The deputy noticed the body of a small dog near the attack scene, dead from an apparent attack, and the family confirmed it belonged to the victim.
Two other BCSO deputies arrived to assist the victim and the dog jumped the fence and aggressively advanced upon them. The deputies fired upon the dog to protect themselves and the victim. The dog died at the scene.
EMS transported the victim to a local hospital with serious injuries for emergency surgery.
