WILDOMAR CA - PIT BULL INVADES A BACKYARD AND KILLS A FAMILY'S BELOVED 1-YEAR-OLD CHIHUAHUA "JERSEY" - DONALD MASON SHOT IT TO DEATH AND NOW HE IS ON A MISSION !!!!!!!

"I'M NOT EVEN MESSING AROUND WITH THIS.  IT'S A MISSION.  MY DAUGHTER CALLS IT  'JUSTICE FOR JERSEY'.  I SHOULD NOT, IN FRONT OF MY FAMILY, HAVE TO EXECUTE A DOG IN MY BACKYARD."

Mar 31, 2012 - DONALD MASON  pumped a  PIT BULL  full last week after it slipped into his backyard and killed his family's Chihuahua.

"I DEFINITELY WAS NOT GOING TO LET IT OFF OF THIS PROPERTY.  I GOT MY 9MM,"  SAID THE MILITARY POLICE OFFICER WITH THE CALIFORNIA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD AND FORMER U.S. MARINE.

Mason, 48, said roaming Pit Bulls have become a problem at The Farm, a sprawling neighborhood off Bundy Canyon Road.  Mason said he believes the Pit Bull he shot Tuesday was tshe same one that attacked a woman and her dog elsewhere in the neighborhood in recent weeks.  On Wednesday night, Mason said he saw another Pit Bull running loose on his street.

Patricia Mason said she was washing her car in the driveway Tuesday when she noticed a white streak pass by out of the corner of her eye.  She didn't give it a second thought, until she heard the sound of her 11-year-old daughrer's Chihuahua, Jersey, being attacked in the backyard.  By the time Donald Mason could make it out, the Pit Bull had dropped the Chihuahua and was looking through the door at his wife.

*************************************************************************

HE RETRIEVED HIS GUN AND FIRED TWO SHOTS AT THE DOG........

BUT IT DIDN'T SEEM TO FASE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE DOG WAS LARGER THAN A TYPICAL PIT BULL... APPEARED TO BE PART MASTIFF.

IT TOOK AT LEAST 6 SHOTS TO FELL THE DOG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*************************************************************************

JERSEY died before they could make it out of the neighborhood.  Donald Mason said his daughter had begged for a Chihuahua for a year and Jersey was her first dog.  That was her dream com true.  Jersay would have turned ONE on April 2 and they were planning a birthday party. Jersey was the nicest, sweetest animal you can imagine.

"ALL IT EVER DID WAS LOVE EVERYBODY IN THE HOUSE."

Animal Control Officers have not identified the owner of the Pit Bull. Meanwhile, Mason has been researching Pit Bull attacks.  He has written a letter he plans to send to state legislators.  He thinks that California needs more stringent laws regarding Pit Bulls.  "I'm not even messing around with this.  It's my mission."

STATEN ISLAND NY - SILIVE.COM EDITORIAL - A BREED APART - PIT BULLS ARE ESTIMATED TO CAUSE OVER ONE QUARTER OF ALL DOG BITES IN THE CITY - FAR MORE THAN ANY OTHER BREED

"SOMETIMES NO AMOUNT OF SOCIALIZATION CAN OVERCOME ANIMAL INSTINCTS. FOR SAFETY'S SAKE, PLEASE BE WARY OF THEIR AGGRESSIVE INSTINCTS."

Sat - Mar 31, 2012 - Editorial from silive.com - It was a horrowing attack that ought to raise a red flag yet again over the potential for violence in  PIT BULLS . A Probation Officer shot and killed one of her 2 Pit Bulls after the pet attacked her inside her Mariners Harbor home. She was trying to stop the dogs from fighting.

Capable of being fierce and volatile, Pit Bulls are estimated to cause over one quarter of all dog bites in the city, far more than any other breed.  Several hundred bites by Pit Bulls are commonly reported every year. This has created a furor over whether the dogs ought to be tolerated as usually docile and loyal pets or perhaps be forced off our streets as a public menace.

PIT BULLS are banned in more than 100 cities and towns across the country, including Miami and Denver.  They are prohibited by New York City's public housing system. According to the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Pit Bulls killed 66 people nationwide from 1979 to 1998, leading all dog breeds in causing fatalities.

On Staten Island, the case of a 90-YEAR-OLD WORLD WAR II VET HENRY PIOTROWSKI  MAULED TO DEATH IN 2008 BY 2 PIT BULLS   became a flashpoint in the longstanding debate over the breed.  A co-owner of those dogs was sentenced to three years in jail.

