A 10-year-old boy who was bitten by a GERMAN SHEPHERD Saturday on Hammond Avenue suffered 61 stitches to his leg, according to Richland County Dog Warden Dave Jordan.
Jordan said Thursday the boy was visiting with friends next door to the dog's property. He was walking in a shared driveway when the dog's owner opened the door to let the dog outside and the dog attacked the boy.
Jordan said the dog's owner has been charged with unreasonable control of a dog. The dog had no license and was deemed "dangerous," Jordan said. The dog is being quarantined at the dog owner's home.
Jordan said it was surprising the other two kids were not attacked. He said the dog owner's boyfriend pulled the dog off the boy. "This could've been prevented if the dog owner would confine the dog," he said.
Jordan said March has been a bad month for dog bites with four people seriously injured from dog bites." One of the four dogs was a pit bull and the other dogs were mixed breed," he said.
