CHATSWORTH GA - A NEIGHBOR'S PIT BULL ATTACKED A 77-YEAR-OLD MAN, REX RAY PEEK, WHILE HE WAS STANDING ON A DECK - RIPPING OFF PARTS OF HIS FACE AND NOSE AND BREAKING HIS BACK AS HE FELL OFF THE DECK!!!
A 77-year-old Murray County man is in the ICU at Erlanger Hospital after the Murray County Animal Shelter says a dog attacked him on Saturday.
The shelter says the unidentified man was on the front deck of a neighbor's house on Lakeview Drive in Chatsworth. The shelter says the neighbor's dog jumped the man, and ripped off parts of his face and nose.
During the attack, the man reportedly fell off the porch and broke his back.
While family members identify the dog as a PIT BULL BREED, NewsChannel 9 has not independently confirmed the breed with Animal Shelter officials.
The dog has since been picked up by the Murray County Animal Shelter and was housed from Saturday to Monday. The animal shelter holds animals for a 10 day period to keep them quarantined to check for rabies.
However, the shelter does allow home quarantine in certain situations like holidays or when the dog has special medicine or dietary needs.
In this case, the shelter says the dog was picked up on Monday in order to continue the rabies quarantine at home. The dog, however, is back in the shelter to continue quarantine.
Once the 10 days of quarantine are up the dog will undergo an evaluation to see if it is fit to return home.