More recently, the Island co-owner of a  PIT BULL  THAT HAD MAULED 2 FEMALE VICTIMS IN SEPARATE ATTACKS   was sentenced in November to spend three years in jail.

ANSONIA CT - PIT BULL DRAMA OF THE MONTH - POLICE GET 911 CALL THAT A WHITE PIT BULL HAD SERIOUSLY ATTACKED SOMEONE AT A CERTAIN ADDRESS AND IS ROAMING.....WHERE ARE THOSE RESPONSIBLE PIT BULL OWNERS ???????

OFFICERS ARRIVE AND SEE WHAT THEY BELIEVE TO BE AN AGGRESSIVE WHITE PIT BULL AT THE ADDRESS......THEY SHOOT IT.....BUT NO !!!!!

The white PIT BULL NAMED "ICE"  WAS NOT THE DOG THAT ATTACKED THE MAN IN THE HOUSE....THAT DOG -- NAMED  "ZEUS" -- WAS STILL INSIDE THE HOUSE AT THE ADDRESS WHERE THE ATTACK TOOK PLACE.......

On March 4, 2012, The Ansonia  Police Department received a call from an area resident who stated that there was a  PIT BULL  roaming in the area and had already attacked someone inside a house.

On arriving  at the address the officers were told an adult  male had been attacked and had already left to go to a hospital for treatment.  A white PIT BULL was running back and forth frantically on the hill behind the residence.  When they attempted to approach the dog to snare it, it growled and barked aggressively.  The decision was made to dispatch it in the front yard  where there was a safe back stop to discharge the pistol.

WHERE ARE THOSE RESPONSIBLE PIT BULL OWNERS ??????????

Then a call was received from the victim - Steed Kaliszewski - saying that he was  ------

"WATCHING THE PITS FOR THEIR RESPONSIBLE OWNERS"

WHILE THEY ARE IN NEW JERSEY PICKING UP MORE RESCUE PITS.......HE WAS NOT ATTACKED BY THE WHITE PIT BULL THAT WAS SHOT.....HE WAS ATTACKED BY ---

"THE GREY PIT WITH THE WHITE FACE AND THE BLUE EYES"

Officers then went to the hospital to speak to the victim, and he told them that his sister RACQUEL TRAPP  and her husband  PAUL TRAPP  OWNED THE DOGS.

The victim told the police that he had taken the white PIT BULL "ICE" for a walk and had brought it back. Then he took the gray PIT BULL "ZEUS" for a walk.  When they returned, Zeus turned on him and attacked him biting him on both forearms.  He had to back away from him and leave the house because he continued to attack ........AND .........HE MUST HAVE LEFT IN A BIG HURRY BECAUSE HE LEFT THE DOOR OPEN ALLOWING  THE WHITE PIT BULL, ICE,  TO ESCAPE......AND.....

* ANOTHER ADULT PIT LOOSE IN THE HOUSE WAS "CURTIS"

* THE 2 FEMALE ADULT PITS ARE "HOLLIE" AND "ANNIE MAE"  AND ARE SECURED IN THE BASEMENT WITH ALL THEIR 15 PIT PUPPIES

* AND....THE VICTIM BELIEVES THAT THE RESCUED "ZEUS" HAD  BEEN TRAINED AS A GUARD DOG BY ITS PREVIOUS OWNER.

PAUL TRAPP SHOWED UP AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT LATER WITH PAPERWORK SHOWING THE PIT BULLS HAD HAD THEIR RABIES SHOTS, BUT NONE WERE REGISTERED WITH THE CITY OF ANSONIA......HE STATED THAT THEY ARE.....

CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND VA - 2009 - PIT BULL ATTACKED THE GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER OF ACCOMACK COUNTY SUPERVISOR - WANDA THORNTON

June 1, 2009 - Accomack County Council Meeting - Supervisor Wanda Thornton addressed the Council -

"Saturday afternoon people and 4 dogs were trespassing on my property.  A  PIT BULL attacked my great-granddaughter as she was getting out of the car.

****THE ATTACK CAME SO FAST THAT THERE WAS NO TIME TO STOP IT .  I THINK THEY WOULD HAVE KILLED HER.*********

Fortunately a number of people were in the vicinity of the attack and they pulled the dog off the 6-year-old girl.    She was bleeding profusely and was in shock.  The dog got on her and -----WENT FOR HER FACE!!!!!!!

