______________________________________________________________________

I WAS WAITING UNTIL AFTER 8:00 AM THIS MORNING SO THAT I COULD CALL THE DECATUR ANIMAL CONTROL DIRECTOR AND HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT OUR LATEST DOG PROBLEM.  WE TRIED CALLING ANIMAL CONTROL IN SEPTEMBER 2009 AND IT WAS THE WORST THING WE COULD HAVE DONE.  WHY CALL THEM NOW?  WOULD THINGS BE ANY DIFFERENT?  I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY ANYWAY BECAUSE THE NEXT CALL I MAKE WILL HAVE TO BE TO A LAWYER.

SATURDAY MORNING THERE WAS LOTS OF HAMMERING GOING ON IN THE NUTTER'S BACK YARD....THEY TOOK THE ONE LONG 3-SIDED KENNEL THAT'S ATTACHED TO THE SIDE OF A  6 X 15 TO 20 FOOT LONG UTILITY BUILDING AND INSERTED PIECES OF CHAIN LINK FENCING AND MADE IT INTO 3 SECTIONS.  THEY PLACED A LARGE SECTION OF PLYWOOD ALONG THE BACK SIDE.  SO NOW 2 SECTIONS HAVE OLD DOG HOUSES AND THE OTHER HAS A HOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE BUILDING SO THE PIT CAN JUMP UP INTO IT.  THEY PLACED CHAIN LINK DOORS WITH JUST A LATCH HANDLE TO ACCESS THE INDIVIDUAL AREAS.

THE LARGE WHITE BREEDING PIT BULL  #5 (THE ONE THEY NEVER GOT RID OF IN DECEMBER 2011 (EVEN THOUGH A JUDGE ORDERED THEM TO) REMAINED IN THE FRONT COMPARTMENT DURING THIS RENOVATION. AS THE DAY ENDED ....OUT THEY CAME...THE X-LARGE PITS #6 AND #7 - VERY LARGE BROWN OR BRINDLE LOOKING - AT A DISTANCE THEY LOOK LIKE CANE CORSOS OR MASTIFFS WITH VERY DEEP LOUD BARKS.  PIT BULL #5 WOULD BE 5-6 YEARS OLD AND #6 AND #7 ARE PROBABLY BETWEEN 1 AND 2 YEARS OLD........IN THEY GO INTO THOSE SMALL COMPARTMENTS...THE 1ST  COMPARTMENT FOR  #5  IS THE LARGEST AT ABOUT 10 FEET WITH A WOODEN HOUSE IN THAT SPACE.  THE COMPARTMENT BEHIND THAT ONE IS MUCH SMALLER - ABOUT 6 FEET WIDE WITH A HOUSE IN THAT SPACE.  THE COMPARTMENT IN THE BACK IS VERY SMALL.  IT'S JUST A SMALL SPACE WITH A HUGE DOG SITTING IN IT.

PIT BULL #5 IS THE BARKER AND HAS BEEN WAKING US UP FOR MONTHS NOW.  WITH THE EXCITEMENT OF BEING PLACED IN A SMALLER SPACE AND THESE OTHER 2 LARGE PITS BESIDE HER, SHE BEGAN BARKING LOUDER AND MORE OFTEN. SHE WOKE US UP SUNDAY MORNING AT 6:00AM REALLY BARKING LONG AND LOUD. AND THE BARKING WENT ON ALL THROUGH THE DAY SUNDAY. I BEGAN TAPING MOST OF IT. WE NEVER HEARD ANYONE COME OUT TO CHECK ON THOSE DOGS ALL DAY SUNDAY.  CARS WERE PARKED IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE.

MONDAY MORNING THE BARKING WOKE US UP VERY EARLY AND WAS EVEN WORSE AND LONGER.  ALL DAY THE DOGS BEGAN LUNGING INSIDE THE PENS AS WE COME AND GO IN AND OUT OUR BACK DOOR. WE HEAR NO ACTIVITY FROM PEOPLE LIVING IN THE HOUSE AND NO CARS MOVED FROM THE DRIVEWAY.

TUESDAY MORNING THE DOGS SEEM IN A FRENZY ESPECIALLY #5 IN THE EARLY HOURS ABOUT 5, 6, 7 O'CLOCK.  AND IT GETS VERY HOT  - IN THE 90'S-  WE DO NOT HEAR OR SEE ANYONE COMING OUT TO CHECK ON THOSE DOGS. SO I GO ON FACEBOOK AND LOOK AT SOME OF THEIR RELATIVES POSTS AND LEARN THAT THESE NUTTERS JUST MAY BE IN FLORIDA FOR 4-5 DAYS.

