MARION, MCDOWELL COUNTY NC - AN AMERICAN BULLDOG ATTACKED A 2-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN A FRIEND'S KITCHEN BITING HER FACE - STITCHES IN HER EYE, NOSE AND MOUTH AND SHE LOST HER FRONT TEETH

A small child was bitten by a dog and underwent emergency plastic surgery Monday.

According to a report from the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was 2-year-old Alissa Gilliam, of Marion. The report states that Alissa and her mother, Sandra Gilliam, were visiting a friend, Beth Sherlin, at her residence on Hilltop Drive.

“The two-year-old was in the kitchen area of the residence when Sherlin’s canine, an AMERICAN BULLDOG, bit the child in the face causing severe lacerations to the child’s nose and jaw area,” the report stated.

The dog is 4-and-a-half years old, according to the sheriff’s office.

EMS arrived on the scene and transported the child to Mission Trauma Center in Asheville. The child underwent emergency plastic surgery, according to a Facebook post by her mother on Tuesday. She has been released from the hospital.

“Alissa has stitches under eye, on her nose, but her mouth caught the worst of the attack. She lost her 2 front top teeth but so VERY THANKFUL she didn’t lose an eye! 2 plastic surgeons hands were guided by the Lord to restore the beauty HE created,” the public post reads.

“Please continue to pray for a quick recovery. Thanks again for all the love and support you all have shown in our time of need, may God bless you all!”

The report stated that the dog has been quarantined. It is not clear what prompted the animal to attack. No charges will be filed against the owner.
