SANTA ROSA CA - PIT BULL OWNER TO STAND TRIAL FOR ATTACK ON 90-YEAR-OLD MAN AND HIS DOG

SONOMA COUNTY JUDGE  GARY MEDVIGY:  "THIS IS A DANGEROUS BREED.  SOMEONE HANDLING A DANGEROUS ANIMAL NEEDS TO HAVE ALL HIS WITS ABOUT HIM."

BILL SIEMSEN AND HIS BELOVED 9-YR-OLD LUNA

Mon - Jan 30, 2012 -   The judge ruled that ARMANDO FLORES, 47, will stand trial on:

***A FELONY CHARGE AND COULD BE SENT TO PRISON  WITH A MAXIMUM SENTENCE OF 4 YEARS FOR ALLOWING THE DANGEROUS DOG TO GET LOOSE.*****

Judge Medvigy agreed with prosecutors today that FLORES did not exercise enough care in handling  "BLUE"  WHO HAD ALREADY BEEN DESIGNATED A DANGEROUS ANIMAL JUST WEEKS BEFORE THE ATTACK ON WILLIAM SIEMSEN, AGE 90 !!!!!

An off-Duty Police Officer testified at the preliminary hearing that he witnessed the attack as he was driving by that day.  Stephen Russell said that on December 12 he spotted a large muscular dog fighting with William Siemsen's older and smaller  black Lab.  He pulled into the driveway, got out and watched as the dogfs moved closeer to Siemsen, who was sitting in a chair.  When Siemsen tried to break up the fight by hitting the Pit Bull with his cane, the Pit Bull turned on him and began mauling his  leg.  He said he was getting ready to pull his off-duty weapon and shoot the dog, when Flores  came and punched  his dog and grabbed it by the collar and pulled it away.  Mr. Siemsen was left with a large gash in his leg and his older dog was injured.

FLORES, WHO IS AN EX-CONVICT WITH A LENGTHY CRIMINAL RECORD,  WAS ARRESTED AFTER DEPUTIES ARRIVED AND DETERMINED HIS DOG HAD A HISTORY.  JUSTIN FOSTER, A COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER TESTIFIED THAT THE PIT BULL RECEIVED THE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ANIMAL DESIGNATION NOVEMBER 3, 2011, AFTER COMPLAINTS OF ATTACKS ON OTHER DOGS.  THE PIT BULL HAS NOW BEEN EUTHANIZED.

Medvigy denied a request from flores' lawyer ro reduce the charge to a misdemeaner arguing:

***HE WAS TRYING TO CONTROL HIS  DOG  WHEN IT BROKE FREE.***

PROSESCUTER   ROBIN HAMMOND  SAID,  "IT WAS CLEAR FLORES WAS NOT ENGAGING IN ORDINARY CARE OF A DOG WITH AN AGGRESSIVE PAST."

"THE  BREED TENDS TO BE DANGEROUS AND VIOLENT."

              "I THINK IT'S COMMON KNOWLEDGE."

UPDATE:  A Chatham County couple faces a hearing to determine if their dog should be considered a "dangerous dog" after he escaped his pen and attacked a 6-year-old girl Sunday.

The girl, GABBY BARLOW,  was taken by her parents, Matthew Barlow and Pamela Sellars, to a hospital where she was treated for lacerations and bruising on her face.  She was released after treatment.  One of the owners of the dog pulled him away and took the girl to her parents, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.

Oreo, a 60-pound, black and white Pit Bull Mix, was impounded by Savannah-Chatham Police Animal Control Precinct Officers after he bit the girl on the face on East Hopeton Court in West Chatham County about 6 p.m.

Michael and Patricia Wooten had been keeping Oreo in the pen inside the fenced yard with two other dogs since he was picked up running at large by Animal Control Officers in a previous incident.  The dogs escaped Sunday when the 3 neighborhood girls were playing. Because of his history,

Oreo was impounded and a hearing will be requested to designate him a "Dangerous Dog."  If that occurs, his owners will be required to register him as such, have him neutered and microchipped, they must carry a $25,000 security bond and take extra precautions to contain him.  Animal Control must approve of those precautions before the dog is returned.

Fri - Jan 27, 2012 - Samantha Clark was watching from a window as her two daughters played. Then she saw a Pit Bull come into the yard.  By the time she ran out the door to get to them, her 3-year-old was knocked on the ground and she could see the dog shaking her.  She managed to get the child up into her arms and then the Pit Bull turned on her 8-year-old daughter.  She began kicking the dog and another neighbor came by and helped chase the dog away.