She put her arm up to protect her face and the dog bit her arm.

THE DOG HAS ATTACKED OTHERS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD IN AT LEAST 2 OCCASIONS.

I contacted Accomack County Animal Control, but it takes about 45 minutes for the agency to respond to calls from Chincoteague.  The dog has been destroyed and the remains sent to a lab.  I am requesting the town look into constructing a "holding pen" to keep such animals until the county's Animal Control can get here to pick up the animal.

SOCORRO NM - A PIT BULL KILLED PLAJERES ZAMORA'S BELOVED TERRIER CHICITO -WHILE SHE AND HER NIECE WERE PLAYING AT GRANADA PARK

A BROWN AND WHITE PIT BULL WEARING A BLACK AND WHITE SPIKED COLLAR ATTACKED AND KILLED A 10-YEAR-OLD  TERRIER AT GRANADA PARK ON FRIDAY, MARCH 16

Sat - Mar 24, 2012 - On Friday, March 16, Plajeres Zamora had just bought a bicycle for her 8-year-old niece who was visiting her for spring break.  The two decided to ride to nearby Granada Park and let Zamora's  little dog, CHICITO, come along with them.

There was another boy playing in the park, also, when  2 PIT BULLS  showed up.  They first approached her neice and she immediately came closer to Zamora.  Then the boy and one of the dogs left the park, and the other PIT BULL came over to the playground equipment where Zamora and her niece were sitting.  Their little dog Chicito came out from under the slide and....

           ********** THE PIT BULL ATTACKED !!!!!!! **********

It picked up the little terrier in the air by his stomach, then slammed him to the ground many times.

Two City workers were pulling up in a truck and saw what was going on and ran toward them holding shovels. The Pit Bull let go of the little dog.  It was already dead !!!  The Pit Bull acted like it was going  to walk away, but then turned and came back toward Zamora and her niece.  They began climbing higher on the equipment to get to safety.

Zamora said a Police Officer showed up and took a report, but no one from Animal Control showed up or followed up with her. She was told that the only animal control officer, Frank Marquez, was busy with other duties Friday and was never called by the dispatcher.

HOWEVER, A NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENT SAID SHE'S BEEN CALLING ANIMAL CONTROL ABOUT TWO PIT BULLS RUNNING LOOSE IN THE AREA FOR MONTHS !!!

"I CALLED THEM THURSDAY BEFORE IT HAPPENED BECAUSE THEY WERE CHASING MY CATS,"  SHE SAID.

So Zamora went to City Hall on Tuesday, March 20, to talk with City Clerk Pat Salome.  He said that the:

*****PRIMARY PURPOSE OF HAVING ANIMAL CONTROL IS TO WORK ON SITUATIONS LIKE THIS, WHEN THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF RESIDENTS MAY BE IN JEOPARDY.  SALOME ALSO SAID THAT ANIMAL SHELTER DIRECTOR, ALFREDO JOJOLA, HAD SOME KNOWLEDGE OF THE AREA AND SOME KNOWLEDGE OF THE DOGS, AND DID TALK TO PEOPLE IN THE AREA THIS WEEK.

"THIS IS SOMETHING WE TAKE SERIOUSLY, AND SOMETHING THE PUBLIC NEEDS TO BE AWARE OF.  THEE'S A DOG OUT THERE THAT IS OBVIOUSLY AGGRESSIVE THAT WE NEED TO DO OUR BEST TO FIND.  WE WANT TO GET THE RIGHT ANIMAL,"   SALOME SAID.  "THE IDEA IS TO DO THE RIGHT THING, GET THE RIGHT ONE."

On Friday, March 23, at about 11 am, Jojola, accompanied by two  Socorro Police Officers, went to the spring Street home of Leroy Saavedra, the owner of a Pit Bull Jojola believes to have been involved in the attack..   SAAVEDRA was cited, but the dog was not impounded because it was penned up, Jojola said.

SAAVEDRA is due to appear in court on March 27

Even if he's got the right dog, the only thing he can charge the owner with, per the existing city ordinanace, is letting it run loose, Jojola.  The ordinance gives animal control  officers the responsibility of destroying any dog they find in the act of pursuing or wounding livestock or wounding and killing poultry or attacking humans.