WEDNESDAY THE CARS REMAIN UNMOVED AND THE DOGS WAKE US UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT SEVERAL TIMES.  #5 GOES INTO HER FRENZY ABOUT 6 AM. I AM BEGINNING TO BE VERY TIRED AND SLEEPY ALL THE TIME.  I SLEEP WITH MY TV ON EVERY NIGHT WHICH I HAVE NEVER DONE IN MY LIFE. I CAN'T SLEEP GOOD WITH THE DAMN TV ON.  HOW COULD ANYBODY??? AND I CAN STILL HEAR THE DOGS BARKING WITH THE TV ON.  SO WHAT'S THE POINT OF HAVING IT ON?

SO I TELL MYSELF THAT IF THOSE DOGS WAKE ME UP AGAIN ON THURSDAY MORNING I AM GOING TO START MAKING CALLS.  AT 4:45AM THURSDAY MORNING IT STARTED AGAIN VERY LOUD SO I GET MY RECORDER AND MY VIDEO CAMERA AND START THINKING OF WHAT I WILL SAY WHEN I MAKE MY CALL TO ANIMAL CONTROL:

1. IT APPEARS THAT THESE DOGS HAVE BEEN LEFT UNATTENDED FOR 4 DAYS AND NIGHTS.

2. IT HAS BEEN VERY HOT.

3. THE BARKING, GROWLING, AND LUNGING IS GROWING LOUDER AND MORE FREQUENT.

AT 6:30AM I  MAKE MY COFFEE AND WENT OUT ON MY FRONT PORCH AND SAT DOWN AND HERE COMES A LARGE VEHICLE AND PULLS UP IN THEIR DRIVEWAY AND THEY ALL GET OUT.  THEY'RE HOME!!!!   FROM FLORIDA????   I WALK THROUGH MY HOUSE TO MY BACK PATIO AND SIT DOWN AND THE YOUNG MAN THAT FABRICATED  THOSE 3 COMPARTMENTS FROM THE ONE LONG KENNEL THE PREVIOUS SATURDAY CAME OUT AND SPOKE TO THE DOGS AND THEY WHINED AND IN LESS THAN 60 SECONDS HE WAS BACK INSIDE THE HOUSE.  AND THEY CONTINUED THEIR USUAL BEHAVIOR.

THOSE DOGS OBVIOUSLY DO NOT HAVE BARK COLLARS ON THAT WORK.  #5 LOOKS LIKE SHE HAS HER LARGE BARK COLLAR ON BUT ITS NOT WORKING.  #6 AND #7 LOOK LIKE THEY DO NOT HAVE COLLARS ON!!!!!  FOR 5 DAYS NOW I HAVE BEEN AWARE THAT THOSE VERY LARGE DOGS HAD NO HUMAN SUPERVISION, WERE IN STRANGE KENNELS THEY HAD NEVER BEEN IN BEFORE LATE SATURDAY NIGHT, KENNELS THAT ARE VERY SMALL, AND......WITH ONE FLIP OF THEIR SNOUT THEY COULD UNLATCH THOSE DOORS AND GET OUT. WE WATCHED AS THEY TRIED TO DIG OUT OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

MY GOD, OF ALL THE PROBLEMS WE ARE FACING IN OUR DAY TO DAY LIVING, WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH PIT BULLS..........AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS?  WHY ARE THEY FORCING US TO USE OUR MEASLEY SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK TO PAY A LAWYER THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND WAIT FOR A COURT DATE FOR YEARS JUST TO MAKE THEM KEEP THEIR DOGS QUIET? WHY? HOW IS IT SERVING THEM TO HAVE THESE 3 VERY LARGE DOGS OUT BARKING AT THIN AIR  24-7?  THOSE DOGS ARE IN PENS LOOKING DOWN ON OUR PROPERTY WITH OUR BEDROOM CATCHING THE NOISE.  THERE IS NO SENSE IN THIS. YOU GO OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW AND YOU WILL HEAR NO OTHER DOGS DOING THE ROBO BARK BUT THEIRS.  GET UP AT 4, 5, 6 AM AND YOU WON'T HEAR IT FROM ANY OTHER DOG!!! I AM BEGGING YOU...SHUT YOUR DOGS UP.  KEEP THEM QUIET AT NIGHT !!! STOP THEM FROM LUNGING AND GROWLING AT US EVERY TIME WE TURN OUR BACK DOOR KNOB TO WALK  ON OUR PATIO.  WE ARE QUIET ELDERLY PEOPLE WITH 2 OLD DOGS THAT HAVE CANCER AND ARE DYING A SLOW DEATH.  WE ARE NOT BOTHERING YOU.

