July 28, 2011 - A 24-year-old man walking with his pregnant wife and 6-month-old son near Lake Como Park on Thursday afternoon drove off two pit bulls, stabbing one as it gripped his arm.
Gary Latimer had to get five stitches to close the wound in his arm, said his wife, Alisa Latimer.

ONE OF THE DOGS IS BELIEVED TO BE MIMI, A PIT BULL THAT WAS IN THE NEWS LAST YEAR WHEN A MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGE DECLARED HER DANGEROUS AFTER AN ATTACK ON AN 84-YEAR-OLD MAN.

Her owner, Steven Woods, complied with a court order that saved Mimi from being euthanized.
Animal control officers and police are investigating the attack on the Latimers, said Brandon Bennett, Fort Worth code compliance director. The dog that was stabbed was taken to an animal hospital, and the other dog was taken to the city animal shelter, Bennett said. Both will be observed for rabies, he said. Woods told officials that both dogs were his, Bennett said. "We believe that one of the dogs was Mimi," he said. Woods could not be reached to comment Thursday evening.

Alisa Latimer said she and her husband were walking toward a bus stop in the 5000 block of Wellesley Avenue about 5 p.m., pushing their son in his stroller, when the dogs ran toward them.
The male pit bull seemed to be the most aggressive, Latimer said. They began circling the couple and snapping at them while Gary Latimer reached for a knife from the bottom of the stroller, Latimer said.
"My husband told me to run, but I didn't want to run because I was pregnant, so I walked real fast going one way and he ran the other way," she said. Both dogs followed her husband, who turned toward the dogs and began swinging his knife wildly. The female retreated, Alisa Latimer said. But the male dog attacked and locked onto her husband's arm between the shoulder and the elbow.
The dog let go after being stabbed, and both animals ran away, Latimer said.

"I'm just glad I wasn't by myself," she said. Bennett said code compliance and police investigators will meet Friday and determine what the next steps in the investigation.

LIIPSTICK ON A PIG...IT'S STILL A PIG!
BOWS ON EARS OF PIT BULL...IT'S STILL A PIT BULL !
__________________________________________________

"IF THIS TURNS OUT TO BE MIMI AND IT TURNS OUT SHE WAS INVOLVED IN THE ATTACK, ,THIS COULD POTENTIALLY BE A FELONY " Bennett said. "But that does not matter. We will pursue all dog attacks to the fullest extent of the law." From April to June 2010, Woods was cited three times because of his dogs, the city said. In one case, a 64-year-old woman was attacked and seriously injured by four pit bulls.

After the attack on the 84-year-old man in July, Woods was brought to trial. The judge ruled Mimi dangerous. With help from a Hurst attorney, Woods quickly raised more than $17,000 through appeals on the Internet, claiming that the animal was a therapy dog helping Woods overcome injuries suffered in Iraq.  Later it was learned that Woods misrepresented his military record. The city received hundreds of e-mails and calls about the case.

MAYWOOD IL- WISCONSIN MAN CAUGHT IN STING-TRIED TO SELL PIT BULL FOR FIGHTING - ENDED UP IN COOK COUNTY JAIL- SEE THIS VIDEO PEOPLE !!!

UPDATE:  THIS LINK HAS A VIDEO:

(COMMENT: IT'S THE OWNERS EQUALLY AS IT IS THE DOGS....OH...HOW I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS DOG TURN ON THIS MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

July 29, 2011 -  Al “Boogie” Clemons, 54, of Racine, has been charged with one count of felony selling a dog for the purpose of fighting, according to the sheriff’s office. Clemons appeared in court Wednesday and was ordered held on $30,000.

In mid-July, the sheriff’s Animal Crimes Unit received confidential information that Clemons was trying to sell a 41-pound female pit bull for fighting, a release from the sheriff’s office said.
An undercover officer contacted Clemons and was told the dog had already won two fights, and had a bloodline of champions, the release said. Clemons described the dog’s fighting style as:

                            “face fighting”

meaning the animal attacks the head and face of her opponent to incapacitate it.
According to Clemons, the last fight the dog was in lasted 45 minutes, but she ultimately prevailed. Clemons and the undercover officer agreed to a price of $1,500 for the pit bull, with Clemons delivering the dog on July 26, the release said.

Clemons met the undercover officer at the Miller Meadows Forest Preserve in unincorporated Maywood while other officers watched from a surveillance van, according to the release.
Before the transaction was complete, Clemons attempted to show the undercover officer the dog’s fighting skills and aggressive nature by “rolling” her on a chain with another fighting dog present, the release said.

After several minutes, and before the fight could get violent, the undercover officer gave the signal, and officers arrested Clemons, the release said. The pit bull has been turned over to the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge.

STATEN ISLAND NY - COUPLE WAS IN COURT BECAUSE THEIR PIT BULL ATTACKED 2 WOMEN - NOW THEY ARE ACCUSED OF DEALING DRUGS OUT OF THEIR HOME IN BETWEEN COURT APPEARANCES

"CASH" THE PIT BULL  BIT 2 WOMEN IN MAY 2010

* May 24, 2010 - 1st VICTIM  BIT ON THE LEG RIPPING HER CALF TO THE BONE

* May 26, 2010- 2nd VICTIM-19-YEAR-OLD WOMAN WAS BITTEN IN THE GROIN BY CASH WHILE HE  WAS BEING WALKED ON A LEASH:

THE 19-YEAR-OLD HAD TO UNDERGO GENITAL
PLASTIC SURGERY AFTER THE ATTACK !!!!!!

IN EACH ATTACK THE PIT BULL WOULD NOT LET GO AND JOHN CHAN BANGED ITS HEAD IN A DOOR TO MAKE IT RELEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

July 27, 2011 - So much for throwing themselves on the mercy of the court. A Dongan Hills couple was hoping for leniency after their pit bull mauled two women and they subsequently pleaded guilty to a felony assault charge.

But those hopes went out the window following the couple’s latest charge: They were accused of dealing drugs out of their home, in between court appearances.

Elise Guzman, who’s 23 and seven months pregnant, was angling for a no-jail sentence after she and her boyfriend, John Chan, 22, pleaded guilty on July 22, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the case. The source said she was playing for sympathy in court due to her pregnancy.
Chan, meanwhile, would likely have gotten some jail time, but prosecutors say any sentencing recommendations are now out the window.

Police allege that Chan sold oxycodone, marijuana and cocaine to an undercover detective on four separate occasions this month, both before and after the day the duo pleaded guilty.
He allegedly made one of those sales inside their home on the 500 block of Buel Avenue, two of them just outside the home and a fourth at the corner of Hylan Boulevard and Norway Avenue.
That fourth sale is said to have occurred about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, and police arrived at the
couple’s doorstep about an hour later with a search warrant, court papers stated. Inside, detectives found more than 35 oxycodone pills and more than two ounces of marijuana.

