(WKBN) – The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office has ruled that a baby that died in Youngstown early Sunday died after being bit in the head by a dog.

Mahoning County Deputy Coroner Joseph Ohr said that the newborn's death was an accident and not an attack, as the dog was trying to pick up the child.  The baby, whose name was Aiden died at a house on Valorie Drive on the south side of Youngstown.

According to Ohr, the Mahoning County Dog Warden’s office said that the dog that accidentally killed the child uses its mouth a lot.

Aiden’s mom, Kristy Grim, talked to WKBN Monday, saying that she was sleeping on a couch near the baby, who was lying in a makeshift crib.

Grim says she is now being blamed and threatened on social media for her son’s death.

“Everybody’s trying to get me arrested for what’s happened,” she said. “I never neglected my child. I took care of him. I held him all the time and everything.”

The Grims say the dog that bit Aiden was a mixed breed and wasn’t vicious. The Mahoning County Dog Warden took the dog into custody, where it will stay for at least 10 days.

THERE IS LOTS OF DRAMA SURROUNDING THIS INFANT'S DEATH AS BITS AND PIECES OF INFORMATION TRINKLE OUT:  HERE IS A GOFUNDMEPAGE:

Youngstown detectives and the coroners office are investigating the death of a 3-day-old infant. The child's mother says the baby was bitten by a family dog.  It happened at a home on Valerie Street. The baby boy, named Aiden, was spending his first day at home.

HIS MOTHER KRISTY GRIM SAYS THEY WERE BOTH SLEEPING IN THE LIVING ROOM. THE BABY WAS ON A BLANKET ......

                            IN A PLASTIC LAUNDRY BASKET.

"I was laying here next to him; he was on the floor in his bed. I woke up and he was screaming and he was covered in blood," Grim said.

She says they called 911 and requested an ambulance.

"While we were waiting for the ambulance we were trying to clean him up and stop the bleeding," said Grim.

The 21-year old mother says she saw bite marks on the child's head and she knew the dog had bitten the baby. Grim says the dog was never a violent dog and was actually protective of  the infant.

"He was never aggressive before; he never did anything like that. We don't think he meant to do it but we don't really know," Grim said.

The grandmother was also in the house and says the infant was breathing and responsive when she picked him up.

"He was breathing; we keep checking him because we thought he quit breathing but he would take a breath," Patricia Grim said.

When the ambulance crew arrived they said the child was dead. The dog, described as MIX-BREED SHEPHERD  weighing around 50 pounds is  being held in isolation at the county dog pound. It's fate is not known. Police say detectives are awaiting a ruling on the child's death by the county coroner.

"From there, the facts will be taken to the prosecutors office and there will be a determination whether there will be charges or not," said Lt. Doug Bobovnyik of the Youngstown detective division.

Grim says she didn't do anything and hopes there won't be any charges.

"I was so happy to have him, and I lost him in three days," Grim said.

I don't even know what to say anymore. Babies should not be killed by dogs. Defenseless, innocent, harmless, human babies should live longer than 3 days after birth. Come on America, is this what we are to accept as normal?

I know I'm jumping the gun, the pit bull "mix" hasn't been identified yet. I'm willing to bet it was a pit bull.

The poor baby, may he rest in peace.

Who the hell would want that many large dogs (or even medium sized dogs) in their house at once? Even without a newborn to worry about it would sound crazy to me. I just don't get it.

RIP little one... what a waste of life.

She had deactivated her Facebook page, then opened it up again then shut it down. I left it open and am able to see what was up.

She has mentioned she is afraid she is going to get arrested. In another post she said it was her brothers dog. Then she also laments that perhaps a family member said she had made suicide videos in the past.

She also said the dog was "wagging its tail around the baby" and "was guarding him from everyone to protect him".

That right there should have been a warning. That is not the behavior of a normal dog.

It's not the laundry basket that bothers me so much.. and not even it being placed on the floor. Babies have thrived while sleeping in dresser drawers, boxes, and all kinds of baskets. It's all those dogs in the room with the baby on the floor. We have to wait for the investigators to do their job on this one. And we all know that "Murder by Dog" can be the "Perfect Murder". And we all know that Mental Illness comes in many forms and people with a mental illness do not, for the most part, get the treatment they need. That being said, where were "ALL" the dogs when this "bite to the head" happened? How did they identify the one that bit the infant? The other dogs could have been in the bedrooms with the Grandmother and the Uncle. Was there blood on the one dog's mouth? I hope we find out.

Notice dog in the laundry basket. In three days this young mother had no time to neglect her precious baby. But she certainly endangered him and his life was unbearably short and painful. Because she allowed a powerful dog who "uses his mouth a lot" to live with her infant. Not only should those dogs' parents have been neutered, but she too should consider being spayed. And be held accountable for child endangerment, despite the asinine reasoning of the dog warden and coroner explaining how the doggie just wanted to pick up the baby!

It's been pointed out how immature this 21-year-old appeared on her facebook. I got to view it for about 20 min. before it closed and I agree. But there was an adult woman there and this young mother had just got out of the hospital the day before...this was her first night alone with this newborn and there she was in that house full of dogs and she put that tiny baby in a basket the dogs had been in. It looks like maybe that one dog claimed that basket as his own...DOG TEETH GOING THROUGH THE SKULL OF A BABY IS NOT PLAYING AND NOT MOVING IT AROUND. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASY ENOUGH FOR THE DOG TO HAVE KNOCKED THAT BASKET OVER AND ROLLED THE BABY OUT AND NOT RESORTED TO BITING ITS HEAD. This all just feels so nasty, so uncivilized, I wish I could wipe it out of my mind.
