HAMILTON ONTARIO CANADA - WOMAN HEARS KNOCK AT DOOR - SHE OPENS IT - A YOUNG GIRL IS THERE - THEN AN 80-POUND PIT BULL CHARGES IN AND KILLS FAMILY'S BELOVED POODLE MAX !!!!

THE SAME PIT BULL HAD ATTACKED VIRGINIA VADER WHILE WALKING HER DOG SEVERAL BLOCKS AWAY 45 MINUTES EARLIER.

Shannon Johnson, Jim Reeve and their son Jacob with a picture of their dog Max, that had to be put down after it was attacked in their home by a pit bull.

Weds - Feb 29, 2012 - The owner of the PIT BULL that mauled a family's poodle at Christmas has been fined $2,500 and banned from owning a dog for 10 years.

RICK TRAVALE  was also ordered in provincial offences court Monday to pay, within 60 days, $2,507 to the victims to cover their vet bills.  He's out $5,007 in total.

The attack that killed poodle Max happened Christmas morning, 2010, on Wood Street East.  His owner, Shannon Johnson, answered a knock at her door from a young girl.  Just as Johnson opened the door, an 80-pound PIT BULL charged into the house and attacked Max.  By the time Johnson managed to grab the PIT BULL, it got loose again and ran out, leaving behind a hallway splattered with blood and Max clinging to life.

There was blood all over....It was horrible, and Max had to be put down that night.

THE SAME PIT BULL HAD ATTACKED VIRGINIA VADER WHILE WALKING HER DOG SEVRAL BLOCKS AWAY 45 MINUTES EARLIER.  SHE WAS RESCUED BY A PASSERBY.

************************************************.

While glad to get restitution and grateful for a new dog, Reeve is adamant about pursuing the matter further with a lawsuit against the owner.

************************************************

JOHNSON AND HER FAMILY FACED MONTHS OF FRUSTRATION TRYING TO FIND OUT THE IDENTITY OF THE PIT BULL'S OWNER AND EVEN FILED A 'FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST', BUT THEY WERE NOT GIVEN THE INFORMATION.  THE COUPLE LEARNED TRAVALE'S IDENTITY ONLY AFTER JOHNSON RECEIVED A SUMMONS A FEW WEEKS AGO TO TESTIFY IN COURT ----AND----AFTER THEY HAD ALREADY FILE A $25,000 LAWSUIT AGAINST TWO PEOPLE BELIEVED TO BE THE OWNERS.

The Pit Bull was confiscated by the city's Animal Control shortly after the attack and destroyed.

LAPORTE MN - HUBBARD COUNTY MN - "I GUESS WE KNOW WHY JESSE RAN NOW !!!"

image

Weds - Feb 29, 2012 - Jesse James Johnson, 30, was arrested February 8,  following a high-speed pursuit that went down county roads and the Paul Bunyan Hiking Trail at speeds over 80 mph.

Johnson's charges were upgraded last week to include a charge of 3rd Degree Assault, for allegedly inflicting "SUBSTANTIAL BODILY HARM" to Deputy Dan May.  May suffered a hand injury when Johnson allegedly threw his 2 PIT BULLS  at the officer to avoid arrest and the dogs bit the deputy.

The amended complaint states officers searched Johnson's vehicle when the pursuit ended in a crash on County Road 37, locating 25.4 grams of  methamphetamine....and $5,000.

Johnson, who remains incarcerated in the Hubbard County jail, said he was unemployed, yet turned down a public defender and retained his own counsel.

A woman at the scene remarked, "I GUESS WE KNOW WHY JESSE RAN NOW,"  ACCORDING TO THE COMPLAINT.

Officers had gone to Johnson's residence that day to execute a felony arrest warrant.  His next appearance is March 12,

COLORADO SPRINGS CO - AN AMERICAN BULLDOG MAULED A BELOVED 9-POUND POMERANIAN TO DEATH AT A DOG PARK

RICK AND MARGE NUNEZ TOOK THEIR 3 POMS TO PALMER PARK DOG PARK AND WAS LETTING THEM RUN IN A SMALL DOG  ENCLOSURE  CLEARLY MARKED ON THE GATE FOR DOGS WEIGHING 30 POUNDS OR LESS.  WHEN THE MAN WHO HAD THE LARGE AMERICAN BULL DOG WAS ASKED WHY HE HAD HIS LARGE DOG IN THIS ENCLOSURE,  HE SAID:

"BECAUSE HE WAS AGGRESSIVE WITH THE BIG DOGS."

HANDSOME, BELOVED, PRESCIOUS  BLUE...RIP

Weds - Feb 29, 2012 - It was supposed to be  a happy outing for the 3 Pomeranians who love to run like the wind.  The Nunez' took Blue and their other 2 pets into the park's enclosure for small dogs.  They were talking when some people began to shout.  They turned to see Blue hanging from a large dog's mouth. The man with the dog finally got hold of its dragging leash and he and Rick Nunez tried to pry the dog's mouth open, and finally the larger animal let Blue go.

Blue was given mouth-to-mouth on the way to the vet, and they pressed on his little chest.  The vet pronounced him dead.

Rick and Marge Nunez say they had not even noticed the big dog in the enclosure or they would have never gone in with their small dogs.  Later they asked the man why he put the big dog in the area for little dogs instead of in the enclosure for big dogs.  He said because he was aggressive with big dogs.

The attacking dog was later identified as an American Bull dog named Bruno. The breed has powerful jaws and muscular bodies, weighing from 60 to 120 pounds.  They have been banned in some cities, including Aurora along with Pit Bulls and other dogs deemed dangerous.

This dog's ownership is unclear.  The man who had the dog said the dog belonged to someone else and asked that his name not be used.  HE ALSO SAID THAT BRUNO WAS IN THAT ENCLOSURE BECAUSE THEY WERE "BEING SAFE".  THEY WANTED TO SOCIALIZE HIM, LET HIM VIEW THE OTHER LARGE DOGS, AND MAKE SURE OTHER DOGS WHO  USUALLY RUSH THE MAIN GATE, WOULD ACCEPT HIM.

******************************************************

NOW ENTERS THE PIT NUTTER AND LISTEN TO HIM SPEAK !!!!!!!!

"I'M SORRY.  MY HEART GOES OUT TO THEM.  THE POMERANIAN STRUCK FIRST.  THE LITTLE ONE GOT TOUGH.  HE GOT MY DOG'S LEG AND MY DOG RESPONDED.  IT WAS 2 UNFIXED MALES.

