NASHVILLE TN - A BROWN HUSKY MIX ATTACKED A MINIATURE SCHNAUZER "LUNA" AT TWO RIVERS DOG PARK AND ALSO INJURED HER PREGNANT OWNER WHEN SHE CAME TO HER PET'S AID
A pregnant woman says a dog attacked her and her miniature schnauzer while at Two Rivers Dog park Saturday evening.
Soon to be parents, Josh and Carrie Gibson say their 10-pound, one-year-old dog Luna loves the park and loves all dogs of all sizes.
Carrie Gibson said A BROWN HUSKY MIX approached Luna, bit her rib cage, and shook her violently.
"Luna rolled over to submit, which is what she does to bigger dogs all the time," Gibson said.
Gibson tried to use her hands to separate the dogs. That's when another mom-to-be pulled the husky off of Gibson and her pet.
"I think I have a lot of maternal hormones right now," Gibson said. "I didn't think about it. The other pregnant lady managed to start pulling the dog off and then she started shouting."
Luna spent Saturday night at a veterinary hospital. The puppy is expected to survive. The owner of the aggressive dog left the park and left the Gibsons with nearly $2,000 in pet and personal medical bills.
"Some of the money we saved for the [baby] delivery and some of the fees that will incur for just having a baby are now helping our dogs vet bills," Josh Gibson said.
If the aggressive dog's vaccination records are not recovered, 36-week pregnant Carrie Gibson will be forced to get rabies shots.
"It was really scary," Carrie Gibson said. "We won't be going back but I hope that other people can and it can be safe for them."
The couple filed a police report. The Gibsons say their primary concerns are keeping other dogs safe, learning about the husky's vaccination records and being reimbursed for medical bills.
