(Tucson News Now) - A Tucson Police Department officer shot and killed a pit bull Tuesday after the officer was bitten.

The officer responded to a call of  THREE LARGE PIT BULLS  wandering around Elm Street and 9th Avenue in midtown just after noon, according to TPD spokesman Officer Dan Lucas.

The officer was bitten by one of the dogs. When the dog attempted to bite him again, he shot the dog, killing it.
The officer suffered minor injuries
It is unknown whether the other two dogs were captured by animal control or not.

Because a service weapon was fired, investigators will be on scene for a while to investigate.