'''" BRUNO  WENT  DOG , NOT  CRAZY """

THE LITTLE DOG'S NECK WAS BROKEN WHEN NUNEZ TRIED TO GET THE DOG FROM BRUNO'S MOUTH. BRUNO LIVES IN A HOME WITH 2 CATS, A SMALL DOG, RABBITS AND TWO SMALL CHILDREN.  HE PULLED THE KIDS AROUND ON THEIR TRICYCLES, SLEPT WITH THEM, HE HAS NEVER BEEN AGGRESSIVE TO DOGS.

*******************************************************

They called the police who refeerred them to El Paso County Animal Control. A spokeswoman for the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region said that the incident is under investigation.

THE MAN NOW SAYS THAT BRUNO IS  "GONE"....BUT HE WOULD NOT ELABORATE.

LUBBOCK TX - DOGS HAVE ATTACKED A BELOVED MINIATURE HORSE "PEPPERJACK" FOR THE SECOND TIME

"THE HORSES WERE PART OF HEARTS AND HOOVES OF LUBBOCK, A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDED THEM TO PATIENTS FOR THERAPEUTIC PURPOSES."

Pepperjack suffered most of his wounds on his face and throat.

Weds - Feb 29, 2012 - Pepperjack was attacked Monday morning in his paddock by 2 dogs.  Kauli Sparks' neighbor woke her up at 7:30 am to tell her 2 dogs were dragging the little horse around.  She has 3 of these horses now and was shocked to see it happen once again !!!

In 2008 Pepperjack was injured when 2 PIT BULLS went on a violent rampage, killing 2 minature horses and injuring 4 others.  This time he suffered most of his wounds on his face and throat.  He was rushed to the vet who said:

"I HAVE NEVER PUT SO MANY STITCHES IN A HORSE."

Sparks believes the dogs that were involved in this attack were not strays. She described one as a brown German Shepherd Mix and the other as a black Pit Bull.  Animal Control was called to the scene, but was not able to locate the two dogs.  She's concerned they are going to come back.

DUNN NC - CHIEF B.P.JONES IS REQUESTING A CITYWIDE BAN ON PIT BULLS - "WE HAVE A PROBLEM AND IT'S INCREASING"

"THEY ARE QUICK TO BITE, THEY TURN ON THEIR OWNERS AND HAVE EVEN TRIED TO ATTACK POLICE OFFICERS."

Weds - Feb 29, 2012 - Dunn police say they've handled dozens of calls about aggressive PIT BULL TERRIERS in the last year, prompting Chief B.P. Jones to request a citywide ban on the breed.

Jones, who plans to discuss his proposal for a pit bull ban with the City Council, says that:

*************************************************

"OWNERS OF THE BREED DON'T TAKE THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT PEOPLE FROM THE DOGS.  THEY TREAT PIT BULLS LIKE ANY OTHER DOGS, BUT THE PIT BULL DOG IS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER DOGS."

**************************************************

He wants the city to model an ordinance after Rockford Washington, which bans pit bulls because of their breeding.  "The breeds have been universally and historically selected and bred for dog fighting.  The breeds are unique among dogs in that they possess characteristics of aggression, strength, gameness, viciousness, unpredictability and savageness.

Other cities, such as Denver, Colorado,  have similar laws.  Jones acknowledged that a full ban might be a tough sell, but said he hopes it will lead to tougher rules for pit bull owners.

"IF YOU'RE GOING TO KEEP A PIT BULL IN THE CITY, YOU'VE GOT TO HAVE A COVERED PEN THAT, NOT ONLY HAS A TOP, BUT A BOTTOM, SO THE PIT BULL CAN'T GET OUT."

In December, an animal shelter in nearby Cumberland County considered halting adoptions on "bully breeds.", including  PIT BULLS, ROTTWEILLERS AND CHOWS.

There aren't any PIT BULL bans currently on the books in North Carolina, but the town of  EDENTON  IN CHOWAN COUNTY  requires owners to register pit bulls, rottweilers and chows.  The law also requires owners to properly contain the animals and post "BEWARE OF DOG"  signs.

WILLOWS CA - ROTTWEILER ATTACKS 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL OUTSIDE MURDOCK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Tues - Feb 28, 2012 - STORY AND  VIDEO - an 11-year-old girl is recovering this evening after being attacked by a  ROTTWEILER outside a Willows elementary school.  The attack happened just before 8 am Monday morning outside Murdock Elementary School on Green Street.

The girl's aunt was driving the children to school and the girl got out of the car to try and shoo away a pack of  3 dogs so her younger brother could make it to school safely.  When she got out the Rottweiler reportedly knocked her to the ground and began biting her.  Her aunt got her to Glenn Medical Center where she received treatment.  Meanwhile Animal Control Officers were able to track down the dog's owner who surrendered the animal to deputies.

Glenn County Sheriff Larry Jones said, "I'm glad we were able to contact the owner, get that dog in custody, and get it off the street and get the situation under control before anyone else was injured."

The dog was put down and officials are awaiting the results of a rabies test, because the dog's rabies vaccination records expired Monday.

FREMONT NE - PIT BULL BITES A 7-YEAR-OLD BOY - PIT NUTTER IS A REPEAT OFFENDER

Tues - Feb 28, 2012 - A Fremont man was cited Monday afternoon after his dog was accused of biting a 7-year-old boy.  Deputy Chief Jeff Elliot of the Fremont Police Department said 20-year-old Dianga Flores was cited for no dog license and no rabies vaccination following the incident in the 2800 block of West Broad Street.  Flores'  PIT BULL was impounded.

Records show that Flores was arrested last May for dog at large and vicious dog.  That dog was destroyed.

FOLEY AL - COUPLE COMES OUT TO FIND THE FRONT OF THEIR MINIVAN DESTROYED - INVESTIGATORS SAY IT WAS 2 PIT BULL/MASTIFFS DETERMINED TO GET THEIR CAT HIDING UNDER THE HOOD

ADAM AND EMILY MORCK SAY THEY HOPE THE OWNER OF THE DOGS COMES FORWARD AND HELPS FIND THEIR DOGS AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY -- BUT THE PRIMARY CONCERN IS THAT NO HUMAN OR OTHER ANIMALS ARE HARMED WHILE THESE NOW WILD DOGS ARE RUNNING LOOSE IN DOWNTOWN FOLEY.

