A  90-POUND PIT BULL  has been impounded by Norwalk Police Animal Control officers after a Tuesday afternoon attack on two small dogs who were being walked by their owner.
Police said that the owner of two Cocker Spaniels was walking her leashed dogs on Crown Avenue near Avenue A at approximately 3:30 p.m., when, without warning or provocation, the reportedly unleashed and unattended pit bull ran over to the dogs and vicously attacked them.
The pit bull grabbed the dogs in its mouth, shook them furiously, and threw them to the ground, police said.
Police said that the Cocker Spaniels suffered substantial lacerations to their neck, back, chest, and throat areas.
The two Spaniels were brought to a local veterinary hospital, where police said that the estimated cost of veterinary care would be in excess of $7,000.
The dogs’ owner was not bitten by the pit bull, but suffered minor injuries in a fall during the reported attack. She declined medical attention at the scene and told officers that she would seek medical treatment later.
Police are investigating the incident and said that the owner of the pit bull will be charged.
