KATHERINE ATKINS

Kernersville NC - The male and female pit bulls were housed in a fenced-in area behind the home. When deputies arrived on scene November 4, 2014, they found Katherine lying dead in the backyard near the dogs' outdoor enclosure and the dogs were running loose in the area. She had been around the pit bulls since they were puppies and there was "no history of problems or aggression.”  Her boyfriend of 5 years surrendered the dogs to be euthanized. The sheriff's office called the young woman's death a "terrible tragedy" and did not file criminal charges.