Tues - Feb 28, 2012 - A couple is filing an unusual insurance claim after dogs destroyed their minivan.  They were packing for a fishing trip this past weekend when they walked to the car and saw the Dodge symbol was lying on the ground, then they saw the carnage to the front of their car--  VIDEO  --

They called 911 while pondering the possibilities as to what could have done this.  The investigator told them that they believed......DOGS DID IT !!!  THE SHREDDED BUMPER...THE BLOOD...THE DENTS...  THE BITES...THE CLAW MARKS....AND UNUSUAL PAW PRINTS....WERE THE WORK OF A VERY DETERMINED PAIR OF DOGS... THE MORCK'S CAT HAD HID UNDER THE HOOD AND THE DOGS HAD TORN IT APART TO GET TO IT.

Now Animal Control has stated that the dogs were a pair of  PIT BULL/MASTIFF MIXES  that had broken loose from their owners who had left them tied up by a rope at a nearby hospital.  Evidently the dogs have been seen and the white one remains at large, while the red-brown one was shot with a   tranquilizer gun but he was unfazed and also ran away.

Adam Morck says that as soon as they are captured he will be requesting DNA samples to validate the dogs and make sure appropriate parties are held responsible.  He hopes the owners come forward, help find their dogs, and take responsibility.  The Primary concern being that no human or other animals are harmed while these now wild dogs are running loose in downtown Foley.

WATERVILLE ME -1998 -A FLORIDA FAMILY'S PIT BULL ATTACKS THEIR 2 YEAR-OLD BOY WHILE HE WAS GETTING HIS DIAPER CHANGED ??!!!??

Lewiston Maine, Monday, June 29, 1998 - Pit Bull Mauls Toddler (AP)  A 2-year-old boy from Florida who underwent 2 hours of surgery after being mauled by his family's Pit Bull was listed in satisfactory condition Sunday at a Waterville hospital.

Andrew Marnett will likely be able to leave Maine General Medical Center within the next couple of days, said a hospital spokeswoman.

The 35-pound, 1 1/2-year-old, Pit Bull tore off most of Andrew's right ear, mangled his left ear and ripped his arm, shoulder and back before a passerby pulled the dog off, Waterville Police said.  The attack took place at 11:30 am Saturday in the parking lot of the Elm Plaza Shopping Center in Waterville while Andrew and his family were visiting Maine on the flea market circuit, Officer John Weeks said.  Weeks quoted the boys mother, Deborah York, as saying she was changing the baby's diaper in the bedroom of the family's camper trailer --

"THE BABY WAS CRYING AND APPARENTLY THE DOG DOESN'T LIKE THE BABY CRYING."

The boy's father, Arthur Mudd, told Police the dog  ---"had never been aggressive before."

Mudd signed away his rights to the dog so it could be killed.

MIAMI - DADE COUNTY FL - PIT BULL'S HISTORY JUSTIFIES MIAMI-DADE COUNTY BAN - "THE BAN WASN'T JUST FOR NOTHING"

THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY BAN PASSED 6-0.  BUT THE OLD DEBATE HAS RESURFACED THIS WEEK AS A KIND OF STRANGE "CANINE PSEUDO-CIVIL-RIGHTS CAMPAIGN" - EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL BREEDS - EVEN DANGEROUS BREEDS.

Posted Wednesday - Feb. 15, 2012 - by Fred Grimm - The Miami Herald - It wasn't for nothing, the old hands down at county hall would say, recalling the origins of Miami-Dade's Pit bull ban.  The ban was born out of real public revulsion, after one terrible attack after another had been attributed to the breed.

County commissioners back in 1989 were responding to Deaths and Disfigurements and terrible injuries suffered by victims of Pit Bull attacks.  And to outraged owners of other pets torn apart by dogs described as Pit Bulls.  Victims trooped down to the county commission chambers and showed the commissioners their scars and testified about how they were mauled.

The ban passed 6-0.  But the old debate over Pit Bulls has resurfaced this week as a kind of strange canine pseudo-civil-rights campaign.   Equal rights for all breeds.  Even dangerous breeds.  The Miami-Dade County Commission, trying to circumvent a bill in the state Legislature that would force the county to get rid of its dog ordinance (and threaten the county's special home-rule status),  plans to add a referendum to the August ballot that would allow voters, instead, to decide the Pit Bull issue.

It might be worth remembering that the county politicians, who enacted the ban 23 years ago, reacted to public pressure and gut-wrenching testimony.

Pilar Moreira was there the day the ordinance passed, holding the hand of her scarred  and bandaged 8-year-old daughter Melissa.  The mother described how she and 3 other adults struggled to pull a Pit Bull off her daughter and how they were bitten themselves.  A doctor said Melissa's injuries reminded him of war wounds.

Moreira's story followed a decade of brutal dog attacks across South Florida that police blamed  on Pit Bulls.  Civic leaders were convinced that Pit Bull attacks were wildly disproportionate to attacks by other breeds, especially when measured by their severity.  The South Florida campaign against the breeds loosely categorized as Pit Bulls --American Pit Bull Terriers, Bull Terriers, Staffordshire Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers -- probably began in Hollywood Florida  in 1979, when a Pit Bull mauled 6-year-old   FRANKIE SCARBROUGH'S    face and nearly ripped off his scalp.  In early 1980  ETHEL TIGGS  age 71, stepped into the backyard of her Northwest Miami home,  when her own two Pit Bulls suddenly turned on her, maiming and nearly killing her before policemen shot them dead.  Ten days later, in Carol City, a Pit Bull bit off the thumb of James Harris as he tried, futilely, to save his dachshund from its jaws.

GEORGE  CUARTAS, 16, of Miami, told commissioners a bike ride turned into a nightmare when 3 Pit bulls jumped him 5 years ago.  He lost part of his leg in the attack.

There was a serious attack on a letter carrier  LOUISE JOHNSON  in 1985.  And a woman was nearly killed by 4 Pit Bulls a few months later.

Then, in 1984, a Pit Bull in Davie leaped into a crib and killed  9-week-old  DANIEL LLOYD SMITH..  More attacks followed..  South Florida cities reacted with their own anti-Pit Bull ordinances (several of which were overturned in court for being too vague).  Broward County outlawed the Breed after County Commissioner Howard Forman noted that the 972 registered Pit Bulls in the County had been responsible for 192 reported attacks --a rate 8 times higher than the average for other dogs.

