PHENIX City (AP) — A Phenix City man, who had extensive injuries to the head and neck areas when his body was found, apparently was mauled to death by a pit bulldog that was later shot and killed by a deputy.
Authorities said a Russell County sheriff's deputy discovered Richard Adams' body Wednesday morning at an auto repair shop on Highway 165. Relatives said it's possible that Adams died of a heart attack because he complained about chest pains last week.
The body was sent to a state forensic lab in Montgomery to determine the exact cause of death.
