JACKSONVILLE TX - GREAT NEWS !!! KONEN IS GOING HOME - LOOK AT THAT PRESCIOUS FACE AND SMILE !!!!!

Konen was attacked by his family's dogs on December 18, 2013.  This is the last message written by his mom at  http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/prayers-for-konen/117496   GOOD LUCK TO THIS YOUNG FAMILY !!!..........

1 month ago my life changed forever! I watched my happy, out going, fun, loving, amazing, beautiful child lose his life in front of me! I was covered in his blood waiting for the hospital to stabilize him and tell me he was okay. Instead we were air lifted here to Dallas where my son under went 3 long hours of surgery.  I watched him not move, covered in bruises and stitches with a neck brace and... a machine breathing for him. A tube in his lung, a trach in his throat, a drain tube in his throat. A pic line going to his heart and multiple ivs. Along with being tied to the bed. He had a stroke and a seizure, which paralized his left side for 2 weeks. All because of a dog that I believed could over come its reputation!! I'm sure many people will still defend the breed, but I will never ever own one again. My kids will never step foot around one again. I refuse to risk anything, with any dog again! I hated the world And even lost hope. I thought a piece of me was gone. The very being that I grew in my tummy and gave birth to and loved. i Was a mother and father to until Bret Arp came around! He was brutally attacked for no reason, by dogs that we loved and cared for like our own children!  I couldn't believe it. Didn't want to. Heard drs tell me my son may not make it! That his left side wouldn't work again. But look at him now! Alive, breathing on his own.. WALkING, TALkING. Dancing, loving life again. Only A trach, NG tube and neck brace. And a little weakness on his left side.  He is a true miracle and survived something that he was not believed to survive from.. Drs have told me its a miracle he is alive. I believe it was God. My faith now is stronger then it has ever been. To witnesses something like this! God is amazing!!!

HERE IS A STORY ABOUT A CHILD, KARA HARTRICH,  WHO WAS ATTACKED BY THE FAMILY'S "DOGS" AND THE CHILD DID NOT MAKE IT.  THERE ARE SO MANY NUTTERS SURROUNDING THIS HARTRICH FAMILY, I DON'T KNOW IF THEY WILL EVER LEAVE THE KINGDOM OF NUTTERDOM EVEN AFTER LOSING THEIR CHILD !!!

What a beautiful child, I'm getting all choked up just looking at that photo :( So glad he's doing well, and thank goodness his mom recognizes her mistake and is not trying to justify anything, or make excuses for those nasty beasts! I wish nothing but the best for this family.

I am so relieved Konen pulled through! It was looking very grim, and it was hard to read the updates on the fund raising website that was set up for him.

It is wonderful that his mom has come around about pit bulls. They're not worth it!

I'm glad she's seen the truth after spending years telling other people with kids "it's all in how you raise them" and "They're just like other dogs". Too bad an innocent child almost died for her to get a clue. The information IS out there if you take five minutes to google it. Sorry but this attack makes me more angry than the miraculous recovery makes me happy. Nanny dogs my ASS.

So sad that the only way most people "de-convert" from pit bull activism is after a tragedy like this happens to one of their own.

How many maulings will it take for the tide to turn?

What a great story. That account from his mom was kind of sad, but also uplifting because of how positive she's being.

"All because of a dog that I believed could over come its reputation!!" I figured as much.

Having a pit bull for a family pet is playing Pit Roulette with your child's life. Not worth it.

It is playing pit roulette, and why so many people put their children at risk, is mind-boggling.

What a shame that this woman is still talking about 'dogs'. What a shame that you didn't specify either that this child was attacked by pit bull mixes, not by generic 'dogs'.

Until she does that, as far as I'm concerned she's still just another pit nutter. Until she does that, the only one who has my sympathy is the poor boy.

As it is here, she's warning people not to be around 'dogs' in general. Which is to say, pit bulls are just like normal dogs, and normal dogs are just as dangerous as pit bulls. This is standard pit lobby talk.

So she's not over her nutterism yet. I'm disappointed that this blog is participating in that. At the least you could have included in your blurb that it was the family's pit mixes that attacked the child.

Her child survived this PIT BULL attack. Sixteen other people's children didn't. If we're going to keep future children alive, it's crucial to tell that it's PIT BULLS and their mixes killing children three weeks.