"WE DIDN'T CATCH THIS DOG IN THE ACT."

WILLOWS CA - 2 PIT BULLS CORNER A WOMAN IN HER BACKYARD - HERO - POLICEMAN RISKS POSSIBLE INJURY AS HE POSITIONS HIMSELF BETWEEN THE DOGS AND THE WOMAN AND WAS FORCED TO SHOOT THEM

"HE DIDN'T GO THERE INTENDING TO USE HIS GUN.  HE TRIED TO DISSUADE THE DOGS FROM THEIR ATTACK, BUT THEY WOULDN'T GO."

Fri - Mar 23, 2012 - Sgt. Carl Walter, a veteran of the willows Police department, is being hailed as a  HERO for risking possible injury Thursday to help a woman who was being attacked by  2 LARGE PIT BULLS.

When neighbor Penny Thompson made the call to 911, Sgt. Walter arrived to find Tamera Hanni, 48,  in her backyard pinned against the fence.  She was trying to defend herself with a shovel and she was terrified and screaming as the dogs were aggressively and viciously trying to attack her.  As she continued to try and push the dogs away, they continued to lunge and bite at her and the shovel.

Walter first pulled his baton and yelled at the dogs to try to draw them away from Hanni and toward him. The dogs finally turned loose of the shovel and moved a few feet away and continued to growl at both of them.  Walter attempted to move Hanni behind him, but she stayed frozen in her position next to the fence.  When the dogs squared off and turned as if to attack Walter, he moved between Hanni and the dogs, and when he felt he had a clear shot, he pulled his gun and fired.

One of the dogs was shot multiple times and died immediately.  The second dog was wounded and fled to a nearby residenace, where it was captured by Glenn County Animal  Control.

The  Pit Bull belong to Edvarda Nararro, the female Pit Bull-Bulldog mix  was owned by Victoria Hogan. One of the dogs had a prior history of aggression.

WATERBURY CT - 2 PIT BULLS ATTACKED 88-YEAR-OLD LENA POIDOMANI IN HER YARD - DRAGGING HER AND MAULING HER ARMS AND LEGS RIGHT DOWN TO THE BONE !!!!!!!

VICTIM'S SON AND ALDERMAN,  PAUL POIDOMANI,  SPEAKS:  "SHE CARRIED ON LIFE AS IF SHE WAS IN HER FIFTIES.  I'M SURE THIS WILL BE THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR HER.  SHE'S BAD.  HER RIGHT ARM IS ALL TORN UP, HER TWO LEGS, RIGHT DOWN TO THE BONE.  THEY'RE WORTHLESS DOGS AND PREDATORS."

Thurs - Mar 22, 2012 - An elderly woman has been attacked in her own backyard on Tuesday evening about 5 pm.  Police shot and killed the NEIGHBOR'S 2 PIT BULLS.

Lena Poidomani, 88, was dragged by the Pit Bulls, then attacked.  While looking at a picture of his mother, Paul Poidomani, still in shock from the attack that his mother had to endure,  said she carried on life as if she was only in her fifties.  Being attacked by the Pit Bulls has taken that away.

"She trims these bushes and rakes the yard, and you can't do that with a walker, and that's absolutely going to kill her. I'm sure this will be the beginning of her end."

Paul Poidomani was furious when he learned from police that the dogs' owners are no where to be found.  According to police, the dogs escaped from their cage.  Police had no choice, but to shoot them.

Alderman Ernest Brunelli doesn't want to ban Pit Bulls completely, but he does want owners to understand the responsibilities of having Pit Bulls as pets.

"It's something that happened here sclose to me, so I'm just trying to push further legislation,"  said Brunelli.  "Our problem is are these dogs vaccinated?  Are these people insured?  We have no idea.  I want to stiffen the penalties, and make sure every dog is vaccinated and insured."

Brunelli will bring his lproposed cshanges before the Aldermen sometime in April.  He is hoping for a public hearing.

WATERTOWN NY - 2 PIT BULL MIXES ATTACKED IN EVA MARINO'S BACKYARD MAULING HER BOXER AND BITING HER FINGER ALMOST OFF- THE MAIN BITER WAS A "RESCUE DOG" FROM MARYLAND!!!!

MRS. MARINO DID NOT KNOW 2 MIXED PIT BULLS WERE LIVING ACROSS THE STREET IN AN APARTMENT .  SHE BELIEVES THE BREED SHOULD BE BANNED.  MANY COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY, INCLUDING DADE COUNTY IN FLORIDA,  AND DENVER CO,  BANS THEM.  FORT DRUM BANS THEM ON POST.

