Kershaw County deputies say a woman shot and killed a PIT BULL that attacked her dog and ran into her home.
On November 9th deputies got a call of a dog attack at a home in Elgin. When officers arrived at the house, they say they found a dead pit bull inside.
The victim told deputies that the dog had come into her yard and attacked her small dog, and she fired shots from her gun at the pit bull to try and stop the attack. The pit bull, the woman says, came toward her, and she was able to keep it away with a chair.
The pit bull then ran into the home through a doggy door. The woman said she then shot and killed the dog because she feared for her safety.
The woman asked deputies to help put her dog out of its misery. The officers also buried the pet.
Deputies determined that the pit bull was being kept by the woman's neighbor. That person told officers that he was keeping it for his sister who lived in Hawaii.
Kershaw County Animal Control cited the caretaker of the pit bull for $1,500.