Then the National Centers for Disease  Control and Prevention published a 9-year-study of dog attacks that blamed Pit Bulls for 42 percent of the human deaths caused by dogs each year in the U.S.  The CDC report noted:  "We do not believe that Pit Bulls represent anywhere near 42 percent of the dogs in the United States."  The danger from Pit Bulls, the CDC concluded, "IS REAL AND INCREASING."

A statewide poll in 1989 found that 54 percent of Floridians favored  a ban on Pit Bulls.  In South Flforida, the percentage would have been much higher.  The day the ban passed, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Joe Gersten said:

"IF WE CAN SAVE THE LIFE OF ONE CHILD OR STOP AN INNOCENT VICTIM FROM BEING MAIMED FOR LIFE BECAUSE OF THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE, THEN I FEEL THE COMMISSION HAS DONE SOMETHING."

In 1990, a state law, pushed by the American Kennel Club and some rural legislators, prohibited cities and counties from new "breed specific" legislation.   Pit Bull owners had complained about prejudice and discrimination based on a  few sensational anecdotes.  Anti-Pit Bull ordinances across the state were undone.  Only Miami-Dade County, with its constitutionally protected home-rule status, kept its ban.

AND NOW THAT LAST ORDINANCE COULD BE UNDONE BY FORGETFUL VOTERS IN A REFERENDUM THIS AUGUST.......BUT  THEY SHOULD BE MINDFUL.....THE BAN WASN'T JUST FOR NOTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!!

MIAMI - DADE COUNTY FL - FEBRUARY 1989 - ONE OF THE NEIGHBOR'S MANY PIT BULLS ESCAPES A PEN AND GOES STRAIGHT FOR 7-YEAR-OLD MELISSA MOREIRA GETTING OUT OF HER CAR

IT FIRST KNOCKED THE CHILD OVER AND RIPPED AT HER HEAD. HER MOTHER FUTILELY TRIES TO PULL IT AWAY.  THE PIT SLASHES HER ARM.  THE GRANDMOTHER RUSHES OUT AND TRIES TO HELP --IT SEVERS HER NOSE.  A NEIGHBOR TRIES TO WRESTLE THE PIT OFF MELISSA.  THE DOG BITES HIS HAND AND THEN  TURNS BACK ON THE CHILD .....

Melissa's Mom, Pilar, holding a picture of Melissa
Her arm was severely injured.

THE PIT BULL SEEMS OBLIVIOUS TO HUMAN EFFORTS TO DISLODGE HIM FROM THE GIRL.  AND IN THAT FRENZIED MOMENT, THE ANIMAL PERFECTLY REFLECTS THE CREATURE THAT WOULD BE DESCRIBED IN THE DADE COUNTY ORDINANCE A FEW MONTHS LATER:

*WHEREAS, TO INCREASE ITS EFFECTIVENESS AS A FIGHTER, CERTAIN PIT BULL TRAITS HAVE BEEN SELECTED AND MAXIMIZED BY CONTROLLED BREEDING, INCLUDING

  1.  A SET OF POWERFUL JAWS WITH AN EXCEPTIONAL ABILITY TO GRIP, LOCK AND TEAR WHEN THE DOG BITES.

  2.  A UNIQUE INSENSITIVITY TO PAIN THAT CAUSES PIT BULLS TO BE EXCEEDINGLY TENACIOUS IN THE ATTACK.

  3.  AN UNUSUALLY AGGRESSIVE TEMPERAMENT TOWARDS HUMAN BEINGS AND ANIMALS, AND

  4.  AN EXTRAORDINARY DIRECTNESS IN THEIR METHOD OF ATTACK THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE COMMON WARNING SIGNS SUCH AS BARKING OR GROWLING DISPLAYED BY OTHER BREEDS.

Nothing deters the dog until Melissa's mother, Pilar, has the presence of mind to throw a canvas car cover over the frenzied animal.  Then  "A HERO".....A NEIGHBOR CAME RUNNING UP WITH A PISTOL AND SHOOTS THE DOG ---- 4 TIMES ----BEFORE KILLING IT !!!!!!!

MELISSA HAD LOST  HER LOWER LIP AND HER FACE SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN RIPPED AWAY FROM HER SKULL.  AS THEY RUSHED HER INSIDE THE HOUSE, PIECES OF HER SCALP FELL TO THE FLOOR.  BOTH ARMS HAD BEEN SAVAGED.  SHE WAS TAKEN TO KENDALL REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER WITH LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES.

*******************************************************

OVER THE NEXT MONTHS 8 SURGERIES WOULD BE REQUIRED TO RECONSTRUCT HER FACE.

*******************************************************
HER MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER BOTH UNDERGO SURGERIES WITH HOSPITAL BILLS EXCEEDING $50,000.

*******************************************************

23 years later, Melissa's Mom, Pilar, says her child still carries the physical scars but recovered, at least psychologically, better than her mother. THE HORROR OF NOT BEING ABLE TO PULL THAT RELENTLESS DOG OFF HER LITTLE GIRL STILL HAUNTS HER.

The Florida Legislature, led by Rep. Carlos Trujillo of Miami, seems bent on undoing Miami-Dade's ban on PIT BULLS.  They have ignored an offer by the Miami-Dade Commission to, instead, ALLOW COUNTY VOTERS TO DECIDE WHETHER TO RETAIN THE PIT BULL BAN IN A REFERENDUM.

PILAR SAID, "WHEN I HEARD THIS I WAS VERY, VERY ANGRY.  DON'T THEY KNOW HOW DANGEROUS THESE DOGS ARE?  WHAT KIND OF DAMAGE THEY CAN DO?  BEFORE WE HAD THIS BAN, PEOPLE HAD TO PAY SO MUCH, FINANCIALLY, EMOTIONALLY, PSYCHOLOGICALLY, BECAUSE OF THESE DOGS.  DON'T THEY KNOW?"

DUBAI - AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER KILLED A POODLE AT THE DUBAI PET SHOW - "THEY THINK THEY CAN CONTROL THEIR DOGS BUT WHEN ONE OF THESE BREEDS DECIDES TO ATTACK THERE ISN'T A MAN ON THIS PLANET WHO CAN STOP IT !!!

Pluto, the 6-year-old toy poodle that was savaged on Friday at the Pedigree and Whiskas Dubai Pet Show.

