PARK FOREST IL - 2 PIT BULLS ATTACKED A DOG THAT WAS IN ITS FRONT YARD WITH ITS OWNER - A PASSERBY IN A CAR PULLED UP AND HONKED AND YELLED CAUSING THE PITS TO FLEE

An officer responded to the 200 block of Mantua Street to investigate a report of a dog bite on October 1.  Upon arrival, the officer spoke with a man who said that he was standing in the front yard of his residence with his dog when he saw  TWO PIT BULLS  running Southeast down Mantua Street toward his residence.

The man said he didn't have enough time to protect his dog before the two pit bulls started to attack it. One pit bull was described as gray and white, the other was light tan and white. The pit bulls pulled the man's dog into the street and continue to bite the dog.

A vehicle pulled up next to the dogs and started to honk its horn and a male subject in the vehicle started yelling at the dogs. The pit bulls were scared by the sound of the horn and fled the area, according to police. The driver of the vehicle said that he was in the area when he saw the dogs fighting so he drove towards them and started to honk his horn until they stopped.

The dog that was attacked was taken to an animal hospital. The officer observed puncture wounds to the dog's rear legs as well as one to the right side of the chest area. Police are investigating.