That's not enough for the girl's mother. She said, "That dog would have killed my child if I hadn't got out there and I think  it should be put down."  Police cited the Pit Bull's owner for allowing a canine to "Run at Large" which carries a fine up to $1,000.  Police say the dog has never attacked anyone before, and that's another  reason it wasn't confiscated.

UPDATE:  Fri - Jan 27, 2012 - More information about the attack in this story- Beth Fortner chose not to report this horrible vicious attack and the comments made encourage her to report it for the safety of other children and pets in the area.  Also, this story did not name the breed of dogs that attacked them, but all the commenters assume it was Pit Bulls !!!
___________________________________________

Thurs - Jan 26, 2012 - VIDEO - Beth Fortner and her prescious dog Tushcanay  or  "TUSH"  were heading to a school bus stop with her young niece when 2 dogs charged out of the woods and began ripping into Tush:

***FORTNER FLUNG HERSELF OUT OF HER WHEELCHAIR AND TRIED GETTING IN BETWEEN TUSH AND THE 2 DOGS RIPPING HER TO SHREDS.

Beth Fortner of Zephyrhills and her dog, Tush, were attacked by two dogs recently as Fortner took her niece to a school bus stop. Fortner, who has trouble seeing, fought off the other dogs. “She’s saved me so many times,” she said of her loyal pal.

"We are one.  We're inseparable.  She is a part of me; I am a part of her," says Beth Fortner while lying beside Tush on the floor of the BluePearl veterinary hospoital.

The attack happened last Thursday along a rural Pasco County road.  During the struggle, Fortner received several bites to the bone on both her arms and legs, but they may heal faster than her psyche.

"NOW THE VISIONS AND THE SOUNDS ARE WHAT I'M WORKING THROUGH."

NEIGHBOR TABITHA STARLIN AND HER HUSBAND CAME TO HELP GET TUSH TO THE VET, BUT WHAT THEY SAW NEXT WAS TRULY AMAZING.  EVEN WITH HER FRONT LEG NEARLY SEVERED, TUSH INSISTED ON PRACTICALLY CARRYING FORTNER TO THEIR VAN.

Fortner considers tush, who has received some special training, a service dog.  The two have been a team for 10 years.  The vet says that Tush's fracture is stable and the inflammation is decreasing.

"YOU'RE GOING HOME SOON.  YOU'RE GOING TO RUN.. YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THE SAND AND THE OCEAN.,"  SAID FORTNER BURYING HER HEAD IN TUSH'S NECK.  "I LOVE YOU," SHE WHISPERED.

Saving Tush's life was made possible by the not-for-profit group Frankie's Friends.  The group has already paid $4,000 for surgery and more donations are needed.

COMMENT:  THE VIDEO STATES THESE WERE STRAY DOGS.  THERE'S  ABOUT A 70% CHANCE THESE WERE GRIPPING DOGS.....WHAT OTHER KIND OF DOG ATTEMPTS TO  AMPUTATE LEGS OFF ANOTHER DOG AS BIG AS TUSH ????  IF I'M WRONG...CORRECT ME...INFORM  ME !!!!!

But police were actually responding to a 911 call about a dog attack.

"Authorities responded, and the dog was actually latched onto the gentleman.  the police officers made several attempts to get the dogs off kthe gentleman and the dog would not come off.  They shot the dog to stop the attack," said Mayor DiCianni.  He said a couple -- a 67-year-old man, Robert Moore, and a 70-year-old Patricia Koprowski-- were watching a relative's Pit Bull at their own home when it attacked their own dog.

The dog then turned on Moore and Koprowski and was still attacking them when police arrived.

SALEM OR - 80-POUND PIT BULL CHARGED AN OFFICER ON A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE CALL BITING HIS FACE - PIT WAS SHOT !!!

Tues - Jan 24, 2012 -VIDEO -  Salem Police Officers shot and killed a dog attacking an officer during a domestic disturbance call. Sgt. Jason Van Meter said he was responding to a 9-1-1 call at a home  last Thursday evening when he feared a woman inside the home was in danger. He felt the woman was going to be assaulted so he opened the door and a large dog came out and essentially latched onto his face.  He was backed up against a wall, so the other officers were forced to shoot.  The option of a taser was considered but Van Meter says using a taser on a dog biting your face is that it make it bite harder.

