Neighbors are disputing after an alleged dog fight ended with a pit bull dead as a result of over 20 stab wounds.
“A necropsy was performed on the dog...it was determined that the dog had been stabbed 21 times. The dog died as a result of the stab wounds,” said Warren County Deputy Sheriff, Sgt. James Darr.
This happened mid April, when the Warren County Sheriff was called to the 100 block of Whippoorwill road in Front Royal for a dog fight between a German shepherd and a pit bull.
"I've had issues with those people in the past. I'm devastated. It's like losing one of my children. Semi was such a friendly dog" said Rocky Faircloth.
Officials say Rodney Woodward was accused of stabbing the pit bull. He's now being charged with animal cruelty.
“Now we're getting charges on us for animal cruelty, and I don't see how we've done anything wrong to where the dog was on our property, and we were trying to protect our dog, and of course my son's in the middle of the two dogs,” said Rodney Woodward’s father, Roger.
The suspect's father, Roger Woodward says he was there during the ordeal and gave WHAG his account.
“As I was approaching my car...from the back my son hollers "dad watch your back." when I turned and looked around the pit-bull was coming out of the yard, across my driveway. As it approached me I grabbed it, and pushed it back, and all it wanted to do was go around me. As it went around me I followed its leash and grabbed it, and by that time it's in my yard tangled up with the German shepherd and my son,” said Roger Woodward.
Both owners tell WHAG they are disputing this in court. Officials say Rodney Woodward is set to appear in court in September for the animal cruelty charges he's facing.
