 3 year old pit bull. He says it also attacked his wife on multiple occasions. James says he was charged by the dog on the morning of the shooting and shot it on his property. Hunter says all she wants is justice for her dog Layla, who she says was killed purely because of it's breed.
This story brings to mind another story I posted on February 9, 2011, where a woman in Talladega Al was home alone and the neighbor's BULLMASTIFF pulled her small dog through her fence and was killing it. Her predicament was horrifying !!
