A Cleveland Police officer was forced to shoot and kill a dog described as "vicious" early Friday morning, according to Cleveland Police.
CPD spokesman Evie West says the incident happened just before 12:30 a.m. at a home at 280 Gaut Street.
Someone called 911 saying a dog had bitten two people at the residence. West says officers who arrived on the scene to see two dogs running around the area.
West says "the dog approached the officer in an aggressive manner forcing the officer to retreat back to his vehicle."
Shortly thereafter, West says the officers spotted two men running out of the home screaming for help, and that one of them was being chased by a PIT BULL.
That man jumped on top of a car down the street, trying to get away from the dog; however, he fell off the car and continued to be bitten by the dog.
West says the officer approached the man and dog and fired one shot into the dog, which forced the dog to release its grip.
West says the officer fired a second shot, killing the dog.
The man then climbed on top of the car where he stayed until treated by EMS.
There's no word on whether anyone will face charges.
The Dixie Day Spay Facebook page says the dog who was shot & killed left behind a litter of two-week-old puppies who are now in need of urgent care.
