JOHN MATTHEW DAVIS
His body was found in the driveway of the dogs' owner, Bentley Collins on November 3, 2006. Authorities charged Collins with one count of involuntary manslaughter and three counts of keeping unconfined, dangerous animals. Collins was convicted on all charges on January 30, 2009 and sentenced to 5 years. The conviction was overturned, apparently because the jurors were shown pictures of John’s body during trial which affected their emotions and he was let out of prison. The mother wasn’t informed by state or county officials and found out while watching the news. She was completely devastated all over again. In 2014, the Supreme Court of South Carolina reversed the appeals court decision, reinstating the conviction of Bentley Collins.