Thurs - Mar 22, 2012 - Eva Marino, 66,  and her daughter Carol Miller, 46, were attacked about 2 pm  on March 14 by   2   PIT BULLS .  Her daughter was outside with their pet dog  when the 2 PIT BULLS ran into the backyard and started attacking the boxer.  Her daughter attempted to stop the attack. Then she saw what was happening and tried to come to the rescue. The Pit Bull Mix  had such a tight grip on their family pet that both women were afraid it was going to pick the 90-pound boxer up in its mouth and shake it to death !!!  At one point, she looked down and realized her hand was bitten and the first knuckle on her index finger was just hanging.

Her Boxer, Roc, sustained 27 puncture wounds and her daughter was also injured. Fortunately, Samaritan Medical Center surgeons were able to reattach her finger.

But Mrs. Marino wonders about the emotional scars the attack will leave:

      "IT WAS TRAUMATIZING,"  SHE SAID.

This attack happened just 3 days before a Nellis Street man had to kill another  PIT BULL that had gotten into his home and attacked his miniature dachshund.   And,  last August, a 2-year-old boy was mauled while with his mother at the Watertown farmers market.

JULIE R. BEAUVAIS  the dogs owner, says her 2-year-old daughter  "MISTAKENLY"  let the Pit Bull Mixes  out of the apartment building and they ran across the road to Mrs. Marino's house.  By the time she got there, the attack was well under way:

"I PRIED HIM WAY AND BROUGHT HIM HOME,"  SHE SAID.

She was ticketed by the Jefferson County Dog Control Office for: having dogs off a leash and not having dog licenses.

**********THE VICTIM'S DOG WAS IN HEAT************

RINGGOLD GA - PIT BULL ATTACKED 7-YEAR-OLD BOY - PARENTS SAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF ANIMAL CONTROL HAD DEALT WITH THE DOG EARLIER - THEY HAVE FILED AN OPEN RECORDS REQUEST WITH CATOOSA COUNTY

VICTIM'S FATHER SPEAKS:  "I FELT LIKE MY SON DIDN'T MATTER.  THAT DOG IS MORE IMPORTANT.  THAT DOG ATTACKED A KID.  NOT ONE KID, BUT SEVERAL KIDS."

Weds - Mar 22, 2012 - Tanner Eaves was playing fetch with the dog at a friend's  house on Sparks Street in Ringgold.  Tanner chased down the ball and the dog was not far behind him:

I GOT THERE FIRST AND THEN THE DOG HEAD BUTTED ME KNOCKING ME DOWN.  IT THEN BIT MY FACE, SIDE AND GROIN."

He had to have surgery and spent the night in the hospital......BUT THE PIT BULL  GOT TO STAY AT HOME UNDER A 10-DAY QUARANTINE!!!

Gerald Eaves believes that with this serious of an injury, the dog should've been picked up at the pound and held at the pound.  He has found out that the dog has attacked before.

"WHEN WE WENT TO CATOOSA COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AT 3:45 FOR A COPY OF THE INCIDENT REPORT AS WELL AS TO FIND OUT WHY THE DOG WASN'T TAKEN INTO CUSTODY, THEY TOLD US TO FILE AN OPEN RECORDS REQUEST."

The Eaves family received a phone call at 4:09 pm from animal control telling them the dog is now at the shelter.

"IF THEY HAD DONE THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE, I WOULD NOT BE ANGRY.  I FELT LIKE MY SON DIDN'T MATTER.  THAT, THAT DOG IS MORE IMPORTANT.  THAT DOG ATTACKED A KID.  NOT ONE KID, BUT SEVERAL KIDS."

Mr. Eaves says that they filed an open records request with Catoosa County to get the incident report and any previous records on the dog.  They told us the woman who normally handles those requests is  out of the office.  So we'll have to wait to get the records until the proper personnel returns to work.

RAINSVILLE, DEKALB COUNTY AL - 5 PIT BULLS ATTACKED MARY KATHERINE CARROLL WHILE SHE WAS OUT JOGGING

VICTIM SPEAKS:  "CITIES NEED LAWS.  IF THIS HAD HAPPENED TO A CHILD, THE CHILD WOULD BE DEAD.  I'M AN ANIMAL LOVER, BUT IT'S TAKEN THIS FOR ME TO REALIZE THAT THE RIGHTS OF MY DOG ARE LESS THAN THE RIGHTS OF MY NEIGHBORS."