Van Meter says that he ooves dogs and didn't want this to happen.  He warned the couople arguing inside to lock up their dog before he entered.  He yelled several times loud enough people across the street heard him.

The incident is still under investigation.  Van Meter said the emergency room doctors were able to "SEW AND GLUE HIS NOSE BACK TOGETHER BUT HE HAS A LONG ROAD BACK TO RECOVERY."

The fines for each of those citations could be as much as $500 each, but some of the residents say the citations aren't enough when it comes to the safety of people in the neighborhood:

"THE BURDEN NEEDS TO FALL ON THE HOMEOWNER FIRST AND FOREMOST THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME KIND OF INSURANCE THAT A HOMEOWNER HAS TO TAKE OUT IF THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE A LARGE, AGGRESSIVE BREED LIKE THAT,"  SAID RESIDENT PORFIRIO VIDAL, WHO WAS BITTEN AS HE TRIED TO HELP CORRAL THE DOGS.  "THE FACT THAT THE FENCE WAS FLIMSY ENOUGH FOR THEM TO ESCAPE TO BEGIN WITH, THAT'S AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED A LONG TIME AGO -  NOT ONCE SOMEONE'S ATTACKED,"

12 DEATHS WERE CHILDREN KILLED BY FAMILY DOGS

9 DEATHS WERE PEOPLE KILLED BY THEIR NEIGHBOR'S DOGS

MANY, MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN MAULED BY THEIR OWN DOGS - MAINLY PIT BULLS THIS PAST YEAR - AMPUTATIONS BY PIT ARE BECOMING  ROUTINE  !!!!!.....HERE'S ONE

WAGMATCOOK NS CANADA - A NEIGHBOUR'S PIT BULL CHASED AFTER CHILDREN SLEDDING AND GRABBED ONTO 1 GIRL INJURING HER - IT IS A "REPEAT OFFENDER" PIT

Charlize Bernard, 7, left, and her brother Edwin, 13, were part of a group of children that was chased and attacked by a pit bull while playing outside their home on Friday evening. Charlize displays a teddy bear on Monday that she received from paramedics on Friday while being treated for multiple bite wounds. Steve Wadden - Cape Breton Post

"A FORMER WAGMATCOOK BAND CHIEF SAID THE NUMBER OF PIT BULLS IN THE COMMUNITY  HAS BECOME A BIG PROBLEM THE BAND COUNCIL DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO ADDRESS.  PEOPLE STARTED BREEDING DOGS CARELESSLY A FEW YEARS AGO. THE MAJORITY OF THESE  DOG ARE INBRED - SOMETIMES IT'S A PIT BULL CROSSED WITH A ROTTWEILER -  BUT MOST OF THEM ARE PIT BULLS."

Tues - Jan 24, 2012 - VIDEO -  7-year-old Charlize Bernard was with her older brother Edwin and 2 friends  when the neighbor's PIT BULL ran out of their house and begin chasing them.  It grabbed on to Charlize's back and begin shaking her.  Her brother kicked it and it let go, but then it bit her again shaking her more and ripped her jacket.  Her brother, Edwin, kept kicking the dog as the other kids ran back to the house..  All the kids stayed inside until the neighbor came out and got the Pit Bull under control. An ambulance came in 15 minutes and Charlize had her wounds treated at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck.

Their mother says the Pit Bull has also killed the family's cat. The incident has traumatized the child as well as her mother. This was the second person the dog has attacked in recent months.  A woman living on the same street required stitches when she encountered the same dog last summer.  They want the dog destroyed right away, but it wasn't that simple. The dog was given to a person to sell on the Waycobah First Nation, a 30-kilometre drive away on Sunday.

The community doesn't have a full-time dog control officer and contracts out with another county on a case-by-case basis.  Waycobah dog catcher Terry Gould is supposed to seize the dog on Monday and euthanize it immediately..  Not much else can be done and it really is up to the dog's owner to be responsible  and secure their dogs.  In this case the owner, and neighbor, Celia Isadore, says the dog doesn't even belong to her although it was living in her home.  She says her 3-year-old granddaughter had opened the front door by accident and the Pit Bull began chasing the children.

"IT WASN'T ANYBODY'S FAULT...BECAUSE THE LITTLE GIRL OPENED THE DOOR AND THE DOG RAN OUT......THE OWNER SAYS....BECAUSE.......PIT BULLS ARE UNPREDICTABLE..."

