RICHLANDS, ONSLOW COUNTY NC - A NEIGHBOR'S PIT BULL ATTACKED A 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL WHEN SHE STOPPED BY TO PICK UP A FRIEND TO WALK TO THE BUS STOP

(WITN) - A neighbor's dog will be euthanized after authorities say it attacked a 10 year old girl earlier this week.  Nadja Sullivan received more than 20 stitches in her face and has a bandage on her upper chest after her neighbor's dog bit her.

Bianca Sullivan says it happened on Cadenza Lane in Richlands Tuesday morning when her daughter went next door to her friend's house so the two could walk together to the bus stop. The 2-year-old TERRIER/PIT BULL MIX  is under a 10-day quarantine for rabies observation.
David Cotton, interim Onslow County animal services director, says the owner surrendered the dog which will be put down after the quarantine. He said no charges have been filed against the owner.
The child was treated at Onslow Memorial Hospital and her mom says she may need surgery because of how deep the wound is.
While grateful her daughter is okay, Sullivan is upset that the neighbors didn't call 911 and she learned of the attack only after her daughter ended up at the hospital.