Mary Katherine Carroll

Mary Katherine Carroll was out jogging last Thursday when she noticed a  PIT BULL  coming toward her.

"I'M FAMILIAR WITH DOGS AND USUALLY, IF YOU SPEAK TO THEM IN AN AUTHORITATIVE VOICE, THEY'LL GO ON."

The dogs did not go on. One bit her on the back of her leg, and then.......4 MORE DOGS JUMPED HER.

She was able to stay upright and was trying to make her way to a front porch so she could get help.  Then she remembered her cell phone, but before she could make a call, one of the dogs jumped up and bit her bicep and pulled her to the ground. She got back up but all the while the dogs were tearing and biting the flesh and muscle on her legs, groin and arms.

Suddenly a woman familiar with the dogs came up and began to yell at them.  She told Carroll to put her arms around her neck, and the lady put her arms around Carroll's waist to hold her up.  Then a man in a pickup truck stopped and the dogs ran away..  The woman took her to the Dekalb Regional Medical Center where she:

UNDERWENT ABOUT 5 HOURS OF SURGERY BECAUSE:

*  BOTH HER CALF MUSCLES AND HER LEFT BICEP WERE HANGING FROM HER BODY

WATERTOWN NY - A PIT BULL INVADES BRIAN KING'S HOME GOING AFTER HIS BELOVED MINI DACHSHUND - HE STABBED IT WITH A KITCHEN KNIFE !!!!

UPDATE:  KIMBERLY N. LASHURE HAS A HISTORY OF DRUG ARRESTS

Tues - Mar 20, 2012 -  The Pit Bull went on quite a rampage......attempting to get to two other pets before he chased Brian King's pet in his house.

Brian A. King holds Mitch, his Yorkshire terrier, following an incident Saturday when a pit bull entered the home and attacked Mac, Mr. King’s miniature dachshund, who is currently at the vet. Mr. King killed the pit bull with a kitchen knife.

About 7 am Saturday morning, a neighbor that lives nearby on Brainard Street said a cinnamon-colored PIT BULL was trying to get under her fence where her own goldendoodle was.  But when she called the police, they said they wouldn't come just for a stray dog.....and dog-control officials weren't on duty yet. She began poking it away with her daughter's ski.

Another woman was walking a dog up Brainard  Street and the PIT BULL turned and ran up to the woman and her little dog.  She snatched her dog up and the other neighbor ran over with the ski and the Pit Bull turned away from her.

Mr. King, who had seen none of this, was fastening one of his dogs  to a run in his yard, when the women shouted to him warning him that a PIT BULL was on the loose.  He grabbed Mac, his dachshund, as the dog approached.  The Pit then chased Mr. King around his pickup truck.  He then made a run for the front door but tripped on the threshold:

THE PIT BULL GOT INTO HIS HOUSE AND WAS BITING MAC ON HIS  HIND QUARTERS.  MR. KING IS A CIVILIAN POLICE OFFICER ON FORT DRUM...............!!!!!........AND

HE DID NOT HESITATE TO ACT !!!!!!!!!!!

HE GRABBED A KITCHEN KNIFE FROM A NEARBY TABLE AND STABBED THE DOG.  WHEN THAT DIDN'T STOP THE DOG, HE BEGAN TO HIT IT WITH A GOLF CLUB.

THE DACHSHUND WAS STILL CLAMPED IN THE  PIT BULL'S JAWS WHEN IT DIED AND HE FELT NO REMORSE ABOUT KILLING IT....."THIS DOG WOULD NOT LET US GO.THE NEXT ATTACK COULD BE ON A CHILD OR AN ELDERLY COUPLE "

LAKE CORMORANT MS - NEIGHBOR'S PIT BULLS RUN OUT ON MARK WORRELL TWICE - ONCE BITING HIS YORKIE AND THE SECOND TIME INJURING HIS ANKLE

VICTIM SPEAKS:  "I'M DISABLE AND MY DOCTORS SAY I HAVE TO WALK EVERY DAY FOR HEALTH REASONS.THE POLICE OFFICER SUGGESTED I CARRY A BIG KNIFE WITH ME AND STAB THE DOG, BUT THESE DOGS WEIGH 70 OR 80 POUNDS.  THEY ARE PIT BULLS AND I DON'T THINK I CAN DO THAT."

