A homeless man trying to hitchhike from Stamford to Maine told police he was frustrated that no one would pick him up as he stood on Route 1 close to Darien.
Maybe it was the pit bull he had with him that deterred drivers. When police stopped to question Jonah Cook, 21, of Stamford, as he stood near the on ramp to Interstate 95 near Exit 9 Tuesday evening he told them he was trying to hitchhike to Maine but was angry no one stopped to pick him up.
Police could smell what they believed to be marijuana and during a search of his pack, they discovered what they believed to be heroin residue on a spoon. As well, they noted he had the letters LSD tattooed on one of his hands.
He was charged with third-degree trespassing, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and soliciting rides in vehicles.
His pit bull was taken by Animal Control, police said.