Yes, Sputnik, I vasilated back and forth on this attack because this mother is so very young and she has 3 children...a baby girl even younger than Konen. She does say, "Some people will still take up for the breed. but not me ever again." I am very aware that they never said what mix the other dog was. They just killed it along with the pit mix saying that they couldn't be sure if it was involved in the attack or not. I wanted to know how the dogs were kept - was there a fence or were they chained? The mother said on her facebook that the "dog" was not stabbed to make it release during the attack...but the dogs just ran off. I can't imagine tending to these 3 small children and dogs like this without proper containment. Yes, there was a lot left unsaid about this attack and I vasilated on this one out of respect for the job she has ahead of her! Hopefully Jennifer will speak more as time goes on for all the "FUTURE VICTIMS".

As far as people googling, there is so much misinformation out there, it's kind of hard to fault them. Well, for me anyway. I'm not mad at the parents for this, I'm mad at legislatures. I think until BSL is enacted, or pit bulls are banned outright, parents will keep making this hideous mistake.

Her statement that she will never take another chance with a dog reminds me of this quote: Indeed, pit bull advocacy, because it erodes public trust in dogs and people who care about dogs, stands a good chance of superseding rabies as the single greatest threat to the health, well-being, and human appreciation of all dogs worldwide.-MERRITT CLIFTON, journalist, Animal People editor

Pit bulls are being pedals and pushed on us every way we turned lately. It has been so cold here the past week so I found myself watching the weather channel...so much for that...they are having a contest to find the best "therapy" dog by going from shelter to shelter and 9 of of 10 dogs at each shelter they visit are pitties wiggling their hyperactive butts off. So I flipped the channel and found myself watching QVC...they were showing bedding and flannel sheets and suddenly on the screen was a pretty young woman laying on her stomach in a bed of these flannel sheets with a huge pit bull slumbering over her!!! Yes, a QVC ad for sheets had a pit bull!!! I'm older and raised in a different era...I'm able to see the big picture. No one had to convince me that these mutant dogs were dangerous. But these young teens and adults now don't get the big picture. For the most part they can't see beyond the "Propaganda Machine". And I hope beyond hope that I am so wrong about Kara Hartrich's parents and they honor their child's life by rising up and getting the big picture about pit bulls, their mixes, and other gripping type dogs and they use the rest of their lives to save other children.

On my news last night, a "puppy" was rescued from a frozen body of water. That puppy was a full grown pit bull. The entire nation has been infected with pit bull mania.

"And I hope beyond hope that I am so wrong about Kara Hartrich's parents and they honor their child's life by rising up and getting the big picture about pit bulls, their mixes, and other gripping type dogs and they use the rest of their lives to save other children."

That's what I'm hoping for as well. I'm also hoping that Konen's mom does the same thing.

KaD, I understand what you're saying. There are so many repercussions on so many levels. Many, many times, when I have written comments, I've changed "dogs" to "pit bulls." There is a huge difference between a dog and a pit bull, and the more we differentiate between them, the more we can make the reputation of pit bulls stick to where it belongs.

Ka D - What an intriguing and quite true quote. As a lover of the English language, I know the power of words, and how so often they get twisted and changed for the sake of pit bulls. While I haaaaaaaate hatehatehate the way dogs have an undeserved (in my opinion) lofty status of being a sort of "god-furbaby". Pit bulls are practically celestial in their holy misunderstanding. I've never seen anything close to a picture of a German shepherd being crucified "for others' sins". People who fear Rottweilers and Dobermans don't get compared to Nazis. Yet, can't they very easily be dangerous? Pit bulls are even advocated for in spite of all the other dogs they maul and kill, which is saying something when it comes to America....sorry, but even though I like dogs I feel some countries are too obsessed with them. The way it curries favor for our favorite nannies is just adding fire to the flame. The more you know about pit bulls and pit advocacy, the more sickening it becomes.

DecAL - Not surprising. People pay more attention to an ad if there's a dog in it. Bedding and flannel sheets are a perfect opportunity to show off how gentle pit bulls really are (until they're not). In addition, I'm pretty sure I'm the youngest one here by a long shot. "Pets" were just about expected in each household in my era. And now I am SO glad I know what makes pit bulls different from other dogs.

....Oh wait. It's almost impossible to tell if a dog is a pit bull just by looking at it. So the picture really was a German shepherd being crucified!!
