COCKBURN, PERTH WESTERN AU - A POLICEMAN IS RECOVERING AFTER HAVING PART OF HIS NOSE BITTEN OFF BY A DOG WHILE MAKING AN ARREST

The detective and his partner were on patrol in Yangebup early Sunday morning, when they came across a bin on fire at the Lakelands Shopping Centre.
Police say two teenage boys were seen running to a nearby house, and the officers followed.
It’s there, police allege one of the boys pushed the officer in the chest.
During a scuffle on the ground, a pet STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER from the home latched onto the officer’s face.
The detective first class constable was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital where he underwent four hours of plastic surgery to re-attach and reconstruct part of his nose.
The 17-year old boy has been charged with assault a police officer and obstruct police and is due in court at a later date.
The City of Cockburn says it is investigating the dog attack with a view to prosecuting the owner of the dog.
