GREEN VALLEY, PIMA COUNTY AZ - A PIT BULL GOT OUT OF A GATE THAT WAS NOT LATCHED SECURELY AND BEGAN ATTACKING A SMALL DOG BEING WALKED BY ITS OWNER

A dog attacked two people and another dog in Green Valley on Sunday after it escaped from a backyard as its owner took out the trash.
The incident occurred about 6:15 p.m. in the 200 block of West Calle Frambuesa, according to the Green Valley Fire District.
A 58-year-old woman was taken to a Tucson hospital with non-life threatening injuries; a 76-year-old man declined care.
The owner closed the gate but the latch failed to secure, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department. The dog, a PIT BULL, attacked a small dog being walked by its owner. The two owners tried to separate the dogs, both sustaining hand injuries. The owner of the small dog was transported to Banner University Medical Center. The owner of the pit bull dog declined to be transported.
Pima Animal Care Center took custody of the pit bull; a county spokesman on Monday was checking on the animal's fate. The smaller dog was taken to The Animal League of Green Valley for assessment.
