OMG! I was just going to scroll through, and the picture is horrific!

I HATE PIT BULLS! I DON'T WANT MY FACE RIPPED OFF! THIS IS CRAZY!

You mean this WAS for real??? I saw this about a month and a half ago on Liveleak and the consensus at that point was that it probably wasn't authentic. I took some comfort from that. What a nightmare!

Why wouldn't it be real, besides people don't want it to be real? Pit's frequently "deglove" their victims.

Yes, I realize that. Other viewers had their own problems with the video, but here are a few questions it raised for me:
Why is the woman never named? They know where she lived, apparently. Why is there no pre-attack photo of her? Why is there no blood on her clothing? She should be covered with it. Is it even remotely credible that she would be capable of sitting there like that with her whole face ripped off? I think not. Why are her eyeballs perfectly intact, even as the entire rest of the face, including eyelids, is destroyed. Why is there absolutely no record of this incident from any reputable Uruguayan media outlet? Subrayado is not considered a reliable news source, according to my research. And so on…

Unbelievably horrific! The media sterilizes the reality of Pitbull attacks. So often the victims' bodies are destroyed.
I think this surgeon puts it best: https://youtu.be/YoBZN2tLvWQ

O.K. Folks...Anonymous 8:54 - I saw this Video on liveleak for the first time 4 or 5 months ago on the one and only facebook group I am part of that deals with pit bulls and vicious dog attacks. There was no story with it and others were questioning it. It appeared again 2 days ago and there was an article and video to go with it. Several people in the facebook group were commenting on it saying it was believable now. I shared it on facebook and did this repost of it this time.....I JUST WENT BACK TO REREAD ALL THE COMMENTS ON FACEBOOK AND IT HAS BEEN DELETED....IT AIN'T THERE NO MORE! SOOOO I AM GOING TO REMOVE THE VIDEO AND LEAVE THE LINK WITH A QUESTION ABOUT THIS INCIDENT IN URUGUAY.MAYBE SOMETHING WILL COME UP LATER TO TELL IF THIS IS A HOAX OR NOT. But is it possible for a pit bull to deglove an entire head and face of a human like it was portrayed in this video?

I'm mistaken, it was in April that I first saw this video on facebook. I just watched it again and I paused it and replayed it again and again and I do see blood and/or tissue on her shoulders. The more I watch it, the more it looks real. A name is mentioned on the other video but I believe it is the name of the owner of the pit bull and not the victim, but they do give her age. I have seen pit bulls pull on tires for hours and hang pulling on something for long periods of time, eat bumpers off cars, crush a 5 year old's ribs and face bones and bite their teeth out of their jaw bone, break both arms on one man and break leg bones, and tug and pull over and over until there were no arms and legs left. Yeah, I think a pit bull could grab a good grip on a head of hair and sink its teeth in a pull and tug until it ripped forward over the forehead and eyes....BUT THIS VIDEO COULD BE A HOAX!

I'm not saying it isn't authentic, just that I have reservations and they're not minor. The lack of corroboration from a single other source troubles me. I'll keep looking and let you know if I find anything.

One of the reputable publications I checked was El Páis, a major Montevideo daily, whose archives I scoured. They ran a story July 5 about a pit bull attack the previous week that devastated a pediatrician’s nose, cheekbone and ear when she made a house call to attend a little boy in the El Pinar neighbourhood, so I think we can safely assume they would have covered a more serious attack.

I’m far from fluent in Spanish, but it reads like a classic pibble attack, with no warning, after it “somehow” got off its chain. The more I read, the more awful it sounds. The woman said the dog was chewing on her face. She was, by pure luck, wearing a neoprene bomber jacket that provided some protection at the neck, or it could have ended even worse. The report also mentions that she used her medical knowledge to limit the “hemorrhaging,” so we can safely assume a horrific amount of blood from a complete degloving of the face.

The comments – all 193 of them – look fascinating, with people lamenting how difficult it is to get any traction on this as a public safety issue, and wistfully pointing to the fact that some countries have banned the dogs completely. I find it very hard to believe the questionable April 19 incident would not be mentioned by someone in the comments if it actually happened, so I’m going to plough through these. If anyone else cares to read, the story is here:

Further to that July 5 story, several commenters noted three serious attacks just in the previous week, but absolutely nothing about the alleged April 19 attack. I would have expected El Páis itself to refer to it in reporting this attack.

There was little sympathy for pit lovers in the comments. Owners come in for heavy criticism, and there’s broad support for an outright ban. There were a few idiots spewing the usual pap, but surprisingly few, and they were adroitly shot down by well-informed commenters. Someone posted a link to that video where pit owners marched in Saltillo, Mexico with their maulers against “bias and discrimination,” only to have it end in embarrassment when two pits got into a fight, completely undermining their message. (Good times!)

Everyone will draw their own conclusions, but mine is that the video is not authentic. El Páis ran a long piece on the pit bull controversy on July 10, titled “When the pet is a danger,” that mentions a number of cases in recent years, but never references April 19.