Both Chan and Ms. Guzman had pleaded guilty to the top count against them in the pit bull case, second-degree assault, and were slated to be sentenced before state Supreme Court Justice Robert J. Collini on Sept. 14.

"We worked very hard to work out a plea in the Supreme Court case, and we intend on fighting these new charges aggressively, and hopefully we’ll be able to maintain the original plea," said their lawyer, Mario Gallucci.

The dog attacks happened in May 2010, when the couple’s 60-pound pit bull, Cash, who at the time was living with its owners on North Railroad Avenue, bit a 45-year-old woman’s leg, and two days later bit a 19-year-old woman in the groin.

Cash mauled the first woman on May 24, ripping her calf to the bone.
A law-enforcement source said Cash attacked after the vicitm and Ms. Guzman had argued. Ms. Guzman was restraining Cash during the argument, but when Ms. Guzman’s door swung open, Cash latched onto the woman’s leg and wouldn’t let go until Chan emerged from the shower and slammed the door on the dog’s head, the source said.

Two days later, Cash struck again. The dog lunged at a 19-year-old woman while Chan was walking him, bit her in the groin area and wouldn’t let go until Chan slammed his head into a door, authorities said. The woman had to undergo genital plastic surgery after the attack, according to law enforcement officials.

Police took Cash after that, and the dog went to an Animal Care and Control facility in Manhattan, where he bit three trainers on separate occasions, authorities said. The city Health Department euthanized the dog in July.

Chan is charged with four counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, five counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, two counts of fourth-degree criminal sale of marijuana, and a single count of fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, said Peter N. Spencer, a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.

Ms. Guzman faces a single count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, as well as a single count of fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
Both were arraigned yesterday before Judge Alan J. Meyer in Stapleton Criminal Court. Chan was ordered held on $100,000 bail, Ms. Guzman on $5,000. Their next court date is Tuesday.

NORTHERN IRELAND - DANGEROUS DOG OWNERS MAY BE JAILED-"COMMENCEMENT OF THESE PROVISIONS IS A MAJOR STEP IN MAKING HORRIFIC DOG ATTACKS A THING OF THE PAST"

"ANYONE THAT ALLOWS A DOG TO ATTACK, BE THAT ON A PERSON, LIVESTOCK, OR A PET ANIMAL CAN EXPECT TOUGH PENALTIES."

http://www.4ni.co.uk/northern_ireland_news.asp?id=129758

Dog owners are now being faced with tougher legislation aimed at better control of domestic pets.
Heavy jail sentences and fines have been included in the revision of the statute books and, for the first time, these will even include laws on dog attacks taking place:

      "ON OTHER DOMESTIC ANIMALS !!!!!!!!!!!!!"

They will also allow a dog warden to attach control conditions to the licence of any dog that breaches the Dogs Order as well as increasing the income to individual council dog services by increasing dog licence fees and allowing councils to retain any fees from increased penalties.

.....IN ADDITION IN APRIL 2012,  IT WILL INTRODUCE  OMPULSORY MICROCHIPPING  OF DOGS.........

The NI Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill MLA yesterday announced that the legislation would primarily tackle the problem of dangerous dogs: "The main provisions to deal with dangerous dogs in the new Dogs (Amendment) Act 2011 are now operational.

"The commencement of these provisions is a major step forward in dealing with the issue of dog attacks and aims to make such horrific attacks, the impact of which we know only too well, a thing of the past.

"My Department has issued guidance to councils to prepare them for enforcement of the new provisions. Anyone who flouts the law by setting, urging or allowing a dog to attack, be that on a person, livestock or pet animal, can expect tough penalties," the Sinn Fein Executive Minister said.

She added: "The remaining provisions of the Act which deal with the control conditions for problem dogs, dog licence fee and fixed penalty notices will come into operation on 3 October.

"The increase in the licence fees, enhanced powers for dog wardens and fixed penalties will take effect from that date. However, as agreed by the Assembly, the final provisions making the microchipping of dogs compulsory will not come into force until April 2012."

In conclusion the Minister said: "My predecessor Michelle Gildernew brought this Act through the Assembly and I am determined to ensure that this Act is fully enacted by April 2012.

"The Act will provide the most comprehensive powers in these islands to deal with the:

            ' scourge of uncontrolled dogs.'

It will allow enforcers to hold owners and keepers to account, especially where they have failed to exercise adequate control of their dogs," she concluded

Two Year's Jail
A commencement order in October will enact provisions concerning licence fees, fixed penalties and control conditions.

In summary, a conviction will allow for a maximum of six months imprisonment and/or a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum (level 5 on the standard scale currently £5,000)

On conviction on indictment (on trial by jury) this will be up to a maximum of two years imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.

The fines and penalties for attacks on livestock and certain other animals have increased from a fine not exceeding £500 to a fine not exceeding level 3 of the standard scale (currently £1,000).

The first commencement order activates sections in the 2011 Act for an exemption from licensing for all assistance dogs, clarification of the law on licensing, exemptions and destruction of dogs bred for fighting, an increase in the maximum penalty for setting a dog to attack a person, making it an offence for a dog to attack and injure another pet animal, extend dog wardens' powers to enter any land to prevent or stop a dog attacking another dog, changes to the Assembly's control over the Department's Order making powers plus minor consequential amendments and repeals.

Shepherd's delight
Farmers should be most impressed with the protection offered by the new legislation - but only as long as it is enforced.

Just last week, a Fermanagh farmer expressed his anger after five of his sheep were killed following an attack by dogs at the weekend.

The Impartial Reporter newspaper said that 17 sheep belonging to Raymond MacVitty, of Lankhill, Culkey were also injured in the attack, which occurred on land in the Bellanaleck area, which he rents.

Mr. MacVitty said he saw the four dogs involved in the attack and that one of them was shot before they fled.

But he was angry that after contacting the PSNI, "no police visited the farm" and he says there was "no dog warden available at the weekend to deal with the situation".

The Licensing Officer with Fermanagh District Council, Mr. Francie Gilleece said: "The owner of the dogs has been identified". He had spoken to the owner, who agreed to hand them over to be destroyed.

He stressed that dog owners should ensure that their dogs are kept under control at all times, with the new laws aiming to force them to provide adequate control.

PITTSYLVANIA CO VA - 2 LOOSE PIT BULLS KILLED MARK JOYNER'S BELOVED PET CAT "BONNIE BLUE" -THEN INSULT ADDED TO INJURY - HE WAS CITED AND ALSO LOST HIS JOB OVER IT !!!

"BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE"

July 28, 2011 - Recently the Star-Tribune featured a front-page story detailing the tragic killing of Mark Joyner's family pet cat, Bonnie Blue, by two pit bull dogs whose owner had let them run free and uncontrolled blocks away from their own home. Any such sudden loss of a much-beloved family pet will always cause grief and distress even among the most hardnosed of people.  But when a single person or even a couple have no children in the home, family pets take on an added role in that they often become the "children" of their owners emotionally.

The "parents" of such "children" view their pets with no less love and joy than they would of their own natural child. Thus, when an unnecessary death occurs, there is no less real or hurtful grief than with real children. As Joyner's next-door neighbor, I personally witnessed such love and devotion between Mark and his youngest "child," Bonnie. They played constantly in their backyard with no fear of danger until that fateful day when:

TWO CANINE KILLERS BRUTALLY ATTACKED, MUTILATED, AND MURDERED MARK'S PRECIOUS CHILD!!!!!!!!

But, perhaps, the real tragedy for Mark Joyner in this incident may lie in two back-to-back events that occurred after the Saturday evening attack by the PIT BULLS.

On the succeeding Monday, two days later, he was served with a summons to appear in court by the same Pittsylvania County animal control officer that investigated his cat's slaughter.

The summons was not to appear as a witness in the attack. Instead, he was cited for allowing his dead cat's rabies vaccination to run out a few months earlier. Wow! Talk about justice. Then, on Thursday, Joyner received word by phone from his employer that he was being fired for taking off work to attend Chatham Town Council's monthly meeting.

He had been employed as a security officer by his firm for two years and was posted at a contracted site in Danville. The obvious reason for his attendance at the meeting was to lead a large group of concerned citizens who had gathered there to ensure that the council would act on a leash law/animal control ordinance to prevent similar attacks on other pets, children, or people by uncontrolled dogs.

The firing occurred even though Joyner had contacted his immediate site supervisor by phone on the evening of the attack and two full days prior to his scheduled work day on Monday.
At this time he informed the supervisor about his cat's death by the two pit bulls and of his need to be off that Monday to appear at the once-a-month town council meeting.

At the time of his firing, Joyner had the most seniority of all of the employees at his site.
And, to top it all off, his branch manager informed Joyner that they would fight any attempt by him to seek unemployment compensation from the state of Virginia. Wow, what a great employer. Don't you just love'em?

If anyone needs a dedicated, hard-working employee, I know where you can find a good one

ENGLAND - GILL AND TONY BHARAKDHA OF SUFFOLK - BORDER COLLIE KILLED AND 4 SHEEP KILLED , MANY OTHER SHEEP INJURED BY PACK OF DOGS

editorial image

Friday 29 July 2011 - A COUPLE whose sheep were savaged by dogs have accused police of not taking the attack seriously.

Gill and Tony Bharakdha have written to Suffolk’s Chief Constable Simon Ash saying: “We feel our local police force has failed to give us the level of professional service which we have the right to expect.”

All but one of their 16 sheep, kept at their home in Westhorpe Road, Finningham, were injured in two attacks and four died. Though police responded when called after the second attack, on July 10, the couple said on Wednesday there had been no follow up.

Mrs Bharakdha said: “There are dangerous dogs in the village. Next time this could be someone’s pet dog or a child.”  Mrs Bharakdha keeps the sheep because she trains border collies for trials. In the first attack, on July 8, a 12-year-old called Sophie was so badly savaged she died.
Two days later, they found the horrific sight of half eaten sheep in the field and the flock huddled in fear in a river. Mrs Bharakdha said: “They had skin torn off their tails, legs, necks, and were covered in blood.”

The police and RSPCA attended, and Mrs Bharakdha said the RSPCA, vet and person who disposes of fallen stock said it was dogs. She said the policeman told her someone would call the following day with a crime number, but there has been no contact. A Suffolk Police spokesman said: “Following a number of inquiries, any animals responsible could not be identified. This incident has clearly caused a lot of distress to the sheep’s owners and we can assure them that we take reports of this nature very seriously.”

BAYOONE NJ- A PIT NUTTER'S PIT BULL ATTACKED HER OTHER PET DOG AND BITES 3 PEOPLE AND CAUSES 2 POLICEMAN TO POSSIBLY ACCIDENTALLY TRANQUILIZE THEMSELVES AND SHE SAYS SHE'S NOT IN DENIAL

dogmax1.JPG

AND SHE'S GOING TO BRING THAT PIT BULL BACK AROUND HER OTHER 2 PETS!!!

July 29, 2011 - Cindy Garrison,  44, and  two neighbors were bitten yesterday at around 6:20 p.m. by her dog near her home as they tried to break up a dog fight between two of her animals.  All three victims, whose injuries were reportedly not serious, were treated at Bayonne Medical Center and released, police said.

Cindy Garrison picked up Max, her 2-year-old, 55-pound pit bull, from City Hall yesterday afternoon. She is required to quarantine the dog for 10 days and have him tested for rabies at the beginning and end of that time, police said.

"I will leave the city and the county if I have to save the dog," she said. "I know there is a stigma with pit bulls that some dummies train them to attack, but I'm not one of them. Max is a good dog."

Garrison, who has owned the dog since he was 2 months old, said she has agreed to keep Max separated from her other dogs and take him out with a muzzle and short leash only so he can relieve himself during the quarantine period.

But she said she will go further than that, training the dog and keeping it muzzled permanently.

"I have a lot of work ahead of me. I'M NOT IN DENIAL OF WHAT HE DID," Garrison said. "I have to keep a muzzle on him when I go out. I have intense training for at least six months."

Garrison had not been given any citations as of today, but she said the Bayonne health inspector told her to expect tickets for not registering her dogs and letting go of the leash during the fight, she said.

Garrison said she was walking Max with Pebbles, a 20-pound Puggle, and Roxy, a 30-pound cocker spaniel-mix, on leashes when the two females began barking at a group of other dogs on the other side of the street. Max became agitated and bit Pebbles, she said.

When Garrison pulled Max off Pebbles, the pit bull bit Garrison in the leg and stomach, leaving a dark bruise on her belly and puncture wounds on the back of her leg, she said.

Garrison then let go of the pit bull's leash, and the dog started running around before her friend took the leash of the other two dogs and was then bitten by Max in the leg, arm, and chest, as she grabbed Max.

The friend then handed Max's leash to another neighbor, and the confused and fearful pit bull then bit him, she said. The man was bitten on the left calf, his left triceps, and his forearm, said Deputy Chief Ralph Scianni.

Police officers trapped Max with a pole-collar device, but:

" A TRANQUILIZER DART EXPLODED WHEN IT HIT THE DOG'S HIP BONE, SPRAYING FLUID INTO THE EYES OF ONE OFFICER AND IN THE MOUTH OF THE SECOND."

