A police report was turned over to Oakland County Animal Control for investigation after an 8-year-old boy and his mother were both bitten by a large dog in Highland Township.
According to a report, the boy and his father, 37, were outside their home Saturday in the 5500 block of Jada Drive when the BULLMASTIFF charged into the family’s yard and bit the boy on the back of the leg, drawing blood and fatty tissue, then bit him on the other leg as the boy ran toward his father.
The father told deputies he grabbed the boy, kicked the dog in the head and carried his son into the back of his truck as the dog continued to pursue.
The dog then charged the boy’s mother, biting her in the back of the thigh, after she saw it run through her yard and went out to warn her husband.
The couple told deputies a neighbor appeared, grabbed the dog by the collar and told them the animal was current on its shots and would no longer be staying with her. She later told deputies the animal ran off when she was attempting to hook it to a leash, and that it belonged to her son who wanted her to keep the dog since she’d recently moved into the home and was living alone.
Both mother and son – who received several stitches – were treated at the hospital and released. The police report said Oakland County Animal Control would be keeping the dog under quarantine.
