NATIONAL PIT BULL VICTIM AWARENESS DAY - OCTOBER 24, 2015 - SEARCH AND RESCUE DOG ROCKY WAS A VICTIM OF 4 PIT BULLS

Rocky and his sister had been with their owner since they were 4 weeks old.  They had a nice back yard with a 6-foot wooden fence.  Rocky was a natural at search and rescue so he was trained and during Hurricane Katrina his owner took him to New Orleans to help search for victims.   When he was 7 years old - December 2010- a neighbor's 4 pit bulls broke through their fence and attacked Rocky.  Their dog walker found him soon after and he was severely injured. He was bitten all over and had to be on a ventilator because his lungs were punctured.  His back leg was so mangled it had to be amputated.  He was hospitalized at UC Davis Vets where he was provided urgent state-of-the-art medical care for 3 weeks.  His vet bill reached $35,000.