Both officers were treated at the Bayonne Medical Center and have returned to duty, Scianni said

So I went digging  on the internet for this -  "LAND SHARK ATTACK" - and I found this LAND SHARK ATTACK that took this child's arm off just like an  OCEAN SHARK  might have but it didn't make any of the news programs that I watch, and I watch them all !!!!!!!!

Wednesday, March 10, 2010 - Lithonia Ga - The 8-year-old girl mauled by two dogs - TWO DOGS IDENTIFIED BY THE OWNER ON THE VIDEO  AS A PIT BULL AND A PIT BULL MIX - on Tuesday remains in critical condition.  DeKalb Police said they had to pry the dogs off of Erin Ingraham before shooting one and capturing the other.  The child was playing in her own yard when the dogs attacked.  The call came in at 4:06 pm and it took a good 4 minutes for  a police sergeant  to arrive to free the child from the animals.  The sergeant had to forcibly remove the dogs from the child and then stand between them and the victim  as they continued to charge.  He then shot and killed the most aggressive PIT BULL.  The child was taken to  Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.    Her father reports that she has bites all over her body and especially on one arm.  She has undergone Plastic and Vascular Surgery through the night.     Neighbors say they have complained about the animals being:

TOO AGGRESSIVE IN THE PAST !!!  ONE NEIGHBOR SAID
THAT THE DOGS HAD MAULED A CAT AND HAD  ALSO
ATTACKED ANOTHER NEIGHBOR AND THAT WHEN
SHE HEARD ABOUT THE ATTACK SHE JUST KNEW IT WAS
   THESE TWO DOGS!!!

This link states that both arms of the child were badly injured and that she was still in intensive care on the following Sunday:

CROSBY TX - "IF WE CAN SAVE ONE CHILD -WIPE THEM OUT" SAYS MOM ABOUT PIT BULLS AFTER THE ATTACK ON HER 10-YEAR-OLD SON - HE HAD CHUNKS OF FLESH TORN OFF, ARM BROKEN, EAR HANGING - "LIKE A SHARK ATTACK" - HEROS -TWO VERY BRAVE MOMS SAVED HIM !!!!

UPDATE ON MAULING OF  10-YEAR-OLD BOY  - July 27, 2011 -  Mario Lopez, with his face and body stitched, scabbed and bandaged, seems older than his 10 years as he describes how 2 PIT BULL MIXES (Video on link below) attacked him on June 30 as he was walking his bicycle  and backed him into a fence  intent on killing him.  Grisly photos during weeks of surgeries and skin grafts show where bloody chunks of flesh were torn  from his arms and legs like a:

     "SHARK ATTACK !!!"

Mario is a big 10-year-old. He played defensive tackle in fourth grade football last year and seems built for it.  "He's big for his age, and he's pretty strong. That's what saved him," said his mom, DeAnn Lopez. "He would have been dead in another minute."

The dogs backed him through a ditch and into a fence, then tore into his calves until he fell. He picked up branches to beat back the pair while they snatched at his arms and torso, fracturing his right arm and taking a chunk of his bicep.  HIS RIGHT EAR WAS LEFT DANGLING,  saved later by a surgeon's stitching. The dogs' teeth ripped open the flesh on the right side of his chest. He ended up lying facedown on the ground being bitten and clawed:

"They were scratching me in the back, and one of them bit me on the shoulder," Mario said.

Two women in the neighborhood heard the clamor and ran in to help fight off the dogs, eventually chasing them away. Jodie Green, who was able to hold one of the dogs by its collar as Mario ran to safety, said the snarling assault lasted about five minutes. She agreed the boy would have been killed if the attack had continued much longer.

"It was horrific," Green said. "I was doing what I could to get the dogs off him, but it didn't feel like I could do anything fast enough."

The 37-year-old mother's voice cracked as she imagined her two daughters, 9 and 12, being attacked.
"I try not to think about it, but I can't convince myself that they would have survived what he went through," she said. "They just were not letting up at all."  She said the ferocity reminded her of "wild animals going after something on the Nature channel."

Mario's mother, who calls her son "Man," said he will recover. She is glad another child was not hurt or killed:

"I can't even imagine if any other kid would have been attacked; it would have been really bad," Lopez said.
Michael Hanes, 30, and Kimberly Sheppard, 28, live on property that backs up to the Lopez family's lot. They were shocked their dogs dug out from a new kennel and remain worried about the child's recovery, their attorney, Michael Turner, said.

The couple face up to 10 years in prison, accused of negligent failure to secure a dog resulting in an attack.

When the pair were arraigned, Assistant Harris County District Attorney Belinda Smith said the dogs had been in a fight with another dog three days before the attack. She said they had a history of getting out. The dogs' fates were sealed when Hanes and Sheppard decided not to ask officials to return their pets after a 10-day quarantine. It is little solace to Mario's family or to the neighbors who witnessed the attack. Mario said he will recover and put the assault in the past. In the hospital, he was plagued by nightmares, which have gone away.
His mother is less forgiving of dogs, especially pit bulls. Despite owning one that she says could not hurt anyone, DeAnn Lopez has begun to advocate for ending the breed.

"IF WE CAN SAVE ONE CHILD,  WIPE THEM OUT ," the mother said. "EVEN OURS."

PEKIN IL -COUPLE SAYS NEIGHBOR'S 3 LARGE DOGS GOT LOOSE AND BECAME AGGRESSIVE WITH VISITING FAMILY IN THEIR DRIVEWAY - HOW DO THEY EVER FEEL SAFE AGAIN/GET ALONG WITH THESE NEIGHBORS/ OR POSSIBLY SELL THEIR HOUSE?????

The 3  dogs- A PIT BULL,  A PIT BULL/LAB MIX, AND A GERMAN SHEPHERD -  found their way out of an attached garage and  reportedly snarled and sought to attack the Wilson’s aunt and uncle in their SUV parked in their driveway  on Sunday morning. A responding police officer shot one as it ran to attack him, sending a bullet through its leg which then splintered as it ricocheted on cement to cut another officer in his face.

The dogs were initially removed, then later returned to their owners. “It seems these animals have more rights than we do,” the Wilsons said.

"THEY DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO ATTACK OR EVEN UNREASONABLY THREATEN PEOPLE OR OTHER ANIMALS--- ON NEIGHBORING--- OR PUBLIC PROPERTY,"   said city and Tazewell County officials.

As for their owners, “There’s a lot of hoops they have to jump through,” and no small amount of expense to pay, if they wish to keep the dogs in light of the Sunday incident, said Bob Marshall, director of Tazewell County Animal Control.