              KEEP YOUR DOGS QUIET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Decatur: I am terribly sorry you have to put up with this. You have the danger from the pits as well as the non-stop barking. Would a call to police be productive? They are clearly disturbing the peace.

What are your local laws on the matter? If AC and police won't enforce, perhaps a phone call or letter to the local DA, town council or county executives might gain some traction.

Its clear from your post that they are neglecting the dogs. That is an angle that can be explored. They may be exceeding the local limit on the number of dogs... do they have or need a kennel license?

Are the neighbors into anything, besides the dogs, that authorities may take an interest in? Drugs? Weapons? Any suspicious behavior that might indicate criminal activity? You can background check them for not a lot of money - perhaps some or all have outstanding warrants. Who knows, you might even get a reward for turning them in.

Do they rent or own? If they rent, contacting the landlord may be productive, particularly if the activity is in violation of the lease. If they own, contacting the bank and/or the insurance company may be helpful. They are degrading the value of the property, creating a public nuisance, and putting themselves and others at risk of a dog attack - the insurance co. may be VERY interested in the increased risk and liability. Breeder pits are the most dangerous.

One of the newer regular commenters on my blog had TWO similar nuisances in his neighborhood resolved recently: First group were drug dealers that got carted away by the cops, second group got foreclosed on by the mortgage lender. Takeaway is, people who behave like this aren't exactly the most stable types.

Nobody should have to live like this. Keep us posted. I will cross post to my blog if you don't mind.

AVOCADOS are extremely fatty and bad for dogs' pancreas. Anything with a fatty concentration is not good, but they will gobble it up. Raisins, dark chocolate, onions, garlic, macadamia nuts are also very, very bad. Watch out if you toss these things around. You would want a dog to eat them because it could be deadly.

In the Seattle area, a couple won a $250,000 judgement against their neighbors due to continued barking disturbance.

The fact that authorities will not react to this is a total disgrace. What, Fido is involved so they do nothing? Unfortunately, it is like that in too many places.

I think an appearance at your next town council meeting is in order. Bring evidence.

There has to be some angle you can work on these people. The occupants own: Do they have homeowner's insurance? If not, the lender would be interested since I'm sure the loan is contingent upon insurance. If they are covered, a little love note to the insurer may be in order.

XXL pits rake in big bucks. I understand that "Hulk" the 175 lb Pitbull pulls in a 5 figure stud fee. They sell to other trash with more money than brains.

In a way, its good they are pits - a backyard full of barking cockers can be just as bad, but the insurance people won't care as much.

If you don't mind I am going to start a comment thread on my blog - my commentariat are quite astute: One or more may have a workable solution. I can't come up with much else right now.

Former next-door neighbors had a pit bull. And I wrote not one, but three, letters to their landlord. The letters were meant to put the landlord on notice re: his risk of legal liability. The pit bull remained.

Then, in January of 2014, the pit bull got out and I came face to face with it as I was bicycling away from my house and headed to a meeting. Fortunately, I wasn't attacked.

When I got home from the meeting, I called my county supervisor's office and reported the pit bull to an aide. Who called animal control.

Well, this is Pima County, AZ, and let me tell you that as a general rule, our AC couldn't care less about loose pit bulls. Unless they're forced to.

In this case, they were forced to by the county supervisor's office. My call got the ball rolling, AC came out that evening, and I do believe that my neighbors were cited. I seldom say Bully the pit bull after that. (Yes, Bully was his name.)

Then came late June of last year. Bully took umbrage at the fact that I was inside my house, adjusting a window. He came charging over to the fence, in full barking frenzy. Next thing I heard was the sound of the owner, beating Bully with a garden house.

A week later, same thing happened. I'm in my house adjusting the window again. Bully comes roaring over to the fence line in a barking rage.