FAMILY MOURNS POODLE KILLED AT DUBAI PET SHOW

A 6-year-old Poodle name "PLUTO" was savaged by an American Staffordshire Terrier at the Pedigree and Whiskas Dubai Pet show on Friday, February 3.   Dr. Nazanin Karimian from Iran  was visiting the show with her husband and 2 children and their pet Poodle when it was killed.  She said they intended to file a complaint to the Municipality about the owner of the dog that killed Pluto and about the organisers of the show.  She said, "They did not screen the dogs that are dangerous.  Even kids could be victims of these dogs.  Such a Dangerous Breed should be avoided in a public place.

IT COULD HAVE BEEN A CHILD

Volunteers manning the entry points at the Dubai Pet Show said they felt overpowered and helpless in stopping owners of large dogs who refused to muzzle their pets and forced their way in despite repeated requests.

Hours after a Poodle was killed in a deadly attack by an unmuzzled American Staffordshire Terrier at the show, Lola Lopez, founder of the NGO Volunteers in UAE, which manned the points, said:

"The organisers have to come up with a solution to this problem before it's a child that's killed !  Volunteers weren't told during the morning briefing that certain dogs had to be muzzled, so hundreds of breeds known for being randomly and unexpectedly dangerous had been allowed in.  Having said that, once the organisers gave me the list of dogs (I asked for it after the poodle incident) I passed the information on to our volunteers at the main gate.  People still refused to put on a muzzle and forced their way inside.  They barged their way through with Pit Bulls and Rottweilers without muzzles and they were refusing to stop.  They got verbally aggressive with my volunteers.  I must have seen about 100 dogs in there that were on the dangerous dogs list without muzzles."

TUSCUMBIA AL - DIRECTOR OF COLBERT COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER TOMMY MORSON SAYS THAT "DROPOFFS" HAVE TURNED THE FACILITY INTO A DEATH ROW FOR DOGS

DEAD DOG WALKING !!! MORSON WANTS PEOPLE TO KNOW HOW DEADLY SERIOUS THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN. IN THE YEAR 2011 THE SHELTER HAD TO EUTHANIZE MORE THAN 2,500 ANIMALS !!!

Tommy Morson

Weds - Feb 22, 2012 -VIDEO AND  STORY  by Greg Privett - WAAYTV - Huntsville

"We're running probably a ration of 50 percent," says Tommy Morson, the Director of Colbert County Animal Control.  "The shelter is packed with unwanted pets.  We've got at least 2 in every kennel.  Someone dumped 10 puppies at the door before the shelter opened for business this morning !  It's sad.  Look at that little puppy.  How could you get rid of something like that.  It makes me mad is what it does.  If people will do what they're supposed to do ......

SPAY AND NEUTER ANIMALS,  KEEP THEM UP.....

We wouldn't have this problem. ----THERE'S A FREEZER FULL  OF BODY BAGS  THESE ARE DEAD ANIMALS....AND ANOTHER FREEZER......PROBABLY 25 IN THERE.....NOW THAT'S ALREADY BEEN EMPTIED.  THIS WAS EMPTY WHEN WE STARTED MONDAY MORNING."

"CONVENIENT AND EASY.  THAT'S WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK ABOUT DROPPING OFF AN UNWANTED PET. BUT, THE WORD "EASY" IS NOT IN THE VOCABULARY OF SHELTER EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE TO INJECT POISON INTO AN ANIMAL'S VEINS."

"IT TAKES 2 PEOPLE TO DO IT.  ONE'S HOLDING AND ONE'S EUTHANIZING.  WE FIRST GIVE TRANQUILIZERS, THEN INJECT THEM WITH SODIUM PENTOBARBITAL.  TO HAVE TO STICK THAT NEEDLE IN IT AND END ITS LIFE, BECAUSE OF SOME IDIOT OUT THERE......

"90 % OF PEOPLE COULD TAKE CARE OF THEIR ANIMALS IF THAT'S WHAT THEY REALLY WANTED," MORSON STATES. "WE HAVE A SAYING. WE DON'T HAVE A PET PROBLEM, WE HAVE A PEOPLE PROBLEM."

COMMENT:  THE PEOPLE PROBLEM INCLUDE THOSE IN CITY AND COUNTY GOVERNMENTS WHO DO NOT VOTE IN LAWS TO STOP BREEDERS. COULD IT BE THAT IT'S CHEAPER TO KILL ALL THESE ANIMALS THAN IT IS TO STOP THE OVER BREEDING ???  AND YOU CAN NOT  STOP THE KILLING UNTIL YOU STOP THE OVER BREEDING !!!

SIOUX CITY IA - THE OWNER OF PIT BULL THAT ATTACKED 2 PEOPLE IS CHARGED

"YOU CAN NOT BRING DOGS IN FROM OTHER COUNTIES OR CITIES EVEN IF THEY ARE LEGAL IN THOSE CITIES.  THEY ARE NOT REGISTERED HERE THEREFORE THEY ARE ILLEGAL HERE."

Mejia faces these charges:

*OWNING A DOG WITH NO RABIES VACCINE
*ILLEGALLY OWNING A PIT BULL IN CITY LIMITS
*HAVING A VICIOUS DOG

TEMPE AZ - MOM LEAVES 3 SMALL KIDS AND A PIT BULL HOME ALONE - PIT BITES ONE OF THE KIDS IN THE FACE !!!

Fri - Feb 24, 2012 - Police report that Yvette Ayala, 26, left her kids, ages 1, 5, and 7, at her Tempe apartment on Saturday for over five hours. Ayala and her boyfriend Jeremy Castillo both left home because they had to work, and they didn't arrange any child care.  They allegedly contacted a neighbor asking her to watch their children, but never heard back.

While the children were home alone, the 5-year-old was bitten by the family dog - a 1 1/2-year-old Pit Bull Terrier named Charger.  The dog bit the child on his cheek and right ear.  The boy then left the apartment by himself, and the apartment manager found him and called 911. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Tempe for treatment.

Ayala later told police her neighbor was watching her children, and allegedly texted her neighbor, asking her to lie and say she was watching them.  But the 7-year-old told officers they were home alone and had a bologna sandwich for breakfast.  Faced with these facts, Ayala admitted she left the apartment knowing her children were unsupervised and asked her neighbor to lie to police.  She was booked into the Tempe City Jail.  She is facing child abuse charges.   STORY AND VIDEO

FLORIDA - DOG ATTACKS WOMAN AT A DOG SHOW IN MELBOURNE FL - JURY AWARDED HER 1.26 MILLION !!!

Marie Tatman's left foot was barely attached after a vicious dog attack.

