Kershaw County deputies say a woman shot and killed a PIT BULL that attacked her dog and ran into her home.
On November 9th deputies  got a call of a dog attack at a home in Elgin. When officers arrived at the house, they say they found a dead pit bull inside.
The victim told deputies that the dog had come into her yard and attacked her small dog, and she fired shots from her gun at the pit bull to try and stop the attack. The pit bull, the woman says, came toward her, and she was able to keep it away with a chair.
The pit bull then ran into the home through a doggy door. The woman said she then shot and killed the dog because she feared for her safety.
The woman asked deputies to help put her dog out of its misery. The officers also buried the pet.
Deputies determined that the pit bull was being kept by the woman's neighbor. That person told officers that he was keeping it for his sister who lived in Hawaii.
Kershaw County Animal Control cited the caretaker of the pit bull for $1,500.

So sad the woman still lost her little dog. Glad the pit is dead, and the "caretaker" is getting a hefty fine.

All's well that ends well. I hope her little dog is ok.

Someone has shown up in comments on the news article claiming to be the owner and spouting a whole bunch of the usual nutter LIES: I'm Military, serving my country! (Yeah, by owning a gripping mauler)
My child is autistic! (Yeah, so it must be a therapy pit bull.)
It's a conspiracy against pit bulls -- the woman enticed my gripper into her yard specifically so it would kill her little dog so she had an excuse to shoot it! Then she dragged the corpse into her living room so it would look like it invaded her home. (His kid may or may not be autistic, but he in any case is DELUSIONAL.)

You can't make this stuff up (unless you're a pit nutter).

It breaks my heart that she had to ask the police to put her dog out of its misery. I cannot even imagine what condition it must have been in for her to make that request and for them to honor it and bury the little dog for her.

And screw that mauler owner. CONTAIN YOUR PET and this stuff won't happen. There are numerous combat veterans in my family and NONE of them have or want a dangerous dog. They like quiet, peaceful, not causing mayhem pets that are SAFE for their family and the community.

OMG, I just went over there and the nutter's comment is gone. Apparently it is full of lies.. as in maybe that wasn't the mauler's owner! Or if it is, none of those things are true. But, whatever the case, the whole thing is avoided if people contain their maulers. That doesn't stop the mauler attacking altogether, but it keeps it from terrorizing the entire neighborhood.
