HOLBROOK NY - A PIT BULL ATTACKED A WOMAN AS SHE WAS GOING NEXT DOOR TO PICK UP HER DAUGHTER FROM A NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE
Friday - June 1, 2012 - Valerie DeMasi says the attack by the PIT BULL was unbelievably fast. She was attacked by the dog Tuesday night as she went to pick up her 9-year-old daughter from a neighbor's home on Portside drive.
DeMasi says she had never been bitten by a dog before and says, "IT WAS THE MOST TERRIFYING THING IN MY LIFE !!!" It ripped a gash in her right foot that needed 15 stsitches to clese and she also has bite marks on her hip and shoulder.
Her neighbor said that he heard screaming and barking and he looked out the front window and saw Valerie DeMasi on the ground with something on top of her. He pulled the dog off her and waved a piece of four-by-four at it. It ran away but then ran back toward DeMasi. He quickly picked up DeMasi and brought her indoors and made sure his front and back doors were locked and called 911.
Both Valerie DeMasi and the neighbor said they heard a young man calling the dog by the name of "NICK". Also a jogger said she remembers a young man calling for a dog named Nick as she ran through the neighborhood streets.
DEMASI SAYS SHE HASN'T THOUGHT ABOUT WHETHER TO SEEK CIVIL ACTION IF THE DOG IS FOUND OR WHETHER TO FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST THE ANIMAL IN TOWN COURT. SHE SAYS HER FIRST CONCERN IS TO FIND THIS DOG BECAUSE THIS NEIGHBORHOOD IS LOADED WITH CHILDREN. IN THE MEANTIME, SHE HAS UNDERGONE A SECOND SERIES OF RABIES SHOTS.