Thurs - Feb 23, 2012 - Marie Tatman, now 75, was walking through Melbourne's Wickham Park during a dog show on March 25, 2007.  Her daughter was showing a Boston Terrier.  She walked by a 100 pound AKITA named "Eli"  and the dog went for her grabbing her ankle and would not let go....crushing her ankle...almost severing her foot. It was left dangling !!!

It took nearly five years.  A jury deliberated the verdict Tuesday after 7 days of trial. The money will help cover past medical bills from five surgeries after the attack. as well as additional bills. Because of the gruesome injury, her left leg is now three inches shorter than her right.  The money also will help compensate the couple for expenses incurred because of Marie Tatman's physical limitations.

But for Tatman, the judgment meant more than financial compensation.

IT'S BEEN GOOD FOR HER TO HEAR THE JURY SAY IT'S NOT HER FAULT....TO SAY IT'S THE FAULT OF THE OWNER.

The dog's owner, Sally Jaffe, lives in Mims Florida.  Jaffe had tried to blame Tatman for the attack saying she'd tripped over the dog.  But......the dog had a history of violence.

It was born to a Minnesota breeder then sold to an Illinois woman.  According to a Brevard County Animal Services and Enforcement investigation, the dog twice bit a man in Illinois, bit another person at a Wisconsin dog show as it was being sent back to the breeder, and then bit the breeder's neighbor.

An independent evaluation showed the dog was dangerous and shouldn't be placed back in a home.  But the breeder claimed neighbor's did not object to sending the dog to Florida if it was kept on a large rural property.  Eli ended up with Jaffe in Mims.

The Akita was euthanized and court records show Jaffe was found guilty of a citation punishable by a $500 fine.  Jaffe and her attorneys have 30 days to appeal the ruling.

ALABAMA STATE LEGISLATURE TO CONSIDER ONCE AGAIN BILL ON COCKFIGHTING

THE BILL WILL BE INTRODUCED IN THE SESSION THAT BEGINS FEBRUARY 7 TO INCREASE THE PENALTY FOR COCKFIGHTING FROM A $50 FINE TO A  --- $6,000 --- FINE,  AND AS MUCH AS A YEAR BEHIND BARS.

February 23, 2012 - The bill is being  pushed by the Humane Society of the U.S., which also is trying to slow down an advocacy group that is fighting the legislation. THE HUMANE SOCIETY HAS ASKED THE ALABAMA ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE TO INVESTIGATE WHY THE ALABAMA GAMEFOWL BREEDERS ASSOCIATION IS LISTED WITH THE STATE AS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION.

Mindy Gilbert, state director for Humane Society of the U.S., said the Gamefowl Breeders Association can't be nonprofit when it promotes an illegal activity.

Former state Rep. Ken Guin, a Carbon Hill attorney, has been hired to represent the Alabama Gamefowl Breeders Association during the session.  Guin said the organization will fight the bill.  He said the Gamefowl Breeders are a legitimate nonprofit organization that raises the birds, mostly to be shipped out of state and often out of the country.  He said many of the birds are raised to show in events similar to dog shows. He says breeding the birds is a big industry in the state.

The bill will be sponsored by Republican Rep. Jim Barton of Mobile in the House and by Republican Sen. Cam Ward of Alabaster in the Senate.

WARD SAID ONE OF THE REASONS WHY NEW LEGISLATION IS NEEDED IS THAT OTHER STATES HAVE ADOPTED STIFFER PENALTIES FOR COCKFIGHTING......

"SO MANY STATES ARE CLAMPING DOWN ON THIS SO THEY ARE COMING TO ALABAMA TO DO IT,"  WARD SAID.

He also said in addition to the cruelty to animals issue, there is concern about the large amounts of money that are bet on cockfighting and the concern that the birds could spread diseases.

Gilbert said it's not uncommon for one of the birds involved in a cockfight to die in the ring.  She said often sharp objects are attached to their talons before the fights.

"YOUNG CHILDREN HAVE BEEN FOUND AT THESE SITES HANDLING THE BIRDS.  CHILDREN HAVE BEEN FOUND ACTIVELY GAMBLING.  FIGHTS ARE SOMETIMES STAGED IN ARENAS WITH SCOREBOARDS AND A PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM."

ST. AUGUSTINE FL - 2 PIT BULLS RELEASED ON OFFICERS SERVING A SEARCH WARRANT- ONE OFFICER BIT - PITS WERE SHOT - THEN 2 MORE PIT BULLS WERE RELEASED ON THEM !!!

Thurs Feb 23, 2012 - Members of the St. Johns Sheriff's Office served a search warrant to a home on the 6400 block of San Pietro Isle in reference to an alleged meth lab. Due to prior instances involving flight from law enforcement and previous reports of dog bites at the residence, a SWAT team was assembled to assist with serving the warrant.

After using a Public Address system to get the occupants to come out of the home, an individual allegedly yelled, "THEY ARE COMING OUT."  THE DOOR OPENED AND  -- 2 PIT BULLS WERE RELEASED AND THE DOOR WAS CLOSED WITH NO ONE FROM THE RESIDENCE COMING OUT.

A deputy was bitten in the leg and both dogs were shot......THEN   -- 2 MORE PIT BULLS WERE RELEASED ON DEPUTIES.  One was shot and one ran into nearby woods.  Deputies and Animal Control are continuing to search for the missing dog.

FORT WAYNE IN - A PIT BULL AND A PIT BULL MIX WENT ON A RAMPAGE - 3 INJURED - HERO - MAURICE ELEY SAVES THE 11-YEAR-OLD BOY

UPDATE WITH VIDEO
____________________________

Weds - Feb 22, 2012 - Maurice Eley was driving down Wiebke Street on Wednesday afternoon about 3 pm when he saw a boy being attacked by 2 dogs.  He didn't even hesitate. He pulled over and headed into the vacant  lot where the children had been playing picking up a glass bottle from the ground, he charged in.  The dogs quickly turned from the boy to the 50-year-old Eley, biting him on both legs.

They found out later that the dogs had just attacked a woman in her 70's at Brownlee and Son's Grocery just around the block.  According to owner Thomas Brownlee, Virgie Banks was just walking down the street when one of the dogs took a serious bite out of her leg. She was able to get away and make it into Brownlee's store. The bite was down to the bone!

When Fort Wayne Police and Animal Control Officers arrived on the scene, they shot the dogs.

OFFICERS ON THE SCENE SAID HAD ELEY NOT STOPPED, THING COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE FOR THE BOY.

