NATIONAL PIT BULL VICTIM AWARENESS DAY - OCTOBER 24, 2015 - "GRACIE" A LAB/PUDELPOINTER CROSS HAD UNDERGONE VIGOROUS TRAINING TO BE A THERAPY DOG - IN AUGUST 2011 SHE WAS ATTACKED BY AN OLD ENGLISH BULLDOGGE

On August 14, 2011 , Gary Daugela was home alone with the family dog GRACIE.  Gracie has undergone vigorous  training to work with society's most sensitive people by the PET THERAPY SOCIETY OF NORTHERN ALBERTA.  Daugela and Gracie were taking a break near his garage on his property when he heard the neighbor directly across the road yelling.  He then realized that 2 dogs were charging down his driveway toward he and Gracie.  One dog was CHESTER, an Old English Bulldog, and another dog that was visiting the Peters across the way. He threw up his hand and stood tall and tried to detour the attacking dogs but they knocked him down backwards on the gravel road. The other dog named DUK DUK  bit his ankle and CHESTER BIT HIS SCALP.

Then their attention diverted to Gracie giving Daugela time to escape. The owner, Connie Peters, had come running after the dogs.  She physically pulled and hit them and yelled commands for them to cease the attack. Finally both Gracie and Daugela were able to reach the safety of their home and --- THE EXTENT OF THEIR INJURIES WERE REALIZED !!!

UNABLE TO MAKE IT TO A CHAIR, DAUGELA COLLAPSED ON THE FLOOR---GRACIE SUFFERED OVER 70 WOUNDS ON VARIOUS PARTS OF HER BODY AND FIVE OF THOSE WOUNDS WERE CONSIDERED BY HER VETERINARIANS TO BE LIFE-THREATENING!!!  GRACIE HAS HAD SEVERAL SURGERIES AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERIES. THEY WERE  ADVISED THAT ---THE WOUNDS ON GRACIE INDICATE SHE ATTEMPTED TO BE SUBMISSIVE SO AS TO AVOID THE ATTACK !!!

The Peters 2-year-old Bulldog, Chester was labeled  "VICIOUS" and they must follow very strict guidelines including muzzling their animal when off of their property.  The Peters appealed the vicious dog decision  and hired a natural dog behaviour assessment and training for Chester in recent months.....AND..........ACCORDING TO THE PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOURALIST, CHESTER'S BEHAVIOUR AS A VICIOUS DOG IS---

                               ***A TEMPORARY CONDITION****

THE COUNCIL UNANIMOUSLY VOTED TO UPHOLD THE VICIOUS DOG LABEL ON CHESTER !!!!!

Pit bulls are therapy dogs! You see, after a pit bull brutally attacks a service animal, those that witnessed the attack will need therapy.
