WESTBURY, NASSAU COUNTY NY - 2 PIT BULLS WERE ALLOWED TO RUN LOOSE DOWN A STREET AND ATTACKED A 9-YEAR-OLD BOY WALKING HOME FROM SCHOOL

Cesar Cuellar, 27, of East Meadow, and Anthony

WESTBURY - Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced the arrest of two brothers on charges related to a January dog attack of a boy in Westbury.
Cesar Cuellar, 27, of East Meadow, and Anthony Villalta, 19, of Westbury, surrendered themselves today and were arraigned on charges of reckless assault, negligent assault and reckless endangerment.
On Jan. 27, a 9-year-old boy was walking home from school with his brother when TWO PIT BULLS  named Rocky and Tori ran down Wilson Avenue without leashes and allegedly attacked the victim.
According to officials, the victim and his brother tried for several minutes to beat the dogs off when two Good Samaritans came and helped to get the dogs off of the victim and put him in a vehicle until emergency services arrived.
The dogs ran away from the scene before the police arrived, but were found later at a nearby house where a neighbor had corralled them into his backyard.
Officials say the boy suffered deep lacerations to his left leg, extensive muscle damage, tissue damage, bone exposure and blood loss. The victim also suffered bite wounds on his right leg and left arm.  The older brother was unharmed.
Both Cuellar and Villalta were released on their own recognizance and are due back in court on April 21. If convicted of the top charge, the men face up to two to seven years in prison.
