Two adults and a child were injured Saturday when they were attacked by several dogs that were running loose.
The Jasper County Sheriff's Office received reports around 9:30 a.m. requesting medical assistance in the 14000 block of Fame Avenue in western Jasper County.
When officials arrived, they found a man and a boy had been injured by dogs.
Sheriff's Office dispatchers said they received an additional call of a woman who had been set upon by dogs.
The preliminary investigation showed that the woman was walking several dogs near Fame Avenue when several dogs from another residence attacked her dogs.
A man who owns the dogs attempted to intervene and separate the dogs as did the woman. Both were injured in the process.
Another resident heard the incident and helped get the woman to safety. The boy received minor injuries when they attempted to restrain the dogs, though he did not suffer any animal bites.
The adults both suffered dog bites and other injuries, which were described as serious.
All three patients were transported to Des Moines area hospitals for treatment.
Two dogs died as a result of injuries from other dogs. A third dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment. Four dogs were taken into custody for quarantine by the Jasper County Animal Rescue League.
The Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
Charges are possible pending the outcome of the investigation.