(PROVING ONCE AGAIN THAT PIT NUTTERS LIVE EVERYWHERE AND CAN BE MALE OR FEMALE AND EVEN A GRANDMOTHER  .....AND BE AN INDIAN OR ESKIMO ...WHATEVER....THEY ARE EVERYWHERE...AND IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO GETS MAULED.).

He gave a report to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, and Animal Control officer Trent Davis said he's been searching for the dog ever since Wednesday morning, but he can not find anything while riding through the area.

Womack said the pit bull came from a vacant lot near the corner of 34th Avenue and Ormond Street.  He says several of his neighbors own Pit Bulls and he thinks he knows which one killed Jazz, but between the darkness and panic, he can't be sure. David says he has even walked the area and can not find any loose dogs.

EVEN IF THE OWNER  IS STANDING OUT IN THE YARD WITH THE DOG, IT HAS TO BE ON A LEASH.  ANIMAL CONTROL CAN CHARGE OWNERS WITH A RANGE OF MISDEMEANOR OFFENSES. THE FINES CAN REACH $600.

Womack said he was horrified to lose a pet he'd grown to love during the past 2 months, but isn't calling for authorities to remove every potentially dangerous dog from his neighborhood.  He hopes that by talking about the incident, people in the area will be aware of their surroundings and owners of pit bulls will be reminded of their strength.

"I'VE NOTICED SEVERAL OF MY NEIGHBORS OUT WALKING DOGS, AND I'M VERY CONCERNED FOR THEM AND THEIR SAFETY.  PEOPLE REALLY NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE POWER THAT THESE THINGS HAVE AND WHEN THEY SET THEIR MIND TO SOMETHING, THEY'RE GOING TO DO IT."

Jeremy Valdez is deeply saddened from the tragic loss of his 16 month old son, Jace Paul Valdez, from the pit bull attack which occurred Saturday evening.  Baby Jace had been in Mr. Valdez's sole care and custody for over the past year; however, the child was visiting his mother for the week where she resides with her parents at their home in Montgomery County and where the attack occurred.  While Mr. Valdez has been informed that baby Jace was left alone and unsupervised in the presence of the pit bull, he is uncertain of many of the details surrounding the events.  Detectives are still investigating the facts of that night and whether or not criminal charges will be brought, if any, against any of the residents of the household where the fatality occurred.

****************************
In the honor  of the life of his son, Mr. Valdez, with the assistance of Wells Fargo Bank, created a Memorial Fund to help with costs associated with the burial and funeral of Baby Jace.  Proceeds from the fund will also go to help support the raising of awareness of the risks associated with leaving small children alone in the presence of large animals.

FORSYTH COUNTY NC - 1987 - CHILD THOUGHT TO HAVE BEEN MURDERED - EVIDENCE NOW SHOWS HE WAS KILLED BY DOGS

Family Holds First Vigil For 6-Year-Old Found Dead in '87

THE BOY'S MOTHER,  THOUGHT TO BE THE ONLY PERSON EVER IDENTIFIED AS THE SUSPECT IN HER SON'S DEATH, HAS NOW BEEN CLEARED.

Thurs - Jan 19, 2012 - A 6-year-old boy whose death was ruled homicide by strangulation nearly 25 years ago actually died as a result of a dog attack, deputies said on Thursday.

 Nicholas Loris
The body of Nicholas Benjamin Loris was found on Feb. 21, 1987 by a neighbor in a wooded ravine outside a home on Friendship-Ledford Road, located about 150 yards away from the Davidson County home near the Forsyth County line. The Medical Examiner originally ruled his death as a homicide by strangulation, but the case went cold over the years.  After consulting medical and forensic experts from across the country, however, investigators found that Loris's injuries were consistent with those sustained from a typical dog attack, deputies said:

PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE SCENE WERE ENHANCED USING MODERN TECHNOLOGY.  THE ENHANCED PHOTOGRAPHS REVEALED LIGATURE MARKS ON THE BOY'S NECK CONTAINING PATTERNS THAT MATCHED HIS CLOTHING. NORTH CAROLINA'S CHIEF MEDICAL EXAMINER CHANGED THE MANNER OF LORIS'S DEATH TO "ACCIDENT DUE TO COMPLICATIONS FROM A DOG ATTACK"  ON JAN 5, DEPUTIES SAID.

