CHICAGO IL - A PIT BULL "SOMEHOW" RAN LOOSE AND FATALLY MAULED AN 8-YEAR-OLD YORKIE "OLIVER" BEING WALKED BY ITS OWNER IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD
(CBS) — A dog was killed and a women was bitten Sunday by an unleashed dog in West Ridge, and little action was taken.
Ashley Dombrow said her Yorkie, Oliver, was the light of her life. Dombrow told CBS 2 her 8-year-old Yorkie was killed by an unleashed PIT BULL this past Sunday, and she was bitten. She said the pit bull remains at home with the owner. And she is wondering why the city has not done more.
Dombrow took Oliver for a walk on Sunday afternoon in their West Ridge neighborhood. While on their walk, the neighbor’s unleashed pit bull attacked 8-pound Oliver.
Dombrow tried lifting him up by the collar, but Oliver fell through.
“The dog just started ripping him apart,” Dombrow said. “I had my hands, trying to pry the dog’s mouth open. And it was locked.”
Finally she pried Oliver free and ran.
“I looked at him, and he didn’t make a noise,” Dombrow said. “His intestines were coming out of his body and I was trying to put them back in.”
Oliver died. Dombrow was bitten on the hands.
She said she made a report to police and to 311, but Animal Care and Control had no record of her name or that a dog had bitten a human.
She said her neighbor was ticketed for not having his dog on a leash and for not vaccinating the dog.
But Dombrow said that’s not enough.
“Where are the police? Where’s animal control? Where are the people we pay our taxes to?” Donbrow asked.