All 3 victims were transported to a local hospital.  So far officials don't know who the dogs' owner is. Criminal charges will likely be pressed.  However, the investigation is still ongoing.  Under Indiana code, the charge would be a Class C misdemeanor, described in the law as occurring when an owner recklessly, knowingly, or intentionally failed to take steps to restrain his dogs, and as a result of the owner's failure to restrain the dog, the dog bites or attacks another person without provocation resulting in injury.

One dog is described as a 2-year-old male PIT BULL - white with light tan markings.  The other dog is believed to be under 1 year old and was mainly brown with a few markings like a beagle.  It could be a Pit Bull/ Beagle Mix.  Any help the public can give in identifying the owner of the dogs would be very helpful.

KALISPELL MT- FATHER OF 7-YR-OLD GIRL ATTACKED BY 4 AMERICAN BULLDOGS ON DECEMBER 31 FACES DRUG CHARGES

Three people, Jonathon Banonis, Timothy Standiford and Rachael Clarke,  have been charged on February 14, 2012, with felony criminal manufacture of dangerous drugs and arrest warrants were issued.  This all came about after a vicious dog attack on a 7-year-old girl on December 31, 2011.

After the dog attack, Emergency responders were told to meet Standiford, Clarke, and the injured girl at Creston School.   Standiford at firsts refused to say where the child had been attacked, but later directed them to his house.  Officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from a shop and obtained a search warrant.  They found 71 marijuana plants along with marijuana.

The girl, who sustained extensive injuries from the 4 AMERICAN BULLDOGS,  said she and Clarke had been in the shop before she was attacked.
An investigation found Jonathon Banonis, the girl's father, was the leaseholder on the property and that he had subleased it to Standiford and cloarke. They had been friends for many years and moved together from North Carolina to Montana.

Sheriff Chuck curry said he believes the three left the area very soon after the attack.  They may face other charges.  The possibility of some sort of harboring a vicious animal charge is possible

A 12-year-old boy, Joshua Okware, was severely bitten by a dog as he was using the school latrine or toliet. .The boy was found lying in a pool of blood and the dog had  BITTEN AND EATEN HIS TESTICLES.  He had sustained extensive perineal injury to the glands, penile shaft, and scrotum.

THE DOG BELONGED TO A BAR OWNER, SIMON OWINO OTIM.

His father, John Henry Okumu, rushed the boy to Mbale Regional hospital immediately, but they were forced to return home after failing to meet the costs of treatment there....But the next day the victim was rushed to Tororo main hospital for treatment when his condition started to deteriorate.

Plan Tororo, a local Non-governmental Organization (NGO) made an immediate intervention by providing logistics support to transport the victim to Mulago in Kampala. The NGO's intervention follows an appeal by Okumu to all Good Samaritans to come to his rescue since he was financially handicapped.

The officer-in-charge of criminal investigation at Tororo Police Station, Milton Birungi , said Otim, the dog owner, has been arrested.  Birungi explained that the suspect will be brought before court and charged with rash and negligence once the resident state attorney sanctions his file.

SYDENHAM KWAZULA NATAL SOUTH AFRICA - ALLAN LORTON, 65, WAS MAULED FOR MORE THAN 45 MINUTES BY HIS NEIGHBOR'S AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER - HE SUCCUMBED TO HIS INJURIES - ARMS WERE SHREDDED

LINDA LORTON, HIS WIDOW, SAYS SHE FEELS NO ANIMOSITY TOWARDS HER NEIGHBOR, THE OWNER OF THE PIT BULL THAT MAULED HER HUSBAND TO DEATH. BUT SHE WOULD SUPPORT A PIT BULL BAN - SAYING......"OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD IS FULL OF THEM.  THEY HAVE BECOME LIKE A  'FASHION STATEMENT'.  THERE IS A LOT OF ILLEGAL FIGHTING WITH PIT BULLS, BUT THE POLICE TURN A BLIND EYE.  I  DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ANY OTHER FAMILY."

Sun - Feb 19, 2012 - Allan Lorton, 65, died at his Knight Road Home in Sydenham after an attack that lasted more than 45 minutes.  Traumatised neighbours who witnessed the tragedy said they were too afraid to intercede and feared the dog would turn on them.  The animal, owned by neighbour Erthney Abrahams, was eventually shot by police.

"I DON'T BLAME ERTHNEY AT ALL.  SHE WOULD NEVER HAVE KEPT A DOG SHE THOUGHT MIGHT BE CAPABLE OF HURTING SOMEONE," SAID LORTON. "SHE IS IN A TERRIBLE STATE, AND I DON'T WANT THE MEDIA TO PESTER HER."

Mrs. Lorton says that the neighbors Pit Bull had made a hole under the fence, but her husband had sealed it off.  He had gone out with his 3 toy Pomeranians that he regarded as his babies.  when the Pit Bull appeared in their yard,  he managed to shove his dogs back into the house and close the back door, but he did not get back in.  She says that her husband knew the Pit Bull well and always greeted it when he passed their house.

Neighbours were alerted to Allan's screams and came to hurl roof tiles and other objects at the slavering animal  to try and get it to release him.  The Police were called, but she feels both they and the ambulance services took too much time to respond.  But despite heedless shots fired by  Police to scare off the dog, it continued to maul the man and they were forced to kill it.

*************************************************

THE OWNER OF THE DOG WAS ON THE SCENE AND ALL ATTEMPTS TO STOP THE ATTACK WERE IN VAIN.

*************************************************

An inquest docket has been registered to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, while a criminal case docket has been registered to investigate the keeping of a ferocious dog.

Linda Lorton was working at the time and was called  and she got there as fast as she could, but.....

*************************************************

"I WAS JUST IN TIME TO HOLD HIM AS HE PASSED AWAY. HE WAS HOLDING FAST TO THE DOG'S COLLAR WITH BOTH HANDS.  HIS EYES STARTED ROLLING BACK INTO HIS HEAD AND I SAID - COME SWEETIE, LET'S GET YOU UP - AND THEN HE WAS GONE.  HIS ARMS HAD BEEN SHREDDED.

**************************************************

Although she says she bears no animosity,  she would support the banning of PIT BULLS.

LAST MONTH CBS13 REPORTED ABOUT A 3-YEAR-OLD BOY HOSPITALIZED AFTER A VICIOUS PIT BULL ATTACK. THE BOY'S FATHER CLAIMS IT WAS A STRAY.... IT TURNS OUT HE WAS LYING.  THE DOG WAS HIS.