Unbeknownst to me, a neighbor called the police for a welfare check. I saw it on our neighborhood police call log. A few days later, Bully and his owner moved out. And they did most of their moving under cover of darkness.

The "ask" for Hulk to be stud to your bitch is $20,000.00 (or, was). Might be more or less now.

$20,000 to breed a dog...much less a colossal pit...WHY????????????

The advice about contacting their home insurance carrier is good. Insurance companies have an enormous amount of power and can accomplish things that no other entity can. It is likely that someone owes money on that home, either the people living there or their landlord. To have a loan you must have insurance. Here in Florida many of our insurance companies are trying to get out of having to carry this type of coverage. They are going around and inspecting properties. Then they give you a list of things you need to fix to avoid cancellation. If you are cancelled, good luck finding new coverage. You will still have to fix everything, and more, because a new insurance company is likely to do a more thorough and invasive inspection and charge more money. If you can't get insurance, your home will be foreclosed upon.
At the very least you will cause these neighbors some serious headaches. Our insurance company is making our neighbors get rid of their pit bulls. They are also telling us that we need to get rid of my goats. We are zoned agricultural. There is no limit on the number or type of farm animals that you can legally have. They are well contained and well cared for. We are registered as a farm with the state of Florida, and the USDA. There is no legal reason for them to make us get rid of them. But they can, because we have to have insurance. We are looking into new companies, but our house is pretty old, and they want us to make a lot of improvements before they will allow us to pay them an exorbitant amount of money for pretty much nothing, I mean coverage. You have to allow them onto your property and into your house. I find the whole process invasive, heartbreaking, impossible, offensive, unnecessary, stressful, and a real pain in the ass. I am a customer. I pay this company gobs of money (at least to me it's gobs of money). They should be working for me instead of invading my home and making unreasonable demands.
Sorry for the rant, but if you can deliver some of this awful heartache onto these dangerous neighbors, it sounds like they need some of what these big corporations can dish out.

I was woke up Monday by the barking at 5:55am and this morning it began really loud at 5:30am. I have been told to keep my tv on all night and not to listen to them. This burns me up!!!!! I have a 74-year-old husband that has medical issues, and I have 2 old dogs that are dying with cancer. I need to be able to hear my family call me if they need me. One of my dogs with lymphoma is getting really sick and I have to let her out sometimes in the middle of the night. My dogs may have to be put to sleep soon to end their suffering. And I will never let anyone put dogs off on me again! I have tried to be responsible by them but its just too hard dealing with vets and vet bills. And having to keep them inside because of the fear the monster pit bulls next door will get out and attack them.

I recently read an article that blamed having dogs spayed and neutered too early can cause health problems. Jake was neutered at 6 months, but the vet insisted Jessi be spayed at 3 months. This article said that their hormones are needed for good health and growth and fixing them too early disrupts their normal hormone pattern. Basset Hounds have been bred to be deformed...it is ridiculous trying to manuever these dogs around when they are not shaped right and they are incredibly messy. I have voiced my opinion to the vet more than once on the breeding of these dogs. My son drank the koolaid and paid $250 each for dogs that are so difficult to deal with and have so many health issues. They are sweet dogs and I have enjoyed them a lot, but the pain and suffering they endure and the hardship on me to care for them outweighs the need to produce animals like this.

Thanks Animal Uncontrol, Your Quiet Neighbor, and Farmer Jane...and others. I listen to everything all of you say. If helps to have someone say it to you the way Farmer Jane says it. I'm listening and I'm thinking. Thanks to you all.

"They moved in in Sept 2009 with 4 pits. One hung itself trying to climb out of the kennel during a storm. We went to court in Nov 2011. The judge ordered the dogs off the property in Dec 2011. By Feb. 2012 we thought they were all gone. But they kept a puppy - #5 - very large white female. She is their breeding bitch and I believe #6 and #7 are from one of her litters. The barking began escalating in 2015. I need advise from a really good lawyer!!!

I see a couple of things here: The dogs were ordered off the property, but they kept one of the dogs anyway? Violation of court order.

On a higher level, these people have clearly demonstrated that they are unable to keep their pets in a humane, socially responsible manner. They and their ilk must have their pet privileges revoked in entirety. Without such a policy in place, we are forced to endure the same problems from the same people, over and over again. With that said, these characters should have been forced to give up pet ownership completely, not merely give up the dogs currently owned.