PEORIA IL - A HEARTBREAKING STORY OF AN ELDERLY COUPLE TRYING TO ENJOY HAVING A PET DOG - THEIR 1ST PET WAS SHOT IN THEIR BACK YARD - 2ND PET ATTACKED BY A PIT BULL THAT CAME OVER THEIR 5 FT FENCE !!!!!

DOG_ATTACK.JPG

Thurs - Jan 19, 2012 - Jerry and Beverly Hash, ages 66 and 67, doubted they would ever get another dog after their  little dog "SPIKE" a Cairn Terrier they had since 2004, was found shot in their own back yard.  They did not want to take a chance on having another beloved pet harmed again. Police said the weapon used to kill Spike was likely a high-powered airgun, but Jerry Hash believes the size of the bullet hole indicated a small-caliber pistol.  No arrest was ever made.

Six months after they lost Spike, they caved into getting a mixed-breed Papillon they named "George". The little pet loved to play outside in the fenced back yard that they always kept locked.  Early Tuesday morning George needed to go out to do his business and Beverly Hash continued about doing housework when she heard  George screaming.  She hurried out the door to see him being attacked by a tan Pit Bull.  The Pit had him pinned to the ground tearing at his leg.  She turned to grab a broom intending to:

"BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THAT PIT BULL"

Her noise must have done some good because the pit stopped and went back over their fence.  She called 911.  George's leg was gushing with blood as Jerry Hash came running and got into his car and followed the Pit Bull back to its home.  The Pit had blood on him and a man came out of the house and yelled to him:  "If you don't press charges, I'll pay the vet bill."

Peoria Police soon arrived and an officer with Peoria County Animal Protection Services. The man, Joshua Collier was cited with an ordinance violation of letting a dog run loose and biting another pet.  The fine is $300 , though Collier will have to address the matter in court.

*****************

THIS IS THE SECOND FINE FOR COLLIER REGARDING THE DOG - A 4-YEAR-OLD PIT BULL NAMED KARMA.  IN SEPTEMBER, COLLIER WAS FINED $12 FOR THE SAME THING --KARMA GOT LOOSE AND ATTACKED ANOTHER DOG ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE HASH HOME.......BUT AUTHORITIES AREN'T SURE WHO OWNS KARMA.  A WOMAN'S NAME WAS ON THE VACCINATION.  ANOTHER PIT BULL "TANK" ALSO LIVES AT THE ADDRESS.

*********************

A "Dangerous Dog"  investigation is underway and a judge could mandate the Pit Bull be kept under strict conditions.  The Hashes worry about another attack on George.  He  is on antibiotics and is recovering physically but they are concerned about him emotionally.

COMMENT:  HANG IN THERE BEVERLY, JERRY, AND GEORGE.  WE WILL BE THINKING OF YOU EVERY DAY.  NONE OF US ARE SAFE ANYMORE, EVEN BEHIND A STRONG 5-FOOT FENCE !!!!!!

MILTON GA - A PIT BULL ATTACKED AND KILLED A FAMILY'S BELOVED PET

Weds - Jan 18, 2012 - A neighbor's PIT BULL ran to the front yard and attacked a family's  West Highland terrier.  Another neighbor came to help and began punching the pit bull in the head.  It backed off and acted like it was coming at him, then resumed its attack on the terrier.  The terrier was taken to the vet but its injuries were too severe and it died.  The pit bull's owner was located and asked where his dog was.  He said it had just come onto his back porch and had blood on its mouth.  The owner said that he had not known that his pit bull had left his yard.  He was issued a citation for vicious animal at large.

COMMENT TO THIS STORY FROM DEBBIE BELL:

"It is never the dog's fault, as dogs do not have morals and do not understand human laws.  It is however, the pit breeder  and promoter's  faults that these expert dog-mauling dogs are in our communities.

PIT PROMOTERS:  Imagine this.  Instead of euthanizing pits with an injection, your pit bull is killed the way the pit bull killed this small dog. The pit owner's family must watch.  The pit is clamped into a large spiked device, where it screams in pain.  It's face, neck and chest are impaled and then the dog is shaken until almost unconscious.  Then the dog is released from the clamping device and only one leg is placed in the clamping device and then it is shaken until the leg is torn from the dog's body.  Then the bleeding, dying pit is handed to the owners to hold while  it dies.  Now here's the best part - The anguished pit owners are told:

"GET OVER IT, SUFFERING DYING DOGS IS PART OF NATURE."