Sat - Feb 18, 2012 - Animal Control says something didn't seem right when officers spoke to the little boy's dad, JOSH LEWIS,  about the attack.  but it wasn't until the story aired on CBS13 that the truth finally came out.  Animal Control Officer Ruben Hernandez said that tips began coming in about this situation.  The tips led to uncovering the father's lies.

The father's behavior was very suspicious from the beginning.  "He didn't act like a parent that had their child attacked by a stray dog." And when animal control found a dog matching the descriptionn of the pit bull Lewis had described, he began changing his story.  He changed his story a few times as to the description and the location of the dog.

"I did so they would go away, but I mean technically it isn't my dog," he said.  He has now told  Animal Control that he got rid of the dog somewhere in Rio Linda after it bit his son.  He said he was fearful about the dog being picked up and the cost associated with it. He has now been cited for the incident and could face up to a year in jail if convicted.

HIS JUGULAR WAS SHREDDED. THE  ***PIECE OF MEAT*** WAS COVERED IN DIRT WHERE IT HAD BEEN PULLED AND DRAGGED......THE CHILD WAS SIMPLY WALKING DOWN THE STREET GOING HOME.

 ****************************************
COLLINS IS SERVING A FIVE-YEAR SENTENCE IN THE CASE.
HE ALSO WAS REQUIRED TO PAY FOR THE BOY'S FUNERAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*****************************************
IN THEIR OPINION TO OVERTURN THE JURY'S VERDICT AT THE TRIAL COURT LEVEL, THE APPELLATE JUDGES WROTE THAT CIRCUIT COURT JUDGE PAUL BURCH ERRED WHEN HE ALLOWED 10 PRE-AUTOPSY PHOTOS OF THE CHILD'S PARTIALLY EATEN BODY TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO JURORS.

"BECAUSE WE FIND THE TRIAL COURT ABUSED ITS DISCRETION IN ADMITTING THE PHOTOS, WE REVERSE AND REMAND FOR A NEW TRIAL,"  WROTE CHIEF JUDGE JOHN C. FEW IN THE MAJORITY OPINION. JUDGES PAULA H. THOMAS AND APHRODITE K. KONDUROS CONCURRED WITH THE OPINION.

THE ISSUES OF THE PRE-AUTOPSY PHOTOS WAS RAISED AT THE ORIGINAL TRIAL.  THE PROSECUTION ARGUED THEN THAT THE PROBATIVE VALUE OF THE PHOTOS WAS PRIMARILY TO ESTABLISH THAT THE DOGS' ATTACK ON THE BOY WAS UNPROVOKED.

THE STATE'S THEORY WAS THAT COLLINS UNDERFED THE DOGS AND BECAUSE THEY WERE HUNGRY THEY BECAME AGGRESSIVE.  THEREFORE, SAID PROSECUTION COUNSEL,  THE PHOTOS WERE NEEDED BY THE PATHOLOGIST TO SHOW THAT THE DOGS ACTUALLY ATE THE BOY,  AND TO CORROBORATE THE TESTIMONY OF THE DOG BEHAVIOR EXPERT CALLED BY THE STATE.

******************************************
THE PHOTOGRAPHS HE SHOWED THE JURY WERE SO DISTURBING THAT ONE FEMALE JUROR BECAME VISIBLY SHAKEN AND BEGAN TO CRY AND A BRIEF RECESS WAS CALLED.

*******************************************

State Law Enforcement Division agent Vicki Hallman responded to the scene the night of Matthew's death.  She told the court she saw 6 dogs on the porch of the home with no food or water..............That night deputies knocked on Collins' door and it appeared no one was home...so deputies left a note ....Collins talked  with deputies later and told them:

OAK HARBOR WA - 3 PIT BULLS CHARGED OUT AN APARTMENT DOOR AND MAULED A 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL

Tank, a pit bull involved in the attack of a girl last week, is also accused of attacking a man in November. - --
A SECOND PERSON HAS COME FORWARD TO SAY HE WAS ATTACKED BY THE SAME PIT BULL - TANK - THAT WAS ONE OF THREE PIT BULLS THAT ATTACKED A 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL.

UPDATE: Sat - Feb 18, 2012 - A second person has come forward to say he was attacked by the same Pit bull that was one of three dogs to attack an Oak Harbor girl last week.  The father of the 12-year-old girl attacked by 3 Pit Bulls on February 5 says that it is a "PARENT'S WORST NIGHTMARE."  Merl Naumowicz is an active duty member of the Navy stationed in Nebraska.  He took an emergency medical leave and flew to Whidbey after learning about the attack on his daughter.

The father says her right hand and forearm were most severely injured since she was using it to stop the dogs from biting her face.  Her thumb was so damaged the doctors weren't sure they could save it and she still doesn't have feeling in the thumb. She was also bitten on her other hand and her feet, and serious scratch marks on her chest and her lip.

Naumowicz says that he has heard unconfirmed reports that the dogs have bitten on 3 previous occasions that weren't reported to police.....

*************************************************
HE SAID THAT HIS DAUGHTER HAS BEEN AT THE HOME BEFORE AND THE DOGS KNEW HER.
*************************************************
He says that his 19-year-old daughter drove his younger daughter to an apartment on Midway Blvd. to pick up a vacuum.  He said a child inside the apartment opened the door and let the dogs out --all 3 dogs attacked the girl at the same time.  He was told that the owner promised to have the dogs euthanized.

**************************************************

MEANWHILE, OAK HARBOR RESIDENT  CARLOS SMITH  SAW THE STORY ABOUT THE GIRL'S ATTACK AND SAID SOMETHING SIMILAR HAPPENED TO HIM LAST NOVEMBER WHEN HE VISITED THE SAME APARTMENT.

"I GOT ATTACKED BY THE SAME DOG - THE MALE DOG  - TANK."

**************************************************
He said he went to the apartment to visit the boyfriend of the woman living there, who was a friend of his. Two of the dogs were in cages but Tank came running toward him from a back room and bit into his hand.  He never called Police --- BECAUSE THE GUY WAS CRYING , 'DON'T CALL THE COPS ON ME',   but he did go to the hospital.  He received 13 stitches in his hand, but says he still suffers nerve damage and he's still paying off the $4,000 hospital bill.  He says he lost his job because he can't extend 2 of his fingers.

AFTER READING ABOUT THE ATTACK ON THE GIRL, SMITH DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO ACT.  "I'M GOING TO FILE A LAWSUIT," HE SAID.