“THE BOTTOM LINE IS WE HAVE TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC,” said Pekin Assistant City Attorney Sue Bosich.  Marshall said his department is expected to notify the city that the dogs  are designated as “vicious” under city codes:

A dog is vicious “when, unprovoked (it) inflicts bites or attacks a human being or other animal either on public or private property,” according to the codes. In a lesser degree, a dog is “dangerous” when, while unleashed and unmuzzled, it “behaves in such a manner that a reasonable person would believe (it) poses a serious and unjustified imminent threat” to a person’s safety or life outside of its owner’s property.

The three dogs’ owners will have 15 days to appeal Animal Control’s designation to the city. Its finding, after a hearing likely before Bosich, can be appealed to the circuit court. If those recourses fail, the owners must decide if their dogs are worth steep costs that include liability insurance against future attacks by the animals.

“It’s expensive, especially after the fact” of the designation, Marshall said. Bosich said the owners would also have to pay an annual $200 registration fee to the city for each designated dog and keep the dogs on short leashes and muzzles when they’re in public places. Even harsher restrictions are required for “vicious” dogs in their own backyards, including sturdy 6-foot fences, according to city codes.

“I’ve got nothing against” the neighbors, Wilson said. “I don’t want to cause trouble with them, but I don’t know what to do to keep my family safe.” If we decide to move, “Who’s going to buy a house next to vicious dogs?” Marshall said the dogs’ owners, identified as Deborah Brooks, 46, and her son Danny Joe Pherigo, 25, took them home from Animal Control’s Tremont-based headquarters in muzzles Sunday.

LAREDO TX -NEIGHBOR'S VICIOUS PIT BULL ATTACKS COUPLE

Wednesday, July 27, 2011 - LAREDO, TX.- On Monday morning, an aggressive dog attacked two people causing severe injuries to their hands, legs and face. Joe Baeza, a spokesman for the Police Department, said the attack occurred at 1:30 am, when a report was called in to the police station on the 3300 block of Lane, where a lot of screaming was heard.

When troopers arrived, they found a couple that was attacked by a fierce pit-bull, who had already caused injuries to different body parts. Some neighbors tried to help one of them and when they managed to separate the dog from the victims, an officer used this moment to shoot the dog.
It was the only way possible for the animal to stop attacking the victims, who were given medical attention for their injuries. The aggressive dog was alive and held by the staff of the animal control division of the Department of Health.

Baeza said the people targeted are neighbors of the dogs owner and it is investigated to determine whether there will be charges against him, if it is proven that the dog was loose.
The injured were transported by ambulance from the Fire Department at Laredo Medical Center with severe bites

FLINT MI -PIT BULL BITES 8-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN FACE

Slideshow

UPDATE:  7-27-2011 - A VIDEO has been added to this story that shows a very apologetic owner of the PIT BULL.  He states how surprized he is that his dog bit the child and how much he loved and cared for the:

RESCUED DOG HE ADOPTED SEVERAL YEARS AGO !!!!!!!

It appears that the owner wants the dog to be put down but there are issues with their Animal Control.

July 26, 2011 -A vicious dog attack in a Flint neighborhood sent an eight-year-old girl to the hospital Friday night, and the pit bull responsible for the attack has still not been removed from the home.
Denasia Bolds was outside playing with friends, when a neighbor's pit bull got out and latched onto her face.
Bolds' facial injuries required 70 stitches.
Her mother called Genesee County Animal Control. They told her the dog would be allowed to stay with the neighbor, but would now have to be kept in a kennel, a practice called 'quarantining the dog.'
"This happened Friday and now today is what Monday? They still won't pick the dog up. I've called several times. They talk to me like it doesn't even matter, that they'll get to me whenever they decide to. The dog sits in my backyard, my daughter sees it everyday," says Denasia's mother, Christina Dotson.
NBC25 attempted to contact Genesee County Animal Control, but their office had closed for the day

EIGHT MILE, MOBILE COUNTY AL - A PIT BULL NAMED "KILLER" ATTACKED A SHERIFF'S DEPUTY AS HE WAS SERVING 2 WARRANTS ON THE PIT'S OWNER

July 21, 2011  -  A Mobile County Sheriff's Deputy, Jason Blankenship,  was serving 2 warrants at a home on Mauvilla Drive West in Eight Mile on Thursday afternoon.  A man opened the door at the house and a  1-YR-OLD  PIT BULL  NAMED "KILLER"  ran out.  The Deputy was knocked off  the porch and the Pit Bull bit him on both arms, legs, and back.  The Deputy shot the animal 3 times.

The owner of the dog, Sean Hampton, says the deputy didn't have to shoot his dog....."The dog backed off and was a few feet from the deputy when he pulled his gun and fired."   He also said the person named in the papers didn't live at his address.

The deputy was treated at USA Medical Center where he received stitches for some of the wounds.   The dog was taken to a local vet but later died. Sean Hampton wants the County to pay for the vet bills.  Sam Cochran, Mobile County Sheriff says it remains to be seen whether the Deputy has suffered long-range injuries because he was knocked off the porch and some of the bite marks are deep, and,  if anything,  Hampton should pay the County for the Deputy's medical bills.  And.....

DEPUTIES WILL BE BACK AT HAMPTON'S ADDRESS SOON TO SERVE OUTSTANDING WARRANTS ON HIM...NOT RELATED TO THIS INCIDENT!!!

BERMUDA - ILLEGAL DOGS LINKED TO RISE IN ATTACKS - "WE BELIEVE 90 % OF ILLEGAL BREEDING OF RESTRICTED BREEDS IS BY PEOPLE ALREADY INVOLVED IN CRIMINAL ACTIVITY"

Animal wardens have also been involved in dealing with dog attacks where animals such as dogs, horses and goats have been the victims of breeds believed to be on the restricted list. *Photo supplied

Adults as well as children have been the victims of a recent rise in dog attacks in Bermuda by restricted breeds. Above, a man is treated for dog bites to his face. *Photo supplied
RESTRICTED BREEDS:  AKITA, AMERICAN BULLDOG, AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER, AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER, ARGENTINE MASTIFF, ARYAN MOLOSSUS, AUSTRALIAN DINGO, BOERBOEL, BRAZILIAN MASTIFF, BULLTERRIER AND MINIATURE BULL TERRIER, BULLMASTIFF, CANE CORSO, DANISH BROHOLMER,  DOGUE DE BORDEAUX,  ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER, JAPANESE TOSA, MASTIFF, NEOPOLITAN MASTIFF, PERRO DE PRESA CANARIO, PERRO DE PRESA MALLORQUIN, ROTTWEILER, TIBETAN MASTIFF, WOLF AND WOLF HYBRID, ALL TYPES OF CROSS BREEDS OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED DOGS

WEDNESDAY, JULY 20: The underground breeding of illegal dogs is fuelling a dramatic rise in the number of serious dog attacks.

