DADE CITY FL - A NEIGHBOR'S PIT BULL 'SOMEHOW' BROKE FREE FROM ITS YARD AND BEE-LINED AN 11-YEAR-OLD BOY PLAYING WITH FRIENDS - "HE WAS COMING SO FAST JEREMIAH COULDN'T EVEN GO ANYWHERE"

LOOK'S LIKE A PIT TO ME!

A 11-year-old is on the mend after being attacked by his neighbor's dog.
The attack was so severe, the young man ended up taking a ride to the emergency room.
"He just started jumping on me and biting me," Jeremiah Morrell said.

"He was coming so fast Jerimiah couldn't even go anywhere," said Stephon Billingsly, Jeremiah's cousin who witness to the attack.
Morrell is still wearing bandages on his arms, legs and neck. He, his cousin and a few friends were outside playing Sunday on Center Street in Dade City when his neighbor's dog broke loose from its yard. The dog went straight for Jeremiah.

"I thought he was going to die cause I didn't know if the dog had rabies or not," Billingsly said.

The owner was able to pull the dog off but not before it left its mark.

"He was just standing up there covered in blood. He was scared. He was hysterical," said Jackie Freeman, the boy's grandmother.

Jeremiah was rushed to the hospital, where he received more than a dozen stitches. The dog was surrendered by the owner to county officials and now sits in quarantine at Pasco Animal Control awaiting its fate.

The owners of the dog are now on the hook for a $500 citation. They've also apologized to the boy and his parents.

Pasco County officials say the dog will most likely be euthanized.

I'm borrowing this from the Paris, Illinois attack. Wonderful advice from animal control...

"Gross at the Animal Shelter offered advice for folks who find themselves confronted by a strange and aggressive animal.
'It’s important not to panic or show fear,' said Gross. 'Try to be emotionless. Don’t run. Try to distract the dog with an object.'
'Most of the time, the first thing you think is, ‘I’ll fight back,’ but that will just make the dog bite you more,' she added. 'The most important thing is to get to a location to protect yourself. If you kick at the dog, you’re showing aggression, so it will want to bite back.'”

claps

Thank you Andrea Gross, director of the Edgar County Animal Shelter, for your terrible advice! It doesn't exactly help in this situation, does it?

When you're confronted by an attacking pit bull, make sure not to show emotion, Andrea. Don't fight back, just lay there like you're dead. You will be in 10 minutes anyway. I mean, we don't want to antagonize pit bulls. We all need to walk on eggshells around them so we don't "trigger" them. We only have ourselves to blame if they do attack. IT'S NOT LIKE PIT BULLS ATTACK UNPROVOKED.
