ELKO NV - A NEIGHBOR'S PIT BULL TYPE DOG GOT LOOSE AND BEGAN CHARGING TOWARD 3 SMALL CHILDREN - HEROES - ONE NEIGHBOR INTERVENED QUICKLY AND WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED AND ANOTHER CAME WITH A GUN!!!!!

An Elko man was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon while protecting children from a vicious dog, according to Elko police.
Three children were outside around 4:30 p.m. when a neighbor’s dog got loose and went to attack them, Elko Police Lt. Ty Trouten said.
A neighbor intervened and was bitten by the dog, which was described as a PIT BULL OR ENGLISH BULLDOG.
Another neighbor came on the scene and shot the dog, killing it.
The children — a 2-year-old, a 4-year-old and a child in a stroller – were not injured.
The injured man was bleeding when police arrived and was taken to the hospital via ambulance.
“He was pretty seriously chewed up,” Trouten said.
The dog’s owner was apparently not home at the time, and the dog’s body was taken for testing. Trouten said the owner believed the animal had been vaccinated but he did not have records.
The owner could face criminal charges of having a vicious dog running at large, Trouten said. He did not provide the identities of any of the people involved in the incident.
