ROBBINSVILLE NC - GRANDMOTHER CHARGED TRIED AND CONVICTED IN PIT BULL ATTACK ON HER 2-YEAR-OLD GRANDSON - CHILD'S MOTHER TO GO ON TRIAL NEXT
Mon - Jan 23, 2012 - A Robbinsville Grandmother has been sentenced to at least 2 years and 1 month in jail for the 2010 dog attack that left her grandson in critical condition. 2-year-old MATHYIS SMITH WAS MAULED BY THE FAMILY'S PIT BULLS while in the care of SUSIE ANDERSON AND THE CHILD'S MOTHER VANESSA SMITH.
Both women were charged with felony child abuse. Smith will go on trial in March. The little boy is now in the care of DSS.
ORIGINAL STORY: Nov 8, 2010 - Asheville Citizen-Times - A North Carolina grandmother faces felony child abuse charge, after her 6 PIT BULLS mauled her 2-year-old grandson. Susie Anderson was charged in the case, after her grandson, Mathyis Smith, went to Mission Hospital with life-threatening injuries on Nov. 6. The Graham County Sheriff's Office says the boy was bitten on his neck, stomach, and legs. The toddler was playing in the yard where several of the PIT BULLS were running free. One of the dogs was killed by a deputy on the scene.
