Update (May 10, 2016): The woman’s cause of death was determined to be a heart attack. According to Brownsburg PD, “Dog attack is considered a mitigating circumstance but not the cause of death. We don’t know which came first.”

A longtime animal rescue advocate died early Monday after being attacked by two of her own dogs, police said.
Lola Endres was found dead in her dining room shortly after midnight by her son, who thought his mother had been mauled to death by Endres' English bulldogs, Brownsburg police said.

Brownsburg woman killed by family dogs
Endres, 61, suffered multiple dog bites, police said, but investigators do not believe the attack led to her death. An autopsy was conducted Monday night, and investigators are considering the possibility that the attack was a contributing factor in Endres' death.
Brownsburg police officers were called to Endres' home in the 3200 block of North Hendricks County Road 800 East, in Brownsburg, about shortly after midnight after her son found her unresponsive in her dining room. She had been bitten all over her body, police said, and the two English bulldogs, who are alleged to have attacked her, were in the throes of a "vicious fight" when officers arrived.
"Bull," whom Endres had rescued only two weeks earlier, is suspected of being the aggressor in the attack, Brownsburg Police Department Capt. Jennifer Pyatt-Barrett told IndyStar.
Before coming to live with Endres, "Bull" had been accused of biting his previous owner, police said. The other dog, "Tomahawk," had lived with Endres for three years, and investigators are trying to determine whether any of the bite marks on her body came from him.
If the bites on Endres' body are found to be from both dogs, they will be euthanized, police said. For now, they have been quarantined at the Hendricks County Animal Care and Control shelter.
TWO OTHER DOGS WERE IN ENDRES' HOME AT THE TIME OF THE ATTACK, BUT THEY WERE CAGED, POLICE SAID.

A 61-year-old Brownsburg woman was found dead Monday morning after apparently being attacked by her dogs.
Brownsburg police were called to the home of 61-year-old Lola Endres around midnight Monday after her son found her lying in a pool of blood.
Emergency responders arrived and pronounced Endres dead at the scene.
Police said it appears at least one, if not both, of Endres' ENGLISH BULLDOGS  had attacked her prior to her death. Investigators said she suffered the most severe injuries to her legs.
Endres also had a medical condition with her heart that could have contributed to her death.
Police said one of the bulldogs had been with the family for three years. The other was a rescue animal with a history of biting people who'd only been with Endres for two weeks.
An autopsy was scheduled for Monday evening to determine Endres' cause of death.
Both dogs were being quarantined at the Hendricks County Animal Shelter.
The attack was at least the third high-profile incident involving dogs in Indiana this year.
In March, a 6-year-old was mauled by a pit bull on the northwest side of Indianapolis. A 7-year-old Johnson County boy was also hospitalized earlier this year following at attack by two Rottweilers at his babysitter's house.