The warning comes as the Department of Environmental Protection announced a dog amnesty last week to tackle the growing problem.

Animal wardens say they have dealt with a string of attacks where humans as well as animals have been savaged by restricted dogs.

They believe there are hundreds of restricted dogs across the island and have dealt with attempts to smuggle banned breeds into Bermuda under the pretense they were different breeds of dog

Head animal warden Jeffrey Benevides told the Bermuda Sun: “Often these dogs are taken from their mothers at a very young age — says just three or four weeks — and do not have a chance to be socialized properly.

“They are being kept in hiding and being walked at 12am to avoid detection. I have heard of dogs changing hands and being sold for thousands of dollars. We believe ninety per cent of the illegal breeding of restricted breeds involves people who are already involved in criminal activity. There is a definite link between the two activities.”

The amnesty, which runs from July 18 to August 31, gives owners of restricted breeds the chance to licence their dogs under the proviso they are spayed and neutered so they can not reproduce. After the end of the amnesty unlicensed dogs could be seized and destroyed while their owners could be prosecuted.

Mr Benevides said: “People stand to either have their dogs seized or destroyed if they do not abide by these rules. “We do not enjoy taking dogs from people’s homes but this is what will happen.”

Director of Environmental Protection Dr. Frederick Ming told the Bermuda Sun the purpose of the amnesty.  He said: “We are not saying that all restricted breeds in Bermuda are dangerous.  But we can not ignore the connection between restricted breeds and the rise in dog attacks.  It is a trend we are not happy about. Something has happened out there and we are trying to do something about it. There is an underground market in the breeding and trading of certain restricted breeds."

“Dogs are being illegally bought and sold:

"THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WE HAVE IS WITH THE PIT BULL"

Dr Ming said the amnesty also aimed to encourage dog owners with pets not in the restricted category to ensure they were properly licensed. He revealed that there were around 1,000 unlicensed dogs in Bermuda at present. He added: “Whether it is a small family dog or a restricted breed any dog that we come across that is no licensed can be seized and the owner can be prosecuted. “If it is a restricted dog the probability of it being put down is great.

“We feel there may be as many as 1,000 unlicensed dogs in Bermuda which represents a significant income to government. “The amnesty is a way of getting this situation under control. It is also the opportunity for good dog owners to avoid a lot of expense.”

Members of the public with questions or concerns regarding the amnesty can contact the Department of Environmental Protection on 236-4201.

PUERTO RICO - PIT BULL: ILLEGAL - AND COCKFIGHTING: LEGAL

http://blog.dogsbite.org/2009/02/ecuador-joins-world-trend-bans-pit.html

In 1998, a bill (HB585) was signed by the Governor of Puerto Rico, which bans introduction, importation, possession, acquisition, breeding, sale, and transfer of Pitbull Terriers or hybrids resulting from a breed of these dogs or with dogs from other races, are all prohibited. The banned race of canine is defined as “a race of bull terriers that include the Stafforshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers and combinations of these and other terrier races.”

The bill also states the following:
“Any person, as of the date of enactment of this Act, who owns any of the canines mentioned, shall register said dog or dogs in a registry intended for those purposes, at the Agriculture Department. The registration will take place within the eight (8) months following the approval of this law. After that grace period has expired, the opportunity to register them will cease and the Registry will be closed. The registration application must contain the name, address, and telephone numbers of the owner, the location where the animal will be kept, and all the information needed to identify the dog. Said application must be accompanied by a registration fee of twenty-five (25.00) dollars. Every dog so registered will be assigned a registration number which will be engraved on a small metal plate to be affixed to said dog’s collar. The owner of the dog will receive, in addition to the duly engraved plaque with the registration number, a certificate of registration as evidence of the dog having been duly registered with the Department of Agriculture. In the case of a female, she is to be sterilized, tattooed with an indelible mark indicating this surgical procedure has been performed, and the corroborative document signed by a veterinarian will be required by the department of agriculture prior to her registration. Any dog that fails to carry a plaque indicating its registration number and whose owner fails to produce the registration certificate after the eight (9) month grace period shall be immediately confiscated by the pertinent authorities.”

Pitbulls were officially banned from Puerto Rico, when the bill was passed in 1998. There was a 8-month window where they allowed you to register your Pitbull with the Department of Agriculture. You can no longer register a Pitbull or bull terriers and they are illegal to possess if they are not already registered. If you are caught with an unregistered Pitbull or bull terrier, the dog will be confiscated and you will be charged with a misdemeanor.

Regional variations
Spurs taped and tied onto legs
In some regional variations, the birds are equipped with either metal spurs (called gaffs) or knives, tied to the leg in the area where the bird's natural spur has been partially removed. A cockspur is a bracelet (often made of leather) with a curved, sharp spike which is attached to the leg of the bird. The spikes typically range in length from "short spurs" of just over an inch to long spurs almost two and a half inches long. In the highest levels of seventeenth century English cockfighting, the spikes were made of silver. Ironically, the sharp spurs have been known to injure or even kill the bird handlers. [6][7] In the naked heel variation, the bird's natural spurs are left intact and sharpened: fighting is done without gaffs or taping, particularly in India (especially in Tamil Nadu) There it is mostly fought naked heel and either three rounds of twenty minutes with a gap of again twenty minutes or four rounds of fifteen minutes each and a gap of fifteen minutes between them.[8]
Nicaragua, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Philippines, Peru, Panama, Puerto Rico, Canary Islands, and Guam have arenas with seats or bleachers for spectators surrounding the ring. In many countries, the spectacle of cockfighting is as popular as baseball and American football are in the United States.[

TRINIDAD - MOTHER OF THREE - DENISE RACKAL-MAULED TO DEATH BY 5 PIT BULLS- PASTOR SAYS: JUSTICE NOT SERVED

SAD: May Gopie, sister-in-law of Denise Rackal (INSET) in a sombre mood yesterday as she spoke about Rackal who was mauled to death on Monday by a pac...

May 10, 2011 -Chaguanas Trinidad -  DENISE RACKAL, age 46, was walking on her way to work May 9, 2011, when she was attacked and mauled to death by 5 Pit Bulls that had escaped from the home of their owner ---a police corporal.  Rackal, who worked as a security guard, was walking along the road when she was first attacked by a white Pit Bull that grabbed onto her neck.  Four other Pit Bulls joined in the deadly attack.  She died of multiple bites and rip wounds and as she bled to death,  the dogs continued to bite her.  Investigators were told by residents that these Pit Bulls were responsible for the deaths of 15 dogs last October and that this was the 3rd attack on humans.