Don't like to visualize your dog dying  this way?  The victim dog's owners do not like to either.

Free mandatory spay/neuter microchipping for all pits/pit mixes, all dog aggressive dogs.  Of all breed traits, dog aggression is the worst.  Let the dog killing experts become extinct.  Everybody sane wins.  All dogs, including the pit bulls themselves, win too."

MONTGOMERY COUNTY TX - 16 -MONTH-OLD BOY MAULED TO DEATH BY PIT BULL IS IDENTIFIED - JACE PAUL VALDEZ

THE CHILD WAS KILLED BY THE GRANDPARENT'S MALE PIT BULL ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 7 YEARS OLD.

Weds - Jan 18, 2012 - The medical examiner has issued a temporary ruling that  the death was "AN ACCIDENT".  The grandmother was the only person present during the attack and she has been hospitalized for shock.  The 45-year-old grandmother's name has not been released.

Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Phil Grant says the case remains under investigation to determine whether there still may be criminal liability.  Investigators are looking into possible violations of a "vicious dog law" adopted in 2007 that states a person can be criminally liable if he was aware that his dog was dangerous and failed to reasonably secure the animal.  They are checking into whether reasonable care was provided to try to save the victim's life.

The toddler and his mother moved into her parent's home  ----4 MONTHS AGO???.....

At least one neighbor in this story is saying the dog has run loose before and had snapped at someone.

SULPHUR LA - NEIGHBOR'S PIT BULL ATTACKED A 4-YEAR-OLD BOY - PLASTIC SURGERY NEEDED

Tues - Jan 17, 2012 - On Saturday evening  4-year-old Dacoryin Ledoux was playing in a neighbor's yard when their PIT BULL attacked him.  He was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery to close wounds on his face, arm and ear.

The owner had stepped inside for a minute and a girl was holding the dog when it attacked the boy.  She ran inside for help.  The dog was put down.

ANONYMOUS COMMENT TO THIS STORY: A commenter states that this was a recently "RESCUED PREGNANT FEMALE PIT BULL"   by her relative and this 4-yr-old child was playing 4 houses down from his house. The commenter states that the owner did not realize the boy was in her yard playing or she would have never let the Pit Bull out to use the bathroom.

SAN ANTONIO TX - NEIGHBOR'S 2 PIT BULLS ATTACKED AND SHREDDED A 12-YEAR-OLD BOY'S BELOVED PET "TIMO"

VICTIM SPEAKS:  "WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FEARFUL OF THEM.  IF THEY ALREADY HURT AN ANIMAL, I THINK THEY COULD HURT A PERSON.  I HOPE THEY DON'T COME BACK.  I DON'T LIKE THOSE DOGS."

Tues - Jan 17, 2012 - Residents in a North San Antonio neighborhood say they're fed up with pit bulls killing their animals.  They're crying out for more to be done before a human is the next to be attacked.

12-year-old  GERALDO ROQUE  says he watched as his dog  TIMO  was torn apart by 2 Pit Bulls that live across the street in the 500 block of Frost.  The family says they already feared the dogs.

"IF THEY ALREADY HURT AN ANIMAL, i THINK THEY COULD HURT A PERSON.  i HOPE THEY DON'T COME BACK.  I DON'T LIKE THOSE DOGS."

ACS says they picked up the dogs but because this was an animal on animal attack, they will not be quarantined.  KENS 5 is waiting to learn whether they will be returned to the owner.

"DOG FIGHTING DVD'S SOLD LEGALLY IN VIDEO STORES"

January 2012 -  VIDEO  - It might not be right, but it's legal.....There's over an hour's worth of disturbing video showcasing a sick, illegal activity.  An undercover camera went inside a video store and had no problem buying the DVD.  George Bengal with the PSPCA is disgusted by it.  He's seen the DVD in houses where his undercover team has busted dog fighting rings.  Dog fighting is so big because of the money that's involved.  He says the good thing is the DVD's can be used as evidence.

VICTIM SPEAKS:  "I JUST WANT PEOPLE TO KEEP THEIR DOGS SAFE.  PEOPLE WITH AGGRESSIVE DOGS SHOULD MAKE SURE THEIR PETS ARE SAFELY SECURED. THE DAMAGE THEY CAN DO IS HORRIBLE.  IF SPEAKING UP ABOUT THE INCIDENT WILL SERVE AS A CAUTIONARY TALE, THEN MY BABY DIDN'T DIE IN VAIN."

