MERSEYSIDE ENGLAND - PAULA NIXON, 63, WHO HAS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS, WAS OUT WITH FAMILY AND HER SHIH TZU "IZZY" ON CROSBY BEACH WHEN A LOOSE PIT BULL TYPE DOG ATTACKED IZZY - THEN IT BIT HER AND ITS OWNER
A disabled woman tried to drag herself off hermobility scooterto save her petShih Tzuas it was savaged by a Pit Bull-type dog.
Paula Nixon's beloved pet, Izzy, suffered a number of bite wounds as the other dog twice attacked her, shaking her 'like a rag doll,' during the incident on Crosby Beach, Merseyside.
She was only freed after the three men with the other dog dragged it away and pinned it down.
Paula, 63, who suffers with Multiple Sclerosis, was out with her sister Lorraine Bartlett, 60, and 21-year-old niece Jenny.
They had been enjoying a walk with Izzy, just after 3pm on Monday afternoon.
Jenny told the Sunday ECHO: "The dog came out of nowhere and just grabbed Izzy and started ragging her around like a rag doll.
"Izzy was screaming and making noises I've never heard before - it was horrible.
"The beast-like dog looked possessed, it was so scary."My aunty was trying to drag herself out of her mobility scooter and was shouting for the dog to get off Izzy - but it was no good."
Jenny says the attacking dog, believed to be called Molly, was a sand-coloured Pit Bull-type and was with three men and a woman.
She added: "Eventually, Izzy who was covered in blood, managed to run between my legs. The dog pounced again and as it went for her it bit me on the leg."
Jenny says the female with the group of males was also attacked by their dog.
Eventually, Izzy was freed from the out of control dog when the men managed to grab and pin the bigger dog down.
Jenny says the injured and upset female stayed with them but the three unknown males left the scene with the other dog.
A spokesman said: "Officers are now making enquiries to trace and speak with the owner of the other dog."
