NATIONAL PIT BULL VICTIM AWARENESS - MIKE ROCHA GOMEZ, WORLD WAR II VET, WAS 86-YEARS-OLD WHEN HE WAS ATTACKED BY A NEIGHBOR'S 2 DOGS AND DIED ON THIS DAY TEN YEARS AGO FROM THE INJURIES RECEIVED IN THAT ATTACK

MIKE ROCHA GOMEZ

On the morning of October 14, 2005 he left his house for a walk or jog. A mile-and-a-half from his home he was attacked by his neighbor’s two loose dogs. Gomez died of his injuries on November 3. Animal control officials said the two dogs had no record of prior problems, but an incident report showed the animals were suspected of killing a German shepherd-mix 11 days before Gomez was attacked. Gomez's wife, Carmen, later filed a civil lawsuit against the dog owners, Annette Gutierrez and Trinidad Campana, for wrongful death and general negligence.
