LAKE WORTH, PALM BEACH COUNTY FL - A PIT BULL MIX BROKE THROUGH A SCREENED-IN PATIO AND ATTACKED 2 WOMEN

A dog attacked two women Friday morning in Lake Worth, according to Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control.

It happened in the 500 block of South B Street.
The husband of one of the woman who was bitten says his wife, 60-year-old Marie Deemers, had a chunk of her ankle and lower leg ripped off by the dog.  They live next door.
"The pitbull destroyed the leg," said Marie's husband, Gustavo Gutierrez. "I think a lot of time in the hospital now."
Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control says the other victim was bitten in the upper calf.
Officials say the victims are the landlord, who lives next door, and the landlord's friend who also lives next door. They were at the home where the animal lived to check on a faulty smoke alarm. The owner had the dog on a screened in patio, but he broke through the screen and attacked both victims.
Neighbor Mike Doty ran outside when he heard screams. “It was scary. I was wondering where the dog was... there was blood on sidewalk there and I’m an old man and I don't need to get bit by a dog."
Animal Care and Control says the owner has voluntarily surrendered the dog named Simba and he is being put down and will be tested for rabies.
The agency says since 2013 there have been 3 calls for service to the home about the dog. All were minor and involved the dog’s owners.
The dog is a LAB/PIT BULL MIX named Simba, according to Animal Care and Control.