On Thursday, March 15, Mark Worrell had another encounter with a neighborhood PIT BULL.  He is now walking with a limp and his ankle is swollen.  Last week, he says it was another PIT BULL that ran from the same neighbor's yard biting his Yorkie.

"MY GRANDKIDS ARE TWO YEARS OLD.  THEY LIKE PLAYING OUTSIDE WITH ME AND MY DAUGHTER WON'T BRING THEM OVER HERE BECAUSE SHE IS SCARED OF THE PIT BULLS."

Worrell called police and animal control both times.  The first time the owner was warned.  Yesterday, one of the dogs was taken.  The dog is now in county custody, tranquilized and considered vicious by the law.

Desoto County Animal Control Director Larry Houston says, "If bites somebody, running at large in the street off its property."

Since the dog has been deemed vicious, the owner will now have to go to court and a judge will have to decide what happens next.

"Whatever the judge wants us to do with it, he can give it back to the owner and the owner can get $100,000 insurance for bodily harm and he will have to get him a special kennel,"  explained Houston. "If the owner complies, the Pit Bull can come home in ten days.

*************************************************************************

WORRELL BELIEVES IF THE DOG BROKE HIS SKIN, IT SHOULD BE PUT DOWN AND NOT ALLOWED TO TERRORIZE HIS OR HIS FAMILY ANY LONGER.

"THE POLICE OFFICER SUGGESTED I CARRY A BIG KNIFE WITH ME AND STAB THE DOG, BUT THESE DOGS WEIGH 70 OR 80 POUNDS.  THEY ARE PIT BULLS AND I DON'T THINK I CAN DO THAT."
**************************************************************************

The owner will likely be in court at the beginning of next week.  If he does not comply with the judge's orders the dog could be put down.

JEMISON AL - 2006 - A POLICE OFFICER WAS MAULED BY 2 PIT BULLS

May 20, 2006 - A Jemison Police Officer was seriously injured Saturday when he was attacked by   2 PIT BULLS   while on duty.

Jemison Police Chief Brian Stilwell says the officer,  Jeff Manasco, was hospitalized at Baptist Shelby following the 8:30 am incident at a home on Highway 191.

Manasco, who shot and killed the 2 dogs to escape, had gone to the home in response to an animal complaint. The officer had multiple bites and serious injury to his right arm. He had to draw his firearm with his left hand because the dogs were clamped down on his right arm.  If he had not been a police officer or had not had a firearm:

"THEY PROBABLY WOULD HAVE KILLED HIM.!!!!!"

The dogs have been taken to a veterinary clinic for tests.  Stilwell says the dog owner, whose name was not immediately availabale, could be charged with possession of a vicious animal and allowing it to run loose in violation of the city ordinance. Due to the severity of Manasco's bite injuries, the charges could be elevated to a felony.

The dogs were later destroyed by a veterinarian.  Manasco, who was treated and released from a hospital, was later re-hospitalized because of an infection from the wound and will likely undergo surgery.

Jemison passed a tougher leash law in its May First  council meeting.

Dog attack victim was "ripped apart"

Adams said Stewart, who is disabled, had been staying a few days at his Forest Street home when she decided to go for a walk alone Friday night and was attacked by a neighbor's dog.

***SOMEHOW SHE MANAGED TO DRAG HERSELF BACK TO HIS HOME, HE SAID.***

"SHE WAS COVERED HEAD TO TOE IN BLOOD AND MUD.  THE DOG TOOK HER ELBOW OUT, CHEWED HER WHOLE FOREARM SO THERE WAS JUST SKIN AND BONE LEFT,  HER RIGHT ARM HAD ABOUT A 3-INCH-DEEP BY A 4-INCH-WIDE BITE TAKEN OUT, AND SHE HAD SOME BITES ON HER HEAD, NECK AND FACE.  MOST HER CLOTHES HAD BEEN RIPPED OFF.

The Maine State Police, who earlier reported that the dog was an AMERICAN BULLDOG, have charged the animal's owner, Adam Bemis, 28, with keeping a dangerous dog. Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.   The dog was taken to the Bangor Humane Society, where it has been placed under quarantine for at least 10 days.

But that's not a lot of comfort for this victim.  He went out and bought bear spray.
