The old dog-bite prevention advice: stand still, don't make eye contact, don't yell or run, can work with a non-bully dog who doesn't want to fight. He wants you to leave so he lets you leave. But good bull dogs do want to maul and wrestle, tug and shred, break bones and rip tendons and veins. Pits experience the release of endorphins while mauling, so mauling feels right to most pits.

The new "TRY-NOT-TO-DIE" advice when pits are involved is to SCREAM LOUDLY...DO NOT STOP...PRAY...that a neighbor or passerby is brave and will come with a weapon to stop the attack. Try as long as you can to protect your throat and spine, your face and limbs, every part of your body! Remember: Good pits attack without reason, without warning. That's why essentially all USA dog fighters all choose pits! --by DEBBIE BELL

OR YOU CAN BUY A GUN AND LEARN HOW TO USE IT. HOW I WISH THAT PAMELA MARIA DEVITT IN LITTLEROCK CA HAD HAD A GUN. HEY, YOU KNOW WHAT. EVEN IF SHE HAD A GUN, I DON'T KNOW IF SHE COULD HAVE SHOT THAT MANY DOGS OFF OF HER AS THEY CIRCLED, KNOCKED HER DOWN, ATE HER ARM OFF, SCALPED HER, AND DRAGGED HER AROUND FOR 50 YARDS.

ROANOKE VA - PIT BULL ATTACKED MEG ROBERTS BELOVED DACHSHUND "SWEET PEA"- HEROS - STRANGERS CAME TO THEIR AID !!!

Mon- Nov 14, 2011 -  A woman says her dog was attacked by a pit bull in Roanoke.  Her dog is fighting to stay alive after being attacked by a pit bull.

“My dog was in the mouth of another dog and I grabbed the bigger dog's collar to try to get him away from my dog,” said Meg Roberts, the dog’s owner. “And at that moment her little head kind of swung up towards my face, and when that happened I knew that she was in a very tight grip.”

Meg Roberts says the attack happened in a busy area in the Grandin section of Roanoke.

Her 4-year-old dachshund named Sweet Pea, was rescued by strangers who came to Roberts' and the dog's rescue.

A stranger drove me to the emergency vet because I'd never been there before and she'd never met me,” Roberts said. “For these people to do these things for me and my dog, I’m so, I have so much gratitude to all of them .”

Sweet Pea will likely need more treatment and it's unclear how she'll fair. Roberts has filed charges against the owner of the pit bull.

She says she hopes this is a reminder for other dog owners to better understand what dogs are capable of and to be more responsible.

NEWS7 was not able to contact the owner of the pit bull.
