COTTAGE GROVE OR - A DOG SAID TO POSSIBLY BE A HUSKY MIX ATTACKED AN 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL CAUSING INJURIES TO HER ARM REQUIRING SURGERY - HERO - A NEIGHBOR RAN TO HER AID HITTING THE DOG OFF HER

Cottage Grove Police is thanking a woman for helping to rescue an 11-year-old girl being attacked by a dog.
The attack happened Wednesday afternoon on the 1500 block of Samuel Drive. Christine Andrews was at home on her day off when she heard a scream. She ran outside and saw a large dog, possibly a HUSKY MIX, that was latched to her neighbor's arm.
Andrews says she didn't even think, her motherly instincts kicked in and she ran up and hit the dog on the nose.
"I just really didn't think about myself or care about myself. I just really wanted that dog away from that little girl and that's all my focus point was and that's all that mattered,” Andrews said.
Police say the girl attacked by the dog is home safe tonight, after having surgery on her arm.
Another resident helped police track down the dog's owner.
The owner was cited for a vicious dog.
The dog is in quarantine at its home.
Andrews says after she stopped the dog attack, she waited with the girl on her front porch, until emergency crews arrived. She says the girl was brave through the entire incident.
