July 26, 1983 - Two Pit Bulldogs attacked and mauled an 11-year-old boy riding his bicycle. He suffered more than 100 bites from the neck down. JORGE CUARTAS remains in intensive care at American Hospital. Dr. Frank Ferrero, a cardiovascular surgeon, said,
"Our major problem is trying to save his foot......I don't think we'll succeed. His left foot is in severe jeopardy because he has lost a large amount of tissue, muscles, tendons and blood. Statistically speaking, he is probably out of danger as far as his life is concerned."
Jorge is receiving antibiotic treatments to fight infection and pressurized oxygen treatments to "help keep the foot alive," but Ferrero said the foot already is showing signs of gangrene from poor circulation.
Both dogs were finally captured late Monday night in a West Dade residential development.