Mon - Jan 16, 2012 - Sara Dunaway was walking down Seventh Street on her way to Eliot elementary School to pick up two young girls she babysits. She had with her a 2-year-old boy she also keeps  and her little Chihuahua Ruffy. She spotted the 2 loose Pit Bulls chasing a small dog at the corner of Maple. She says she called Gilroy Police Department, and then continued on down Seventh Street.  She remembers seeing an ice cream truck parked nearby.

The Pit Bulls reappeared and spotted Ruffy and came after them.  The ice cream truck driver helped her by picking up the little boy and holding him high.  She picked up her little Ruffy and the Pits got Ruffy and began biting her and knocked her down and began dragging her.

Passersby came to her aid and called the Police and an ambulance.  The owners of the Pit Bulls have not been named.  They  ----DON'T KNOW HOW THEIR DOGS GOT OUT...SOMEBODY LET THEM OUT."---

THE 2 PIT BULLS - ONE MALE AND ONE AN   "EXPECTING" FEMALE", WERE DEEMED DANGEROUS BY THE CITY OF GILROY'S ANIMAL CONTROL DEPARTMENT AND WERE  EUTHANIZED.

FOR SOME REASON THIS TRENTON NJ PIT BULL STORY REMINDED ME OF ONE OF THE DOZENS OF DECATUR AL PIT BULL STORIES THAT I GATHER ON A DAILY BASIS.  THEY ARE ALL IN MY HEAD AND SOMETIMES ONE JUST HAS TO POP OUT !!!!!!!!!

December 2011 - Decatur Al - We had a service man come to our home to do a check on a  major appliance that we have a service contract on...UPON ENTERING THIS HOME I ALWAYS TELL EVERYONE THAT I HAVE 2 BASSET HOUNDS THAT STAY IN THE DEN.  THEY MAY BARK BUT I WILL SHUT THEM UP AND CONTROL THEM AND THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COME INTO THE ROOM WHERE YOU ARE......THE SERVICE MAN LAUGHED AND SAID....OH, THAT'S OK... THEY WANT BOTHER ME...I HAVE A PIT BULL....I'VE RAISED PIT BULLS ALL MY LIFE......THIS ONE I GOT NOW.......SHE GOT OUT LAST WEEK.....I DON'T KNOW HOW SHE GOT OUT.....MUST HAVE BEEN SOME OF THOSE KIDS MY GIRLFRIEND HAS.....LET HER GET OUT THE DOOR......SHE WAS GONE FOR 5 DAYS.....I DON'T KNOW WHERE ALL SHE WENT.......SHE JUST SHOWED BACK UP AT MY DOOR YESTERDAY MORNING....

"I HOPE SHE DIDN'T KILL TOO MANY CATS AND SMALL DOGS WHILE SHE WAS GONE. SHE HATES OTHER DOGS AND SHE REALLY HATES CATS !!!!!"

(This man lived no more than 2 miles from us.)

PIT BULL MAULINGS ARE A DAILY AFFAIR ACROSS THE UNITED STATES; HUMAN DEATHS ARE NOT RARE; WITHOUT INSURANCE FUTURE VICTIMS OF PIT BULL ATTACKS WILL SUFFER THE INJURIES AND PAY THE BILLS !!!!!

5 AMERICANS WERE KILLED BY PIT BULLS IN DECEMBER 2011 ALONE -- IF YOU COUNT THE UNBORN CHILD OF THE VOCAL PIT BULL ADVOCATE DARLA NAPORA WHO WAS KILLED BY HER OWN PIT BULL --  24 AMERICANS WERE KILLED IN TOTAL IN 2011.

Ohio residents have the right to expect that Ohio law is written by Ohio legislators, with the best interests of their constituents in mind.  Not so with --

PROPOSED HOUSE BILL 14.

A Freedom of Information Act request for State Rep. Barbara Sears' records tells us that HB 14 was written by:   BEST FRIENDS ANIMAL SOCIETY, A MULTIMILLION-DOLLAR ANIMAL-RIGHT PAC HEADQUARTERED IN KANAB, UTAH.

Under the guise of granting "due process" to owners of dogs involved in violent incidents, HB 14 would:

REMOVE THE INSURANCE REQUIREMENT FOR DOGS COMMONLY KNOWN AS PIT BULLS, PER THE OHIO SUPREME COURT.

