A deputy killed one pit bull and injured a second as 3 PIT BULLS were attacking an eight-year-old Onslow County boy this afternoon.
Sheriff Hans Miller says it happened around noon at mobile home park off Andrea Avenue, in the Southwest area of Onslow County.
The sheriff says a third pit bull that was attacking the boy ran away, but was later caught. He says the dogs belonged to the boy's family.
Miller says the boy was "alive, but serious" after he was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. The child has injuries to his upper torso, neck and ear.
The sheriff says the child's parents were not at home, arriving during the attack.
Neighbors say they saw the boy walk out of the home and the dogs attacked him.
The two surviving pit bulls are now in animal control custody.
Miller says they're still investigating the attack and he says right now they're unsure of charges in the case.
This comes three months after another Onslow County eight-year-old was seriously attacked by a neighbor's pit bull about five miles away in Verona.
