"THE PIT BULL HAD TO BE TRANQUILIZED BY ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS BEFORE IT COULD BE TRANSPORTED TO QUARANTINE."
Nov 5, 2011 - A young boy was attacked by an older relative’s pitbull and boxer, Topeka police confirmed early Saturday afternoon.
Officer Steve Thompson said the boy, thought to be between 5 and 8 years of age, was playing with the dogs in the backyard at 1809 S.W. 24th, a block west of Stout Elementary, when the dogs attacked the child at about 11:30 a.m.
“The adult owner intervened and the dogs attacked the adult owner,” Thompson said. He said the owner wasn’t transported to the hospital but the child was taken by AMR with minor injuries, “mostly bites and lacerations,” he said.
Thompson said the pitbull had to be tranquilized by animal control officers before it was transported to quarantine.
