The ASPCA is so concerned with getting rid of pit bulls, they'll tell any lie they need to make that happen. If they can say the pit bull has been temperament tested, and the pit bull can behave long enough at the shelter, they can adopt out said pit bull. Erase any negative history, rehabilitate, throw a tutu on it and find it a forever home. Most of the pit bulls should be dirt napped, since it's "All in how you raise them." The dirt nap only happens after a "tragic freak accident."