Officers were seen later measuring the height of the wall of the property where the Pit Bulls lived.  It is reported that 3 residents, including Police Constable Ryan Isaac of the Port-of-Spain division, witnessed the attack.  The Policeman who owns the Pit Bulls was not at home but  his 2 sons were at home and they ran out and tried to get the attention of the dogs away from the woman.  It was said that the white Pit Bull pushed open the gate and ran out and the attack happened very quickly.  The boys eventually were able to get the dogs back into the yard  and called them into the house after they had killed Rackal.  The Mother of Three Children was left alone on the road, blood streaming from her body.

Denise Rackal's husband, Lionel, was inconsolable and did not know how he would tell their daughter.  Angry residents gathered outside the home of the owner of the Pitbulls shouting.  One woman told investigators that her son was attacked by the same dogs 2 years ago and she made a report to the police station and nothing was done.  Hours after the attack, the Pit Bulls were seized from the house.

May 13, 2011 - The family of Denise Rackal was overcome with grief  at the funeral service at the Open Bible Church yesterday.  Her neice, Anyse Calder, said her aunt would always be remembered for her kindness and her devotion to her three children.  Pastor Lutchman Singh spoke with the media after the funeral service and said, "justice had not been served."  He called on law makers to bring the legislation into effect so that the woman's death would have not been in vain:

"HER DEATH WAS HORRIFIC.  WITHOUT SUCH LAWS,  I AM NOT SAFE, YOU ARE NOT SAFE,  NONE OF US ARE SAFE."

SPANISH TOWN JAMAICA- PIT BULL MAULS TO DEATH A 62-YEAR-OLD WOMAN -VALERIE STEPHENSON -FONDLY CALLED "MAMMA"

UPDATE:  http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20110724/lead/lead4.html

Public Health Officials are ordering Corporate area residents to reduce the number of animals at their houses or face the court.  Residents of many communities not only are faced with the health risks posed by their neighbors dogs, but they are just an attack away from death as PIT BULLS and other dogs become popular pets and mongrels roam the streets:

IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR THE COMMUNITY OF CLINTON WAS THE SCENE OF GRIEF AFTER A 3-YEAR-OLD BOY WAS KILLED BY A PACK OF 6 DOGS.

Many nuisance cases lodged with the department involve Rottweiler and Pit Bull breed strains of dogs.  However, mongrels are a nuisance.  More oversight is needed in the importation and breeding of the Pit Bull and other such strains of dogs because the current situation is creating a hazard to health and life.

July 20, 2011 -  The Spanish Town Police, who are investigating this death by PIT BULL have described the incident as:

    "DEATH BY MISADVENTURE"   ????????

The St. Catherine North Police were up last night still trying to locate the owner of a PIT BULL that mauled to death a 62-year-old woman in March Pen, Spanish Town on Monday evening, July 18.  The owner of the animal reportedly fled the area following the attack on Valerie Stephenson:

FONDLY CALLED "MAMMA" BY HER NEIGHBOURS

The woman was attacked by the PIT BULL around 7:00 pm following a visit to a relative's home. Attempts were said to have been made by residents to rescue the elderly woman from the jaws of the animal but all that proved futile.  Stephenson eventually succumbed to:

BITES SHE RECEIVED TO HER THROAT AND CHEST.

The brown and white PIT BULL was later found lying on his right side with a gunshot wound to the body.  It was not clear who killed it.  The police have, in the meantime, warned owners of dogs to ensure the animals are properly secured.

HILLSBORO COUNTY FL - 91-YEAR-OLD WOMAN IN RIVERVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD ATTACKED BY A PIT BULL WHILE WALKING HER PET POODLE "MUFFIN"

Dog attacks 91-year-old and her pet dog, Muffin

UPDATE:  RIVERVIEW, Fla. - In 91 years of life, Marion Sturm has never been more terrified.
"That dog would have killed her," Marion said. "He was just so vicious."

Both Marion and her dog Muffin now have wounds that show how bad the attack was. It happened in Marion's Riverview neighborhood Thursday morning. She was walking her dog along their street, like she does every day, when a large white dog came charging at them.

Marion said the dog was a white pit bull or pit bull mix with a black leather collar.

"It jumped on her and started chewing her neck and her legs and she was crying and barking," Marion said. "I fell down on the ground and that's when he decided to get me and he really got my leg."

Marion said that struggle continued, despite her best efforts to pry the animal off her and her pet.

"I tried pushing him away, pulling his ears, but he wasn't going to let go...he wanted to kill her," Marion said.

Neighbors eventually heard the grandmother's cries for help and came to her aid. The dog ran off after they were able to pull it away from Marion.

Both Marion and Muffin are expected to recover from their injuries, but if the dog that attacked them isn't found, Marion will have to endure a series of painful rabies shots. Animal Control officers are now searching for the dog.

"I never saw anything like that, I was so frightened," Marion said. "I'm hoping we can find him."

Pit bull websites explain how you can own two or more dog-aggressive dogs by "crate and rotate" meaning you only have one dog out at a time and keep them separate at all times. Wouldn't it make more sense to stop breeding this instinct into dogs?
If it is illegal for a human to attack my dog and me and attempt to stab my dog to death, why is it legal for a human to intentionally acquire a dog that was intentionally created to do essentially that same thing?
Free, mandatory spay/neuter/microchipping for all pit bulls and any other dog-aggressive dogs. Let the “experts” at dog aggression and maiming gradually become extinct. Everyone wins, including all dogs themselves.
Debbie Bell
Essentially every pit bull website states that unprovoked, unpredictable dog aggression (DA) is a common pit bull breed trait/instinct. INSTINCT MEANS NO TRAINING NEEDED. Even with early socialization some dogs will mature to have this instinct. Tragically, many pit bulls are instinctively good at maiming/killing other dogs, and, if permitted, many "improve" their skills.

Essentially no pit bull breeder website states "we only breed dog-friendly dogs." The opposite is often true: pit bulls are frequently called the "gladiator" and the "warrior" of the dog world. "My pit bull might not start a fight, but she will finish it," is common phrase. "Dog aggression is what makes a pit a pit," another frequent comment.

You would hope that those who love dogs would rather say, "my dog has excellent social skills; she seems to always know how to get along with other dogs she meets, and fighting doesn't occur to her. If she should accidentally escape, I believe she will be social and friendly with every dog she might see."

Why would anyone who cares about dogs and their welfare want the DA instinct to continue to be bred into dogs? Of all traits, dog lovers should want DA, as a predictable trait, to end.

Now that dog fighting is illegal in the US, the skills of attacking, maiming, killing dogs are obsolete.
Pit bull websites explain that it is wise to own and know how to use a break stick, with which to pry open the pit bull's mouth should it clamp his jaws onto another dog.