That decision -   STATE OF OHIO v. ANDERSON   clearly defines exactly what a pit bull is and why it should be insured.

The last time an animal-rights organization attempted to change Ohio law, the Humane Society of the United States was bold and open about its intent.  The voters of Ohio were not pleased by HSUS interference, and HSUS was handed a resounding defeat.

Best Friends has made a stealth move in the Ohio legislature, and Ohio residents will be the losers.  Without insurance, future victims of pit bull attacks will suffer the injuries and pay the bills.  Pit Bull maulings are a daily affair across sthe United States; human deaths from these attacks are not rare.  In December 2011 alone, five Americans were killed by pit bulls, and the pit bull death total for the year was 23  -- 24 if you count the unborn child of the vocal pit bull advocate  DARLA NAPORA  who was killed by her own pit bull.

The expected passage of HB 14  will sacrifice a proactive law to the whims of an out-of-state animal-rights PAC.  Ohio legislators should have told Best Friends that the safety of Ohio families is not for sale, but they have not.    ----Carol Miller    Olmsted Falls

YOUNGSTOWN OH - NEIGHBOR'S PIT BULL GETS LOOSE AND BEGINS ATTACKING ANOTHER NEIGHBOR'S DOG CHAINED NEAR THE BACKDOOR TO HER HOME - SHE USED A SHOTGUN ON IT !!!

Mon - Jan 16, 2012 - Police were called to the 100 block of Halls Heights Avenue just after 4 pm Sunday when a woman heard her dog being attacked by a brown and white PIT BULL.  The woman told police she grabbed a shotgun and went outside and the Pit Bull ran.  When she walked around to make sure the dog had left her property, she found it still behind her garage. She says the Pit Bull began growling and barking at her  and she fired one shot from the shotgun  hitting the dog in the face. The dog then still chased the woman's 14-year-old son forcing him to jump onto a parked car to escape.

The owner of the dog came forth and said she had "rescued" the2-year-old  pit bull 8 months ago. She told police that her children had gone out to play and the dog got outside and would not come back in. She got the dog back inside her house after it was shot but the dog warden told her the animal is going to need immediate medical attention.

Police reports say the dog is not properly registered with the county:

CITY LAW REQUIRES THAT ALL PIT BULLS BE CONFINED TO A PEN WITH AN ENCLOSED TOP OR LEASHED AND MUZZLED .  OWNERS MUST CARRY $100,000 INSURANCE ON THE ANIMAL AND POST SIGNS LETTING OTHERS KNOW A DOG RESIDES ON THE PROPERTY

LAWTON OK - PIT BULL JUMPED FENCE AND ATTACKED 2 CHILDREN RIDING ON SCOOTERS IN FRONT OF THEIR HOUSE

"IF NOBODY HAD BEEN THERE TO HELP THOSE CHILDREN, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED BY THAT DOG !!!"

Sun - Jan 15, 2012 - On the afternoon of January 10,  two children were playing on scooters in front of their house. Neighbors that witnessed the dog attacked said that the Pit Bull jumped the fence and chased them and pinned them down.  Both children  suffered multiple puncture wounds to their legs and arms and were taken to hospitals.

The event has left neighbors understandably shaken. They have concerns about their children playing outside.  The dog was taken into custody and the owner willingly took the dog to a vet to be put down.

UPDATE:  SUN - Jan 15, 2012 - A 9-year-old boy preparing for a friend's birthday party was violently attacked by a PIT BULL when he wandered into the homes yard.  Neighbors say the dog latched on to the boys arm and refused to let go:

"IT WAS HORRIBLE, ONE OF THE WORST THINGS I'VE EVER SEEN," said neighbor Pat Nunes.

The boy named Malik, underwent surgery Saturday afternoon and is recovering.  The incident happened at the boy's aunt's house.  The boy's grandmother was also injured.

Sat - Jan 14, 2012 - DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO A DOG ATTACK  at 10:10 am and discovered 2 victims.  An adult woman was in stable condition, but a 9-year-old boy had sustained an injury to his head and severe injury to his arm, according to Sheriff's Deputy Jason Ramos.

The dog was contained in the backyard of the residence and was observed aggressively trying to jump over the fence.  Fearing imminent danger to themselves or citizens if the dog escaped, one of the deputies shot and killed the dog.  Animal Control Officers took custody of another dog that had been inside the residence.

The boy had reportedly accessed the backyard from inside the residence at which time the dog attacked him.
