TWO PIT BULLS are in quarantine after an attack in Boonsboro that left two children injured and one dog dead.
Bedford County deputies responded to a call reporting that a black pit bull had attacked another dog in Boonsboro.
While responding to the first call at Boonsboro Place, dispatchers received a second call claiming a black pit bull and a white pit bull bit two children.
The two children who were bitten told deputies that they watched their dog interact with two other dogs and thought they were just playing. As the children approached, the other two dogs bit them, according to police. The children were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital's Emergency Room and treated for injuries.
Deputies found the children's dog lying in mud and still breathing. The dog was transported to a nearby animal hospital, but later passed away from injuries sustained during the attack. The two pit bulls matching the children's description was found on Macon Loop Road.
Deputies contained the dogs and contacted their owner, John Maddox. The dogs are being quarantined at Bedford County Animal Shelter. The children have been released from the hospital.
Maddox has been charged with with two counts of owning dangerous dogs.
He will appear in court in March.