"...pit bull or pit bull mix." Gee, a pit bull... imagine that.

When are people going to wake up and demand a ban on these killers?
George Gould
When are people going to wake up and demand the extermination of the human garbage who trained these dogs to become killers?
Max Clayton
Yee, there are idiot dog owners out there. Although I've never heard of any idiot dog owner successfully training a Poodle, Cocker Spaniel, or Irish Setter to be a killer, have you? Fact is, pits were bred for fighting... and now it is instinctive to them.

FORT COLLINS CO - PITBULL/AMERICAN BULL/ OR JUST A GRIPPING DOG ATTACKS WOMAN SITTING ON BACK PATIO OF HER TOWNHOME

July 21, 2011 - Nicole Guli, 24, said she was sitting outside on her townhome's back patio after work Monday evening, July 18, when the dog got loose from where it was tied up a few yards away. She said it first began biting at her shirt:

SO SHE STOOD UP TO GET AWAY AND THAT'S WHEN IT ATTACKED HER !!!  IT BIT STRAIGHT THROUGH ....HER HAND....

"I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO LOSE MY ARM !!!!!!!"  AND HER FOOT MAY ALSO BE BROKEN, IT'S SO SWOLLEN....THEY CAN'T TELL RIGHT NOW.......

Nicole Guli,  an advertising account executive for the Coloradoan Media Group, has 2 sons, age 2 and 3.  says she is so glad her children were not at home at the time of the attack.

In licensing records, the dog, Durdy, is listed as a PIT BULL.  But animal control officers say they believe it may actually be an AMERICAN BULLDOG MIX !!!  The 5-year-old "gripping dog" has been taken into custody and quarantined by animal control officers with the Larimer Humane Society because:

    IT LACKED A VALID LICENSE.

The dog had previously been licensed, but because it was not curently licensed, there was no updated rabies vaccination certificate on file. Animal Control Officer Joe Quinn said he is still tryng to track down medical records and witnesses before making a decision about ticketing Durdy's owner and the dog's fate.

ADA OKLAHOMA - 6 DOGS, INCLUDING A PIT BULL MIX - ATTACKS AND CHASES A JOGGER FOR NEARLY AN HOUR - HERO -JENNIFER SWEET

Good Samaritan
JENNIFER SWEET WAS PRESENTED WITH A CITIZENSHIP AWARD BY POLICE CHIEF JASON TEEL ON FRIDAY FOR HELPING TO SAVE FELLOW STONEWALL RESIDENT DANIEL MURRAY DURING A DOG ATTACK

July 17, 2011 - A Stonewall Resident, Daniel Murray, is lucky to be alive and he credits Jennifer Sweet for saving his life !!!  Sweet, who drives her husband to work every morning with her toddler son in the back seat,  did not realize what she was driving into on this particular morning.

Murray, 47, began running several years ago after he lost his son in an accident.  He runs marathons as a hobby and trains every morning to avoid the heat. He was running west on Jesse Road - 4 miles out and 4 miles back was his plan......As he neared Stonewall at about mile 7 1/2miles......these dogs ranging in size from medium to large attacked him at his legs:

HE KNEW IF HE WAS KNOCKED DOWN HE WOULD BE KILLED...."I HAVE TO STAND AND FIGHT THESE DOGS OFF"...HE CARRIED A POCKET KNIFE AND BEGAN USING IT.

but he wasn't having much luck because when one would come at him, he'd swing, and then the others would circle around behind him.  He began running down the highway toward Stonewall with the dogs pursuing him....making charges on him 5 to 6 times.  He was getting tired from swinging the knife all around him like a windmill.....He managed to cut some of them, but not enough to make them stop.....

"THEY WERE LIKE DEVIL DOGS...THEY WERE POSSESSED !!!!!!  BESIDES THEM BITING HIM, THE LOUD BARKING AND GROWLING MADE THE SITUATION MORE TENSE."

This is when he saw Jennifer Sweet pulling up to him.  She states that he would try to run away a little bit, but then there would be a dog right on him. He would try to back up, and there would be a dog right in back of him!..."No matter which way he went they were there."  She knew if she got out, she could become a victim too.  She drove her car right  up beside him and tried honking the horn to scare them away, but that didn't work.

Murray describes how he was covered in sweat and blood and didn't want to just jump in her car.  She  called  911.  Exhausted, finally Murray asked if he could get on the hood of her car. When he did that, she was able to drive him away......BUT....

THE DAMN DOGS KEPT FOLLOWING THEM FOR  4  BLOCKS !!!!!!!!

He received treatment at the hospital and the dogs were captured by Stonewall Police and are being held in quarantine.  After that ....THEY WILL BE DESTROYED !!!!!!!!

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY- WOODBRIDGE VA - A LOOSE PIT BULL KILLS A CAT AND THREATENS OTHERS- ANIMAL LOVER FIRES HIS SHOTGUN AT THE PIT !!!

WHO WOULD WANT THIS CHASING ANIMALS AROUND IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD?
PEOPLE READ THE COMMENT AT THE BOTTOM !!! ALSO, WATCH THE VIDEO...CHECK OUT THE HEIGHT OF THE FENCE....THIS IS A PIT BULL MAULING WAITING TO HAPPEN !!!

July 19, 2011 - 59-year-old Paul Ovellette is an animal lover and regularly feeds cats  in the neighborhood.  He ran into a problem when a PIT BULL named Tiny ran loose through the streets and killed one of the cats.  When it went for some kittens, Ovellette went for his shotgun. The PIT BULL then came at Mr. Ovelette and that is when he fired the gun intentionally missing the dog:

"THIS DOG HAD BEEN ATTACKING ANIMALS AND I WAS AFRAID IT WAS GOING TO ATTACK KIDS," HE SAID.  "IF I SEE IT GO FOR ANOTHER ONE OF MY BELOVED CATS, OR A CHILD, I WILL SHOOT AGAIN, THIS TIME TO KILL. THAT DOG IS DANGEROUS."

Some neighbors say they support his actions.  Other neighbors have seen the PIT BULL racing through the neighborhood off leash.  Neighbor Jessica Clarke does not approve of shooting a gun, still she says the teenager who owns the PIT BULL TINY  lets the dog run off leash so it's not safe.  A reporter found the owner of the Pit Bull and he showed him the uninjured Tiny in a fenced enclosure.

Good for him. There have been 2 separate pitt bull attacks recently (May 27 and June 24) in Fairfax City and no one seems to be able to stop these dogs. These were unprovoked attacks and I believe only warnings were given. I have not heard of another breed of dog attacking people or other dogs. They should be outlawed
