BLACKFOOT ID - A FAMILY'S STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER MAULED THEIR 3-YEAR-OLD GIRL BITING A CHUNK OF FLESH OUT OF THE BACK OF HER NECK

Blackfoot police have cited a man whose dog seriously injured a child on Saturday.
Police, who cited Scott Allen Jensen with harboring a vicious animal this week, released some information about the incident on Wednesday.
Capt. Scott Gay said the man’s STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER, a pit bull breed of dog, bit a 3-year-old girl, who is part of the same household, at a residence on Meridian on Saturday.
“It was a very serious injury,” Gay said, adding that a 2.5- to 3-inch circle of flesh was missing from the back of the child’s neck.

He said it was one of the worst dog-bite injuries he’s seen in his 32 years in law enforcement.
The girl was transported by ground ambulance to the hospital, but additional details about her condition weren’t available on Wednesday.
Police have placed the dog in quarantine for 10 days to ensure it doesn’t have any diseases, and they will hold onto the animal until the court determines what to do with the dog, Gay said.
